We picked this cruise for the reasonable cost and a chance to see four ports in eight days. My wife, parents, and I had a great time. Embarkation was just as expected for a non-priority traveler. Check-in was smooth, but had to wait a little for our zone to be called to board. We did some research prior to our cruise and learned we were traveling on an older (updated) ship. We had an interior room on deck 6....right in the middle. We've heard of nightmare rooms so small that two people couldn't stand at the same time. Not on this ship. Our room had plenty of room to walk around and plenty of closet space. However, only one chair/stool to sit down. My parents balcony room had even more space and a small couch and table. Our room steward (Kadek) was great. We chose service twice a day. We read on other reviews that the bathrooms did not have an electrical outlet. That is false. There is one located near the ceiling above the sink area. There were so many activities going on each day, we had to plan in some breaks. Best drink deal was found in the Red Frog Pub; on port days, they offered half off deals for their fishbowl drinks. Each one equaled four tall drinks for only $11.47 (including tax and gratuities). This was the first cruise on the Sunshine for our Cruise Director (Lee). He is definitely a high energy guy and we really enjoyed him. The entertainment was top notch. We loved the Christmas special. Carnival has made it a priority to honor the veterans. There were at least 3 events in the dinning room where veterans could enjoy some desserts and talk with fellow veterans. Additionally, they provided a great Veteran show in the Liquid Lounge If it is possible, everyone should see Lee's dedication to our heroes. Recommend bringing a sweater or light jacket. The evenings on deck can be chilly. Also, the Liquid Lounge and MDR air conditioning work great. Food was great. We opted for "your time dinning" in the main dinning room. We never had to wait for a table. The only included venue we did not eat in was JiJi's....due to the long lines. The 24 hour pizzas hit the spot each time. If you want a place to relax in a quiet place, check out the Library lounge. This trip included stops in Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Kitts, and Amber Cove. We all thought San Juan was the best stop. A lot of Old San Juan is struggling with power issues. However, everyone there put out the welcome mat. We thought we would be able to use the free hop on-hop off trolleys. Unfortunately these are still not running. Thus, it was a brisk walk to the Forts and back....about 2 miles round trip. In Amber Cove, the Carnival created resort area is beautiful. We did a sightseeing/shopping excursion into Porta Plata and were kind of disappointed. We don't recommend going downtown on your own...it was pretty scary. Debarkation went pretty smooth. The only glitch was when people tried to "jump the gun" before their zones were called. We got through the process before our original scheduled time. I believe that was due to Lee's excellent instructions.

Cabin Review

Interior

Cabin 4E

Definately not a suite. However, plenty of space to move around. We chose the king-bed configuration. We had enough closet and drawer space for all of our clothing. Bathroom is small. Not sure why, but the comode is situated on an angle that forces you to have one foot in the shower. Also, the casino was directly below our room. Each night at 11:00 pm, they conducted some kind of gambling tournament which required using a loud speaker for 15-20 minutes. Not loud enough to startle you, but just enough to keep you awake.

Grand Turk

Magaritaville bar and pool was fun. Strong drinks for a reasonable price.
