Went on the 10-day cruise from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera on the Crown Princess. First, I read all of the reviews. Ranged from GREAT to POOR. As usual, the reality is somewhere in between. Embarkation: TERRIBLE ! Princess is supposed to have good embarkation, but we waited in line in the hot sun for over an hour moving slower than a Disneyland attraction line. The Princess staff who were supposed to be there to help passengers find their way were horrible. They were standing, talking to a few passengers, talking amongst themselves, and occasionally letting someone with a sob story cut the line. There was no information being given by them about why we were standing there sweating, and they had no supervision (or if they did were ignoring it). Ship: Once we got on the ship, things were much better. For the most part, the ship was well maintained, staff were all friendly and helpful, and the décor was quite nice, as to be expected. The Good: Cabins were quite good, cabin attendants were excellent, and there was plenty to do both while sailing and while in port. Excursions were also done well, properly organized, although a little on the expensive side. Crown Grill (steak) and Sabatini's (Italian) were both quite good, almost excellent. Service, food, and value were all in the high range. Also good were the main dinning room attendants. Debarkation was smooth, uneventful, and well organized. The Average: The Horizon buffet was very average in everything, from selection, to temperature (both of the food and in the dinning rooms) and varied significantly. Plenty of food, but the same thing every morning and afternoon. Dinner did vary a little. Buffet attendants also varied from quite good to indifferent in dealing with passengers. The main dinning room also suffered from an average menu. Most food was acceptable, but uninspired. The Poor: As I said earlier, embarkation was poor. Also poor was 3,200 people on a ship with very few elevators. That's about all I can say that was really bad. Overall, a pretty good trip, the ship's personnel did their best to accommodate our requests, and our party had a good time. However, this is the last time I travel with 3,000+ people. Will go on smaller ships in the future.

Just OK; Some Good, Some Poor

Cabin Review

Cabin
Quite good. Recommend minimum of mini-suite sized room, especially if you have claustrophobia.
