we wanted to go to Alaska and had favorable experience with HAL in the past. How things have changed. Being in Alaska, I expected that the crab legs in the dining room would be better than "pre-cooked, frozen and then thawed and reheated". they were cold and soggy. My stateroom was very "tired" and the restroom caulking was discolored. we actually called the steward to sweep and clean the floor. We had no toilet paper or tissues. We embarked three hours late due to the need for a "deep cleaning" because of several norovirus cases on the previous cruise. This caused a mass entry into the terminal and ship and a one hour delay in leaving. Dinner reservations were mishandled. When my wife and i arrived at the dining room for breakfast or lunch, we were quickly escorted to a very undesirable table location. When i asked for a different table they looked at me like no one had ever requested that before. Lastly, men wearing baseball caps in the formal dining room on Gala night??? The bottom line is that HAL has evidently taken a very no frills approach to cruising that might be fine for many but not for those of us with higher expectations.
tired and in need of renovation. I thought that I had read that the staterooms were recently renovated, but not this one.
