Overall I have to say I was very disappointed with the March 14 Eurodam Eastern Caribbean. There are some good points which I will note, but everything was tarnished by the unsmiling, stone faced crew members onboard. There was a real non caring attitude among a majority of the staff on this ship and it detracts from the experience. Embarkation was generally smooth at Pier 26, but once you scan your pass on the ship, there is no one to welcome you or ask if you need assistance - Wal Mart has better greeters! The room stewards were awful - absolute minimum service and there is no way to contact them if you need anything. No phone link, no pagers, not even a Please Clean Room/ Do Not Disturb sign was available - you had to search for them. Janitor service at best to be honest. The Lido Restaurant/Buffet leaves a lot to be desired - you have to line up for everything and when you get to the station you have to repeat yourselves a number of times to get what you need - then it is off to the next lineup! What a pain! And the layout is very traffic unfriendly what with the narrow corridors between the food stations and the tables. The staff only ask if you want something from the bar - if you want water/milk/coffee they just spin around and ignore you. The Crows Nest library area is very nice to hang around in and has good outside views. As we have a disabled child, we had a fair bit of room service but every time there was something missing from the order - need some quality control there. The ship still has a creaking issue that affects your sleep (4th floor forward left) - I notice previous guests have tried stuffing bits of paper in every nook and cranny but to no avail. Breakfast service and dinner service in the Rembrandt was quite good - food was tasty and there was a lot of choice. Not much to do on the ship - being a "smaller" vessel, there are limited shows and events and the quality was average - saw the comedian and the ships dancers. As I was advised beforehand, I felt young on the Eurodam (I am 48)- no big problem with that but it is the exact opposite of say the Carnival ship I was on earlier. There is a definite lack of excitement on board. Nice promenade to walk around with plenty of chairs. Cruise director "Johnny" a nice enough guy - does seem a little nervous when public speaking. But as I said before, what could have been a good cruise is certainly tarnished by the indifferent attitude displayed by the majority of the staff - most were just marking time. Disembarkation a breeze. Princess is by far the best cruise line so far - will try RCI, Celebrity and Cunard in the future to complete the sampling. Cheers.
