We loved the ship and the cruise to some of the most interesting destinations we have visited. We loved the Koningsdam. Of course some of the interior design, sculptures and wall art would benefit from some interpretation. Not every light fitting or piece of art was to our taste. But hey, HAL didn't need to personally consult us prior to launching the ship. You can't please everyone. Dining . The Lido Buffet. We thought it was the best buffet we have seen on a ship and the food was quite good. We avoid the Lido as you don't dine here you feed. Getting your food to your table is like making your way through a flock of seagulls all flying in different directions. You will never be bored here. Just read the T shirts of your fellow cruisers to learn their favourite beer, car, or club. You can even read their philosophical view of life. The Main Dining Rooms. Here you dine in something at least resembling a fine dining experience. We thought the food was very good. There were a few misses but far more hits. We are amused at fellow diners who expect full 5 star dining with their steak or Risotto cooked exactly how they do it at home, and fit's not precisely right they send it back. Get real. This is not a 4 star Michelin Restaurant doing a couple of hundred meals at most. This small kitchen is pumping out thousands of meals three times a day. If you want fine dining at its best book in to one of the specialty restaurants and pay. The sad thing is that you are forced to use the Lido buffet at times as the Dining Rooms have rather short hours for breakfast and Dinner. Our cabin Verandah 7140 on deck 7 . We loved it. But my big contention is how the sheer genius of the cruise lines marketing division has convinced intelligent people that the claustrophobic shoebox of a cabin is actually a STATEROOM. We have seen staterooms in various cities and none of them are like our cabin. How pretentious. The only real problem is that ours had a connecting door to the next cabin. We could hear their conversation and they could hear ours. The bathroom has a huge shower and is wonderful. The only problem is the angle of the toilet which places your knees hard against the glass shower screen. A big guy or gal may have to ride the range side saddle. Entertainment. Generally very good with class acts . Of course not all were to our taste, but we were only one of the 2,600 people on board. You will never please everyone. If I do have one gripe it would be the lack of any cerebral activity or event. For me personally The Marriage Game, making paper aeroplanes, learning flower arrangements, or origami just doesn't do it. I certainly missed having a library. We were amused to hear cruisers griping about the light fittings in the Dining Room and every thing about the ship. The Mariners Brunch was wonderful and it was great to have the Captain attend.

You can't please everyone.
