Atrium on Norwegian Escape

This was not our original Eastern Caribbean itinerary as planned to depart on 9th September 17 as this was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. We were already in Miami from the UK and to begin with were devastated when they contacted us to tell us our cruise was cancelled. On learning we were in Miami however and needed to get to safety we were offered the chance to join an 'evacuation cruise to nowhere' other than to remain safe. As we had to evacuate Miami by this point we decided this was the best decision, safety being top priority and all flights were full and car hires taken. Made our way to the port with some anxiety but were reassured when we saw others in the same situation, particularly some crew coming on with their families. Embarkation took a while as had to be carried out manually but did get sorted. When we set sail everything was smooth and we remained ahead of Irma. Arriving at Cozumel was a bonus as we ended up with 3 days there so could get off the ship and go ashore and the resort has very much improved since our last visit a few years ago. Many other ships had also docked there for safety but it never felt crowded. Cruise was great, fantastic food in all dining areas, spotlessly clean and well maintained, good variety of entertainment, in spite of being apparently fairly full, it never felt busy. Staff were all so pleasant and helpful.NCL did a great job keeping passengers and crew safe and I understand they are helping assist the islands which have been devastated and aiding with further stranded passengers - well done NCL. We have also been advised they are giving full refunds for our cancelled cruise and 50% towards future which is a huge bonus on top of having already kept us so safe. Look forward to returning soon.

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BE

Our Stateroom was not original one booked owing to all the disruption with the hurricane and evacuating some passengers but was very close by. Our room steward Carlton was great and made us so welcome. On our anniversary he surprised us by decorating our room and giving us champagne! Room was always really clean - well done Carlton.

Port Reviews

Cozumel

Good duty free shopping at the port but plenty of shops for the cost of a short taxi ride into Cozumel where its much cheaper and much more variety. Lots of local restaurants. Water activies and excursions and ferry to Playa del Carmen. Very very hot when we visited so mainly did shops and restaurants as too hot to stay on beaches for long. Very cheap for taxis and fixed price to centre from port of $8
