It was actually a 16 day cruise when we disembarked in Houston rather than Miami. It was economical, the food was fine and the ship seemed to be an excellent size for my wife and me. Not too big but still big enough to have several music options every night and some good shows. The Scottish singer Cochrane stood out for her ability to present herself, her Scottish heritage and the music from peoples all over with respect for herself, the music and her audience. The Ironics, Twice as Nice and Nathaniel were among our favorite musical fixtures on the ship.

A highlight for me was the fact that the Jade provided an accessible promenade deck with almost unobstructed views of the sea (Mediterranean, Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico). This encouraged me to walk off some, though not all, of the extra pounds I somehow accumulated. All four ports leading up to Houston were easy to access---Barcelona, Funchal, Charlotte Amalie and Miami--- which enhanced the brief visits. Unfortunately, Houston was another story.

Our cabin with its balcony, located on mid aft on the ninth floor, seemed to be in the perfect location between Grand Pacific and Alizar, the two main formal dining rooms, and near to the Atrium and the activities around it. It was also perfectly located for easy access by elevator to the 12th floor swimming pools (2) that seemed larger than most we've experienced at sea. The Jade was indeed a great ship upon which to spend so many days at sea, far better, in our view, than much larger Norwegian ships with reputations for being great for days at sea. Finally, the staff, particularly in the dining rooms, was outstanding. When the mostly excellent weather and seas are added, this was one of our favorite cruises yet.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

24 hours not nearly enough! We took the on and off bus all over the beautiful city.

Madeira (Funchal)

We rented a cab (a van) with two other couples and saw much of this beautiful island.

Miami

We took a two-decker tour bus with our closest friends from the ship. It was an adventure as in certain parts of the city, those of us on the open second deck were urgently told to "duck" on a number of occasions as we passed low hanging branches at what seemed to be great speed. A highlight was a visit to a cigar/coffee store.

St. Thomas

We walked around the downtown area and did a small amount of shopping before taking a cab back to the ship.
