The cruise from Budapest to Nuremburg was fantastic. We actually sailed on the Viking Tor instead of the Viking Var switching to the Var around day 5 due to river water levels. There was the inconvenience of packing up and switching ships but inconsequential in the overall scheme of things. In fact we enjoyed the bus trip through the countryside that we otherwise would not have made...especially, if you can fathom, seeing two live camels on a Bavarian hillside! The night cruise at Budapest was almost worth the entire trip, it was enchanting. The second day cruise through the hills of Hungary, the quaint villages, the castles on the hills, equally so. We regretted leaving our Viking Tor crew behind when we switched ships but Viking had the foresight to send our two favorite staff members, Tatiana and Milos, with us to the Var. They were very personable, very competent, and contributed greatly to our enjoyment of the cruise. I have no complaints at all. Having read a number of negative reviews arising from the changes made due to water levels I would suggest that folks be a bit more flexible and consider the adventure! This was my first Viking cruise having been on a number of big ship cruises previously. I very much enjoyed the intimacy of the smaller ship...one got to know the crew members by name, made friends quickly with other passengers, and felt the attention of the crew was much more personalized.
