My travel partner and me at San Lucía

This was my 11th cruise. I chose this cruise not for the itinerary but because I wanted to experience the Celebrity cruise line. I have experienced several other cruise lines and had heard that Celebrity was a particularly luxurious cruise line. I was very excited when I found a nice deal so I booked it as soon as I saw it. Unfortunately I was unhappy with my experience. Getting on and off was efficient; I have no complaints about that. The cabin steward was great! The ship itself is very beautiful. The dining was excellent 99% of the time. The service in the dining areas was consistently good. The specialty restaurants had excellent food and service with beautiful ambience. The entertainment was inconsistent. Some of the acts were really good and others were rather hum drum. The lectures were excellent. The glass blowing experience was very interesting and entertaining. The pools were rather small and there doesn't seem to be a way to keep people from reserving the deck chairs even though there are signs everywhere not to do that. We had to change ports a couple of times because the captain was navigating away from hurricane Irma. He did a wonderful job of keeping us safe and was able to take us to ports that had good weather. I will definitely cruise again but I would hesitate to use Celebrity because of incidents where I felt there was a culture of "bait and switch". We purchased the "hop on hop off" tour of Miami upon disembarkation because our flight was very late in the day and we didn't want to sit at the airport for 12 hours. Right before we started the tour we were informed that it was going to be cut in half and there were no hop off stops. We paid $69 each and were never informed that the tour had changed. Also, while in another port they had a deal for a massage and I booked it, but right before the masseuse began she informed me that if I wanted a certain amount of pressure I had to pay extra. And their internet plans are not user friendly and costs are outrageous. I felt pressured to buy goods and services everywhere on the concourses of the ship. You couldn't just stroll through without being bombarded by sales people. That was stressful. There was also another stressful incident. I'm not a drinker so I have never paid attention to the norms for alcohol while on a cruise ship, but my travel partner is a drinker so we went to the liquor shop to buy a bottle of rum to drink in our room and she saw a great deal, (4 for $40). She was so excited for the value! As we chose the bottles she wanted we chatted with the sales person who was funny and charming. We asked about getting set ups for the rum we wanted to drink in our room and he advised us that the bars could help us with that. There was a sample of almond liquor being given and I liked it. There was a special on that (2 for $40) and I purchased two as gifts for folks back home. After we made our choices we gave our sea pass cards and that's when he informed my friend that she couldn't take the liquor to our room! We laughed it off at the time, but the night before our disembarkation our table mates informed us that we could only bring one bottle each into the country! The sales person knew we had greatly exceeded our ability to get the liquor off the ship and never warned us we were over buying! Unfortunately for Celebrity, there were two couples in my family who were waiting for me to give a great review of my experience so they could book with Celebrity. I am not recommending Celebrity to anyone.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Veranda 2C

Cabin 2C

My state room was nice enough, however, the lack of storage space was very annoying. It also bothers me greatly that there were no self laundry facilities available. The veranda sat above the life boats, but we had a clear view of the ocean at all times. The veranda chairs were a bit worn and one was actually threadbare.
