We've been on far better cruises before, so this one didn't rate more than average. The best thing that we noticed was the excellent service both in our cabin and in the dining rooms. The destination speaker was also very good and we were impressed with the size of the bar areas. We didn't care for the way the slot machines were set up (e.g. to cash in and cash out), which were very different from the casinos in other cruise ships. We rated shore excursions down for several reasons: 1) In Phuket, one of us and two of our friends came down with gastrointestinal problems after eating at the hotel on the "Best of Phuket", which lasted for about a day and a half. 2) Often so many excursions went to the same hotels for lunch that some groups didn't get to eat lunch until as late as 3 PM. 3) On a fairly long tour in Kuala Lampur, we left the ship around 10AM and didn't get back until 4PM and there was no lunch included. 4) At tender ports, it seemed liked most tours came back at the same time, which made the tender lines quite long. 5) We had several of the very best tour guides on our ship excursions, but also some of the worst. The latter were difficult to understand, started explaining details before the group was fully assembles, and did not accompany the guests as we saw with other guides on the same tour.

Cabin Review

Interior
Cabin IC C622
Cabin attendant was outstanding. Room was generally okay, but shower was quite small. We had no hot water at the start of the cruise, but after we notified the cabin attendant, it was fixed by the ship's plumber within an hour.

Tour was fine, but guide did not stay with the group as we saw the guide with other groups.

James was the tour guide and he was outstanding--very informative and funny. He made this one of the best ship tours during this cruise. On the other hand, my spouse did the "Kuala Lumpur Highlights" and departed around 9:15PM and did not return to the ship until 4PM with no lunch or food stops. That review would have been lower than this one.

Here again, we had an outstanding tour guide in Lucky, which made this one of our two best excursions. She was witty and well spoken. We saw some fantastic sites.

There is a fairly long walk from the tender pier to the buses at this port, although some shuttle service was provided for those with difficulties. The tour was okay, but the guide left a lot to be desired. The biggest problem was that one of us and two friends came down with gastrointestinal issues shortly after eating at the excursion hotel and suffered for the next 36 hours. Besides that, there were so many groups booked on this tour that we didn't make it to the hotel restaurant until 3PM for lunch. Princess should use additional hotels or have fewer groups on this tour.

We did this as a disembarkation excursion that dropped us off as Changi Airport. We saw a few other things on this excursion, but the stop at the Botanic Gardens was the highlight.

We dis this with the daytime Hop On Hop Off bus prior to the start cruise and used the same outfit for a night tour, which included the light show at the Marina Bay Gardens. We found this a very good way to see the city.

  • Marina Bay Sands Hotel - Sky Walk
During the back-to-back transition day, we traveled from and back to the port by cab and visited the Sky Walk, which was okay. However, we first visited the Marina Bay Gardens and its Flower and Cloud Forest Domes and were greatly impressed. We can't figure why these are not on a ship excursion.
