We booked at the last minute on the Freedom (literally, the night before sailing) because our cruise out of San Juan to the USVI got cancelled (hurricane Maria). As a result, we were in a first deck (Riviera) inside small cabin (1206). We ALWAYS get a balcony room. Never, ever again will I stay interior. The room steward (Pandeh) was wonderful, but you can only clean a room so much. I believe the boat was having a plumbing issue b/c our bathroom was RANK. I saw them with wet vacs and carpet cleaners down the hall. The sewer smell was disgusting. It would wax and wane but never went away.

That said, the boat was otherwise spotless, the food was as you would expect (pretty good), and the crew were a delight, as always. Matey, the cruise director, was cheerful and approachable, and the bingo master, "Mr Dobber", was entertaining and had an infectious laugh.

We got completely rained out in Cayman, and excursion cut short in Jamaica for a downpour, but that's not Carnival's fault. We did the Fury snorkel/sail in Cozumel which was a HOOT. Overall, it was a "good" vacation. Would recommend!

IF the bathroom had been good, I would rate it as average. It's small but not cramped, has a little fridge and ample closet space. Our experience with the bathroom just ruined it. There was a sewer smell around the toilet the entire time. Every time you lifted the toilet lid, it would waft up. We believe it was coming from the small drain hole outside the shower. Just gross.
