  3. Caribbean Princess
First of all we have 9 cruises with Carnival and was very excited about going on a b2b on Princess. So, many of our comparisons were based on our experiences with Carnival. We have always gotten a balcony cabin so booked sidexside with our Canadian friends, who have never cruised before. We are in our middle 60's. Embarkation and parking was so smooth at the Houston Bayport Terminal. Too bad they are leaving this port. Was surprised to get on the ship in a area by the elevators. No fanfare at all. Went straight to our cabin. Nice. Liked the little larger balcony and "Smith" opened the door between our cabins. We used a bungy to keep it open. Smitty was a great cabin steward. Always had a gentle smile. My biggest complaint about the cabin was the very small shower with a stationary shower head. The bathroom is smaller overall. Several mornings our toilets wouldn't flush and they had to work on them in our area. We found almost every public bathroom had stalls blocked due to maintenance and so there were always lines in the ladies room. Lots of sewer smells throughout the ship for two weeks. The beds were very comfortable with great pillows. No top sheep, just the duvet. The towels were very worn. The robes provided were thin waffle-weave cotton. To begin the cruise we had a huge disappointment. There was a letter stating due to generator problems we wouldn't be going to the Princess Cays but would stop at Freeport instead. Then a half an hour from Key West we were informed we wouldn't be stopping there due to high winds. They gave us a $100 obc for missing this port. Freeport and Nassau aren't my favorite ports. Just hit the beaches and dealt with beggars all day. This cruise was filled with a lot of older people. I can see why. The enrichment activities center around jewelry shopping, art auctions, and spa treatments. Very few fun activities. If there was a trivia game or something fun going on we had to go an hour before to get a seat. We only seen Lee the cruise director before the evening shows. The shows were pretty good. Enjoyed comedians AJ Jamal and Steve Noris. The singers and dancers were good but didn't see that much of them. There was nothing going on as far as late night comedies, etc. it was pretty boring. Nothing fun ever on the lido. No one danced, etc. We had 8:00 traditional dining in the Palm. Ernesto and Richard were excellent servers with Giovani as the Head waiter. He even cooked a couple of dishes for us! Dinner was the highlight of the day for us. Enjoyed almost everything ordered. No complaints. Breakfast in the dining room was a huge disappointment. Not much of a variety and not great service. The lido was same ole, same ole everyday. After 14 days we were so tired of it. No waffles. You have to pay for hot chocolate. They have one ice cream bar and it wasn't very good. There were always lines and waiting for a place to sit. Just couldn't find much variety on this ship for food. The iced tea and lemonade was always so watered down. One night we had a storm and there was water coming in from the balcony clear across the cabin soaking the carpet and bedding. They gave us a $50 obc. It happened in numerous cabins and we were on deck 15! Customer service was okay but they seemed to be rude to many people. A lot of the staff just ignored you and weren't too concerned about service. Quite often we saw spilled drinks and food just sit there for hours. We found a few very nice servers and enjoyed visiting with them. The second week to Cozumel, Belize and Roatan was great. We went to our favorite, Paradise Beach, on Cozumel. Hired a taxi for a tour and went to Henry Morgan's at West End in Roatan. We booked a fabulous day with cave-tubing.com in Belize. Disembarkation was okay. Lines were long but that's to be expected. No problems. Overall, we will go back to Carnival with a huge smile after this. We truly missed the fun activities, people enjoying themselves and friendly smiles from all of the staff.
