Having taken seven previous cruises in the Mediterranean, Caribbean,TransAtlantic, and Hawaii, we were looking for an opportunity to take our first Alaskan cruise. This September 17th, Roundtrip Seattle Cruise was still available for a 6 week prior booking. Our stern, balcony cabin choice was available, so that sealed the deal for us. Since we live in Hawaii, it was a tolerable flight to Seattle and back. It helped that they were offering on board credit and paid gratuities as well.

We enjoyed the itinerary, particularly cruising Hubbard Glacier. Not sure why we stopped in Victoria for 5-1/2 hours at 6pm. Guessing it was an international requirement.

We had never been on this ship before, but were on the Eurodam--which we found similar. The Oosterdam looked a bit dated, but overall, was in descent condition and very clean. Our room steward did a nice job taking care of the room.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Cabin VB

We found our cabin to be very tight compared to other stern balcony cabins we had sailed in. It was nice to have the sitting area and love seat, but you had to navigate around the bed to get to it, which was a bit of a squeeze between bed and wall to do so. Although the storage was more than adequate and the bathroom large enough. The balcony was a little bigger than non-stern balconies, but was much smaller than we were used to on a other ships.

Port Reviews

Ketchikan

Had a short time here in port. Just walked around through all of the jewelry shops. None of the excursions looked interesting nor worth the cost.

Juneau

Took the Glacier Express shuttle to Mendenhall Glacier and hiked and photographed for a few hours. Did not have time for the tram since they said it was a 45 minute wait to come back down from Mt. Roberts.

Victoria

Pulled in around 6pm. Too late to really do much, other than walk through the city and get a coffee.
