Eurodam Cruise Review by ElaineFerguson
- Sail Date: August 2017
- Destination: Alaska
- Cabin Type: Large Spa Ocean-View Stateroom
We chose this cruise for the scenery, so were very satisfied with going through the buffet for meals. Not only was the food delicious and varied each meal, we usually were able to sit near a window. A whale with breakfast? Check. I think our favorite meal was the roast beef. They did it perfectly. Don't miss the trout. That was pretty good, too! Breakfast offered the usual, but I thought the freshly made crepes and waffles were a special treat. Just being able to wander down the line, pick what looks interesting and eat it was a true luxury for this mom. They offered separate burger and pizza places that made to order. Both were worth a wait in line.
The highlight of the cruise for us was getting up close to the glaciers. What a thrill! How nice to have National Park Rangers join us to explain what we were seeing. On the way we saw mountain goats, bears, puffins, gulls, and sea otters. Quite an exciting day.
We also enjoyed exploring the ports. We chose city tour excursions since we had a limited time frame in each place. We especially enjoyed the guides who were native Alaskans. There was usually enough time left after the guided tour for us to then explore sites we where we wanted more time.
This cruise provided luxury, relaxation, and a wonderful way to experience a very wild place.
The cabin stewards were very attentive and our room was kept sparkling clean. We especially enjoyed the whimsical towel sculptures we found each evening. Some merited names;-))
Have to say, we weren't sure about cruising but as soon as we saw our cabin we knew we would love the experience. And we did.

Glacier BayOutstanding experience to get so close to a fading landscape of our world. National Park Rangers enriched the day.View All 374 Glacier Bay Cruise Port Reviews

City TourFirst I must emphasize, we were very satisfied with HAL's timely response to our complaint about this tour.View All 49 City Tour Reviews
We thought we were getting a city tour which did not materialize. We were taken to the fish hatchery. It was interesting. Then to the glacier, which was very cool but extremely crowded. (Wish we had shot out there first, to avoid some of the hordes). Then to a salmon BBQ, which we thought was traditional native but it turns out was run by non-natives. Food was good but not stellar. We were left there seven miles from the port with no ride back to the ship. Some mention was made of a shuttle, but there was a back-up of 100+ people being serviced by a 15 passenger van. I will say the restaurant owners were pro-active in finding us rides back and a nice bus driver from another tour company bailed some of us out. We then saw some school buses pulling up so can only assume everyone else eventually made it back.
The bottom line is that we had very limited time in Juneau and didn't want to spend it in a remote area waiting for a bus that might or might not arrive. It was alarming when we first heard our tour guide was ditching us at the BBQ and upsetting when we realized we were truly left out to dry, so after we finally got a ride, we just went directly back to the ship.
KetchikanOur guide, David, was excellent. Knowledgable and humorous. He took us to a spot to see a black bear in the wild (across a river) and several eagles. Since he was raised in Saxman Village, he was a wealth of information at that stop. Unforgettable.View All 7,299 Ketchikan Cruise Port Reviews

SeattleSparkling Seattle. It's so beautiful in the sunshine.View All 589 Seattle Cruise Port Reviews
Have to say, for a city full of engineers, the street entry to the port is quite confusing and very inefficient.
Once on the ship, all was well.

SitkaExcellent native guide who was from Sitka. She shared a wealth of information about her culture and the area. Loved seeing the bears and learning about the rehabilitation efforts. Also saw whales and eagles along the way. Learned a lot of new things about the totems at the totem park. Skimpy on Russian history, but we had time to investigate those places on our own.View All 7,299 Sitka Cruise Port Reviews
