30% of the food was "not" good. The first day upon arrival was pretty bad. Just picked through it. The french fries were small, tasteless and dry, even with cheese sauce. Wish they picked better quality potatoes like Steak Fries or hand cut. There was a group from Chicago making lots of noise in the fine dining area. They were so loud, classless, inconsiderate and abnoxious that people kept leaving their tables early all around them. Think they are the same people from the Wine Train. Some of the late 20s women snorted disgustingly (sucking up their bougars instead of blowing into a napkin) when you stood in the lines. Staff was astounding. Think the only grumpy one was the blond in the Steakhouse, but i read sexual harassment runs rampant on cruise lines employees so that was understandable. They place a $11.49 per day fee for tips on your bill, which I think was tacky and unexpected. Lots of diamond shops, like who goes on a cruise wanting to buy diamonds? Every time we got off the ship another cluster of diamond shops side by side. The worse food was the duck tongue appetizer (rancid, poor quality), navy bean soup, does not taste homemade and had an off color, most the desserts (over sweetened). The chocolate cake was beyond amazingly delicious for Mother's Day. The salad bar was wonderful and you can eat it even on breakfast, If you did not pay around $100 per person for excursions per day, you were either stuck on the boat or shopping diamond shops. There were other shops, not many and the walking was pretty far from the ship. You will gain weight so stick to the salads and work out. The stationary bikes got harder and harder to ride, wish it was consistent. The scenery was beautiful and magical. The whale boat excursion was okay. Not many whales and when I figured out where the whale popped up (they used military terms for location) the whale plopped back into the water. If you ever get a chance to be waited on by Eugene, he was great. Eating alone was a bit stressful but he made it quite welcoming and his friendly persona was superb. I think all the employees should be paid more than $1.50 a hour. They need a Union to protect abuse from Carnival's management and sweathouse rules.
