First, I've cruised with Celebrity previously and had the perfect experience, hence, I chose them again. I wish we were informed regarding possible cultural issues. If so, we would have reassessed the trip and/or looked into another embarking port. We found the overwhelming cultural differences from the bulk of passengers from the host port had a profound impact on our experience; none good. And to exacerbate the situation, we had my wheelchair bound son who found them to be rude to him which turned into an inconvenience for us all. There was some level pushing and shoving in all lines with consistent cutting into them as well. The ice-cream station even needed to remove the containers of cookie that were intended as an optional accent to your scoop of dessert because of passengers grabbing multiple cookies for their own. If that wasn't enough, I personally received 3 unsolicited comments from crew members expressing their experiences too. In short, GREAT Cruise ship but terrible embarking port. Next time, fly into Japan to cruise around the country!
