Food quality for Norwegian way down since 2010. Food service highly irregular, excellent 10% of time, so-so 40% of time and plain terrible, slow and inefficient 50% of time with wrong or missing orders, extreme wait times. Lack of seating at most venues. Seating horribly uncomfortable almost everywhere, who designed this stuff? 1970s inspired futon in stateroom just horrible, only good as emergency bed.
Waterslides never worked. A few elevators out of commission entire trip. 4000 passengers always waiting long times for elevators. Ship layout horrible. Smoke smell 6th through 8th floor midship.
Captain communication very lacking and vague. Cannot remain on time and this ship is slower than a 40 year old barge. Missed 2 debarkation (port) days and got home late as well. Ship vibrates a LOT and doesn't handle 15+ foot waves well at all.
2nd and final Norwegian ship we try. Cabins are very small compared to the other 4 cruise lines we used. Severe lack of storage and lots of lost space. Futon type couch very uncomfortable and unusable for those with bad backs. Cabin was never spic and span either. lots of dust and streaked mirrors. Hair left on bathroom floor after every cleaning. Balcony still had the same cookie(yes, an actual cookie) and flaked off paint lying on it through the 13 day(supposed to be 14 day) cruise. Need larger closet, remove the broken fridge that is locked anyway and put shelving instead. TV entertainment almost nonexistent. 3 news channels, 1 old shows and 1 movie channel. The rest are ship infomercials and safety videos.
After 5 days at sea we just needed to get out. Shopping and nicer part of downtown is within easy walking distance. We ended up paying 20 USD for use of the casino resort's private beach right next to the ship.
Barbados always amazing weather. Beaches are a 30-45 minute walk and the path by the water is pleasant.
Have been there 3 to 4 times already. Took a private tour for 25 USD with a cabbie but it wasn't great. 4 huge cruise ships in port that day and was very hectic especially with Barbuda recently devastated by hurricanes and island overpopulated.
