This was our first river cruise but we went with friends who have gone twice already. One word....WONDERFUL! We went from Basel to Amsterdam on the Vidar. The crew was outstanding, the food delicious, and the normal tours were overall great. The cabin is small but you don't spend much time in it anyway; however it is very nice. The ship is well appointed and quiet. The hotel manager, Artur and the program director, Diane, do an excellent job of taking care of you. Our captain was learning English because he had been on the river for 30 years moving freight and did not have to deal passengers. He is very comfortable with the passengers even though he may need assistance with English. We had the honor sitting next to him at our last meal and had a very good conversation. I would love to do a Russian cruise in the future.

Meals were a delight and the staff funny and attentive. Our cabin was always kept neat even though we were only gone a short time the room would be straightened up. The only fitness area is the walking track on the upper deck.

The flight on American was typical cattle car. Do NOT go through Heathrow if you can avoid it! Making connections is horrible. If our connection to Basel had not been late we would not have made it, even though we had nearly 2 hours. My wife was on a cane with a broken ankle and we could not find a ride for her. Amsterdam departure was easy...big place, but they set up a wheel chair for her all the way to Dallas. Thank YOU!

This is the best value for the money. You have a full sliding window to open if you wish. Again, you are not in the room very much anyway.

We took the Viking routine tour and found it interesting.
