We chose this cruise because we wanted to do something different on the 4th of July. This cruise had many pluses - I love this ship, the cabin was spacious and near the library, the library is excellent, and the food overall was pretty good. Speaking of food, they have not changed their menu for 10 years according to our waiter who was outstanding. He said that on longer cruises they just add a few new items but it doesn't vary much. That being said they do have lobster in the main dining room unlike many restaurants that only have it in the specialty restaurants. We also spent time the Commodore Lounge where you get a good view.
QM2 is not well organized. You spend a lot of time waiting to get on board the ship. They seem like this is the first time they are doing everything, but of course, it is not. Immigration is on board before Boston and into your stay in Boston. If you want to maximize your time there, it is best to take a tour. Otherwise you will be spending lots of time in line before you can exit the ship. Because of this however, it is easier to leave the ship and the port at the end of your cruise. The purser's office is useless. We were given a gift for a specialty restaurant and they declined to let us use it. Even though it stated quite clearly on the certificate that it was a gift, they said that this was just a "suggestion" of how to spend our on board credit. We will be informing our travel agent about this. A lot of our questions were not answered to our satisfaction. Also, check your bill often and carefully.
We really enjoyed Halifax. We went on a sailing cruise which was very relaxing and enjoyable and we walked around a bit. Things were open even though it was a Sunday. Beautiful day and one that I will remember fondly. In Boston we went to Harpoon Brewery which is walkable from the pier. If you want to visit the center of the city you will have to take some sort of transportation. It was quite hot and sticky, and since we had visited Boston many times before, we decided to just chill out at the bar in Harpoon's.
The cabin was generally quite with a balcony on the starboard side. We had a good view of NYC and enough space for everything.
We went on a walk and visited the Harpoon Brewery which is close to the ship.
