We chose this cruise as the second half of a 13 day D1 Denali land tour through Holland America.
Fairbanks
We flew into Fairbanks a day early and stayed at the Westmark Fairbanks. Upon arrival we unknowingly bypassed the HAL desk at the airport and showed up at the hotel without our welcome packet. Christine, at the HAL tour desk, was so helpful. She issued us a temporary room key and let us go ahead and get settled in while she arranged for our packet to be shuttled to us. We enjoyed our room and our time at the Westmark. We enjoyed our meals at the Red Lantern, and our breakfast at the Northern Latitudes, both on site. We walked down to the riverside park on our extra day and enjoyed our time there.(Even though the phone system was down our last night and we failed to receive a wake up call to enjoy the Aurora Borealis.) :-(
In a word, excellent. The cabin was very spacious, with 6 total closets. There were three drawers in the desk, two in each nightstand, and two large drawers under the bed. There were numerous cabinets and even storage in each stool/ottoman. There were two sinks in the restroom, which had a spa tub/shower with a seperate shower. The vanity featured a lighted magnifying mirror as well as adequate drawer space and 3 mirrored closets. The room had a small refridgerator, a coffee/expresso maker, a safe, and a Bose docking system. The bed was very comfortable, with a selection of pillows. There was also a very large angled sofa, two chairs and a coffee table. There was a window over the desk and a walkout to the spacious balcony, which had a table with four chairs for dining as well as two comfortable chairs with ottomans for relaxing and enjoying the views. Perhaps the best part of the room was the access to the Neptune lounge, with the concierge desk, which was directly across the hall. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute in this suite.
Glacier Bay is an unforgettable experience, not to be missed.
