Sail Date: Dec 2017

We have sailed NCL in the past and were on the Breakaway its first year in service. I, my wife and two 19 yearolds decided to take a Christmas cruise from 12/22-12/29 out of NYC on the Breakaway and were disappointed. One night while dining there were alarms going off followed by announcements saying "Bravo Bravo". The entire kitchen staff marched out of the restaurant. I asked the waitress what was going on and she told us that "Bravo" means there is a fire. No announcements were made directed toward the passengers and we were smelling smoke by the art gallery. Our cabin had no air conditioning the first day in warmer weather and the drain in the shower did not work so the water flooded into the bathroom. Getting off the ship for our day at Stirrup Cay was a disaster. First we had to wait for our letter to be called which finally happened at about 11:45. We were directed to the theater and had to sit there for at least 30 minutes until we headed to the tender boat. We got to Stirrup Cay about 1:00. The line for the Mexican food was huge so we decided to wait it out. When we did go back we were informed it was closed for the day (2:00). The lines at the bars were at least 15 minutes as well as for the other food offered. The entertainment in The Atrium was very amateurish. The comedians were great as was Charlie Love and his band in the blues club. The food on the buffet was subpar to say the least and the lines were very long. We also purchased the Thermal Suite passes for the week to keep us occupied while the ship was in cold weather at $200 per person. Most times we were unable to get a lounge chair because so many people purchased the Thermal Suite pass. How can they sell an amenity with the inability to provide the service? During dinner in the Manhattan Room the service was terrible and the waiter did not seem to care. He brought us out our entrees and then came back with our soups and appetizers. This was the first time we did not buy future cruise credits and highly doubt we will sail on NCL ever again.

Port Reviews

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

We went to Cocoa Beach on our own. Beware that Uber is not permitted by the port. You must walk outside the gates of the port to meet your Uber driver. The lines for excursions were very long and the line for taxis was very disorganized and very long.

Nassau

We booked our own trip to RIO resort and had a great day. We quickly grabbed a taxi by the port while everyone else waited on long lines for their excursion buses. We bought the all inclusive day pass. The food was amazing at RIO and the drinks flowed all day. There are plenty of lounge chairs on the beach and by the pools. There are all water sports available on the beach.

Great Stirrup Cay

Terrible time getting there and the lines for food and drinks were too long.
