She wanted to see Venice. I wanted to see the Greek Isles. Perfect!
The ship has been recently updated. I think the thing I noticed the most was the change in the layout of the Garden Cafe. It's smaller, doesn't go all the way around and is more efficient.
The excursion descriptions lie. There were hundreds of steps when they said about 50. There were miles long walks when they said a mile or so. The crowds at Santorini were insane. Kotor was ok. Corfu was ok. Our favorite excursion turned out to be Mykenos. They've gotten much better at getting the tours off the ship quickly.
This cabin was perfect for us. It lined up with the direction of the ship so the beds rolled side to side instead of head to toe. There was fairly strong engine noise but that just turned into white noise after a while. We found it to be full of storage space and the new tv was a bonus.
Venice is Very Crowded, and there are hundreds of bridges and therefore thousands of steps. Not a good choice if you use a cane or hate being surrounded by obnoxious tour groups. We took the Hop On Hop Off boat from near our rooms directly to the cruise terminal. We bought the tickets midday before, went out to Murano and other stops, then got on the next morning and it dropped us off at the cruise terminal. (limited to one bag each per HOHO). It worked much better than hauling luggage up and down yet one more bridge.
Our ship was the first in, so we got off early and were able to walk around the Old City before it was swarmed by tour groups. We found two small farmers's type markets. Obviously we couldn't buy any of the fresh food, but it was fun to walk through. The city is fascinating and the alley ways were interesting to see.
One thing this city did well was the division of entrance and exit at the wall gate. It would have been chaos for people to be pushing both ways through a 10 ft opening. I really appreciated that. NCL did a fine job with transportation into town and back to the ship.
