  3. Carnival Legend
We took the very same cruise in 2003 aboard the Carnival Magic. The Legend is a similar ship with different decorations. The knock on Carnival always seems to be focused on cleanliness, food etc. We found the ship to be very clean, crew was always walking around and cleaning, removed used dishes promptly, buffet areas looked clean and appealing. All the public areas seemed well maintained, even the elevators and restrooms. Purell stations located throughout the ship. Breakfast buffet(s) had healthy options, lo fat yogurt, fresh fruit etc. to go along with the heavier foods and MTO omelet station We found the lunch/dinner buffets to be O.K. but nothing special. IMO the best buffets were Bob's Burgers and the made to order sandwich buffet. There seems to be a universal lack of seasoning on most of the foods. This, no doubt, to appear to more people. On our next cruise we will take some spices from home. The dinner entrees in the restaurant (we always choose your time dining), with the exceptions of the cold soups, were disappointing. The mains courses were the usual fish, beef, pork, pasta choices. I chose the grilled salmon nearly every night because we were in Alaska after all. It was nice to see some "diet" desserts both in the restaurant and in the "Sweet Spot" on the Lido deck. All the desserts were good. Entertainment was excellent, four separate shows performed by 8 very energetic young people. As for the comedy shows, one of the comedians, John DiCosta was VERY, VERY funny in the PG show. After multiple cruises we know to skip the "adult" comedy as we are not interested in a steady diet of profanity and references to body parts and sex acts. Embarkation and debarkation were the smoothest in our cruising history. Ports were nice with perfect weather. We opted for an excursion, Family Rainforest Adventure in Ketchikan), a big mistake, Overpriced with very little value. AVOID this excursion at all costs. We neither gamble nor drink much alcohol so I can't speak to that other than to say the mixed drinks are $9.50 so that will add up fast if you choose them. Above all pace yourself on the food. The average cruiser gains a pound a day. WE were careful and did not. Have fun.
