We selected this NCL cruise because we wanted to take our family on a fun spring trip and we had a great NCL cruise experience on the NCL Dawn a couple of years ago. We booked a suite on this cruise because we had a great suite experience on the NCL Dawn. When traveling with 2 young children, it is very helpful to have priority embarkation and disembarkation. On the prior NCL Dawn cruise, the butler and concierge also checked in with us several times per day to make sure we had everything we needed including milk and fruit for the kids, etc. On this cruise, I felt like we had to search out help and service whenever we needed anything. When we did call for service, it felt like they were burdened by our calls. I don't think we were particularly difficult. We only ordered room service once and we checked out a couple of the movies reserved for suite guests. The best service was in Cagney's for breakfast and lunch. The wait staff in Cagney's did go above and beyond. Our room steward was very nice as well. The service in the main dining rooms was disappointing - slow service and below average service.

It felt like the entire ship was understaffed. I wonder if the unlimited drinks on this ship has created this environment. They seem to have plenty of bartenders, but not enough waiters and other staff members. During our entire trip, we were never served by a waiter in a public space. We had to search out a bar each time we wanted a soda or milk for the kids or a glass of wine. Even in the theater during shows and while playing bingo, no one was there to take drink orders.

Our kids did enjoy the Splash Academy so that was a highlight. Overall, I would not suggest this ship for a family vacation. The kids pool is very sad. The culture of this ship caters to heavy drinkers, buffet-lovers and late night party animals. It is not a great cruise for folks that prefer traditional cruise amenities like excellent service, fine dining and more entertainment options.

Cabin Review

Aft-Facing Penthouse with Large Balcony

Cabin SE

Very nice cabin Steward named Mario. The cabin's living room needs a serious makeover. It feels very worn. Soot from the ship's smoke stacks caused the balcony to be dirty every day.

Easy embarkation thanks to priority boarding. I wish they had taking into consideration that we were traveling with our parents in another cabin down the hall. On prior NCL cruise, they let our family board together rather than splitting us up.
