Choosing a short 5 day/4 night cruise to break winter blues got us booked on the NCL SKY with their "all inclusive " party boat concept to the Bahamas. WE did not seek a booze cruise but all routine glasses of wine, beers and mixed drinks were included as well fountain drinks. Even Proseco with dinner is included. But there are drawbacks.

The passengers varied from children to persons in their 90's celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. Some newlyweds settled for this cruise.

Embarkation was quite smooth with the Port of Maima porters out there welcoming us and not pushing for tips for gracious help with our checked luggage. They smiled helping some figure out how to put a luggage tag on their luggage. . WE had our documents but got diverted to do the health quesitonaire. Our handicapped friend got a wheelchair and was treated graciously through the embarkaiton process which proceeded quickly. There was no welcome onto the ship or anyone giving help. Finally we were told that the rooms would be ready at1:30Pm and we should seek lunch while waiting WE were shuffled off to the cafeteria/buffet and missed a served lunch for lack of informaiton.

Port Reviews

Miami

Getting to and from the port is not so easy as Miami traffic and ill marked routes had us lost twice. WE got miserably lost in Miami leaving as the I-95 was shut down and we were forced into alternative routes with many bad directions

Freeport

Freeport is a typical Carribbean Bahama port with vendors in small booths at the port and necessary transportation to get to town. The $10 RT taxi vans are a good option to see Freeport and Lucaya .All have been battered by hurricanes with hotels and casinos shut down by Matthew in 2016 Freeport still suffers from the 2004 hurricanes with apartment buildings and the Internaitonal Marketplace not useable. Sad and not a great scene

The beaches are not beautiful but give a sun option off the ship. Rocks were moved in after Matthew to save the beaches as breakwater.

Nassau

AS a Carribbean-Bahamas port it is clean and well managed. The vendors are regulated Taxis and carriage rides have standard fares. The shops range from T shirts and souvenirs to high end watches and jewelry We left with our souvenir charm bracelets from Diamonds Internaitonal and a pendant fromEffy . Lots loved buying Cuban cigars and Alcohol. Not our thing

Great Stirrup Cay

This small private island has a short shoreline to accomodate 2000-4000 passengers off the NCL ships Tenders are necessary to get there. WE brought our own snorkels and float boards but the water was 72 degrees and not so pleasant. Water got crowded near the life station so we walked away to the far left to find uncroded beach and water to enjoy. Shade is possible here. This island is smaller and less developed than HAL's island. The free drinks were easy to get as also an ample lunch buffet at the island. Simple "BarB Q" of hotdogs, hamburgers, salad and ribs satisfied most beach goers. Lounge chairs are free. Passengers need to bring their own towels from their cabins All water toys are for rent.
