First time on the Koningsdam and first transatlantic trip. This fairly new (2 years) ship is tastefully designed in a “modern” style with warm subdued colors and a relaxing feel.

The food in all venues was the best we have experienced on a HA ship. The main dining room experience overall was good delivering consistently decent food. The service can be slow at times and the dining room noisy. I think the design is poor with too many tables close together and not enough serving stations. The specialty restaurants provided a better quality experience with individually prepared plates and attentive service, although you pay extra for this. Our favorite was the Tamarind Asian restaurant. New on this ship is the elimination of self service at the Lido buffet stations. Plates are prepared and handed to you with your chosen items.

The verandah cabins are thoughtfully designed with plenty of storage space. They did seem a bit smaller than what we have experienced on other ships. The bathrooms were adequate with a sizable shower. Although the toilet was somewhat awkwardly placed, as noted in other posts, it was not a problem.
