We have been on 7 previous Princess Cruises (5 different Grand class ships) and enjoyed the time on the ship and enjoyed relaxing on various beaches. This time we decided to try a Royal class ship (Regal). We loved the larger ship (the plaza & buffet is much more spacious). We also decided to try the Enclave and paid for weekly passes to enjoy the hot tub and saunas which was great. We never felt crowded during our cruise. The only negative aspect was the service in the dining rooms. We chose anytime dining as usual. We only ate at the buffet for breakfast or lunch. Most times when we went to dinner, we had to wait: wait for beeper for a table, wait for waiter to order water, wait for bread and butter, wait to submit our order, wait for food to arrive, wait for bread and water refills. We missed several shows because we assumed we could get in and out in an hour or less. We spent over an our in the dining rooms the first couple of days. We learned to ask for our starters and appetizers to be delivered at the same time and skipped desert so we could get to the shows or other entertainment on time. We noticed several empty tables most nights and the staff looked tired and overworked. Maybe the ship was understaffed or maybe this is just the new corporate world everywhere where competition and lack of qualified staff is forcing everyone to do more with less and to try to be more efficient. Maybe the larger capacity ships don't have room for more staff?

Cabin was great. Enjoyed simple breakfast room service in the morning on balcony. Bathroom was larger than Grand class ships. However, the closet was smaller and so our luggage did not fit flat on the floor as before. Jackie, the room steward was excellent. One comment is that for all 8 Princess cruises that we have been on, we requested that the beds be set up as two twins and every time we board, the beds are still set up as one bed and we have to request that the room steward separate the beds. Why does Princess have that option when booking when it is never done? Also, we are glad that you no longer have to take your life jacket to the muster drill any more.

Port Reviews

Princess Cays

Enjoyed relaxing on the beach and the barbecue.

St. Thomas

Took water taxi to honeymoon beach on water island. Enjoyed a less crowded beach but it is not good for snorkeling.
