Cruise Ship Celebrity X Reflection. In summary a wonderful cruise. We would recommend Celebrity to anyone looking for a good value all round cruise. On the positive side - amazing ship with incredible staff and facilities. Food and drink were excellent. Room for improvement - keep kids in control (especially at pool side), Expensive overpriced extras e.g. trips are twice the price compared to local tours. Entertainment in the theatre was average. IN DETAIL: We booked our cruise early securing our classic drinks package with cabin including balcony. As we were on the lowest deck (deck 6) our sea view was partially interrupted as the life boats were below our balcony. As it was my first cruise I didn’t know what to expect. We booked during school holidays which I wouldn’t do again! I knew there would be some kids on board, but we weren’t expecting 650. The main issues were that the children took over both of the outdoor pools (the deep and shallow one). There is an adults only area, but it’s in the Atrium which is under glass and air conditioned. At times the kids seemed to be running riot around the ship (even on late evening events planned for the adults) e.g. silent disco for the over 18s. SERVICE: Service throughout the ship was outstanding, everything was immaculate and clean. We found all of the staff pleasant and always available to help. DINING: Restaurants were very good with both quality and variety of food and drink. We dined at two speciality restaurants, Muranos and Tuscan Grill. Both were fantastic and worth the extra payment. Book early to avoid disappointment. ENTERTAINMENT: Evening Entertainment was in general very average in the theatre. More costumed singing / dancing shows are needed. The theatre itself was very impressive with excellent seating and a great bar service. Other entertainment like the live bands around the ship were excellent. BARS / DRINKS: The bars throughout the ship are very good. Favourites being 1) The Martini bar with its plush seating area and fun staff showing off their cocktail making skills - superb! 2) Sunset bar with fantastic outlook from the aft of the ship, great seating and live music at Sail away time. The drinks package is a must. If you are happy drinking the run of the mill wines and beers then the classic package is ideal. For $14 a day extra the premium package allows you to drink more expensive drinks. We paid extra when we wanted that more expensive beer or cocktail. Our bill came to just $40. Our improvement suggestions for the management to consider: 1) Toast maker self service - to queue for a slice of toast, muffin or Bagel is ridiculous. 2) Fried eggs on buffet (MacDonalds concept for high volume food). 3) Towel system with cards max two per person / day. People have no shame and use huge amounts of towels in a day. 4) Napkins only one per person. Have just knives and forks available for people to pick up if they need a second set. 5) Dispensing machines for bottled water and drinks using your touch card. 6) Platform to enable a swim in the sea when ship is at anchor. Edge has a new innovative platform that goes up and down on the side of the ship. A real USP would be such an innovation to allow people to swim in the sea. 7) Water sports from the ship - it would be easy to lower in sports boats, sailing dingy or canoes to be used off the same platform. 8) Swimming pools - one dedicated pool for playing splashing kids. One for adults only outdoor and the third as you have it in the atrium. The pool attendants need whistles to keep control. Sign says no diving, running etc. The kids totally ignored the rules and were constantly jumping / diving in splashing the adults trying to chill by the pool.

On Celebrity Reflection. My first cruise ever.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Gaudi Walking Tour
    1) Spanish Tours
    Barcelona
Our guide was Helena who kicked off the tour full of energy and enthusiasm.
We had a very luxurious air conditioned mini bus for approx 20 with just 11 guests.
The tours included a viewing of some of the Gaudi buildings around the city, a visit to Sagrada Familia and finally a walk around Güell Park. The whole tour was four hours long.
I especially liked the way Helena guided us to the perfect photo opportunity and helped to get that perfect shot. We stopped for a view of Sagrada Familia and walked some way to a small park for some lovely photos. We then set off around the cathedral to get great views from all sides. Our final visit was to park Güell. Entrance tickets were organised as a part of the tour which was very convenient. Be aware that the tours involves quite a lot of walking in the heat / sunshine. Take a hat and if you have trouble with mobility the tour could prove difficult. Please inform Spanish tours accordingly.
All in all, an excellent tour, great value for money. It’s a very good way to see the sights in a short time.

  • Gibraltar
Top class restaurant at the Top of the Rock - Mons Caipe Suite
We walked from our cruise ship to the top of the Gibraltar Rock. We could see in Trip Advisor that there was a very nice restaurant at the top of the cable car so we went in for a beer. The staff and management were very welcoming so we decided to book a table for lunch.
We had a table by the window with spectacular views of Gibraltar and the surrounding area including the port and our cruise ship :-)
The menu was outstanding and we both chose the langoustine dishes (one salad and one pasta). Excellent food, very reasonably priced.
Thanks again to the staff for the free ticket for the cable car down.
    Would highly recommend a visit.

  • Alhambra Palace and Gardens
    Alhambra
Our day started early with a coach journey to the Alhambra from the port in Malaga (a drive of approx 2.5 hours).
Even though we were three smaller groups we were all transported on an air conditioned coach together.
The journey was broken up by a short stop at a very good services.
Our guide Rafael was very knowledgeable and told us all about the highlights as we passed through the beautiful countryside.
On arrival at the Alhambra we were split into our groups. The tickets were all organised for us which is essential as you cannot buy tickets in the day.
Our tour guide Danny spoke wonderful English. He equipped us all with headsets and then guided us through the Alhambra. The tour was informative and interesting. An excellent day out and great value for money compared to the same tour being offered by the cruise companies.
Before heading back to Port we stopped of in the town of Granada for a quick lunch (not included in the tour).
All in all an excellent tour, we would recommend Spanish Day Tours.
