We experienced the maiden voyage of the Viking star. While each cruise you take will always be different, some have glitches, weather issues etc. the consistent thing you experience with Viking is top notch service and their attitude of giving their guests the best possible experience. In 50 days we always had a wide variety of great food with excellent service. The spa is fabulous with great service and amazing features seen no where else. We always had educational and exciting shore excursions. The ship is beautiful and beautifully designed. It has an intimate feel with unique art and a variety of seating areas for reading, relaxing and enjoying the day. I learned about the Vikings from the tiny museum and the extensive library and models in the explorers lounge.
Our cabin was very comfortable and the cabin staff was always available for anything we needed. Because of the modest size of the ship we were able to visit ports other ships must pass by and Viking gave us some special experiences like a private concert in St. Michaels Cave on Gibraltar that was a highlight of our trip.
Did things go wrong on the ship, yes, It was after all it's first voyage. However the crew faced each problem and they were overcome or worked around with amazing speed, diligence and creative solutions even the complex problems. We had a wonderful time and yes, we would do it all again.
Excellent design. Heated towel racks and radiant heat on the floor in the bath. Double sinks with excellent storage areas. A shower so good many of us tried hunting down the fixture so we could order one when we got home. Warm and comfy robes. Lots of storage in the closets and drawers and a well stocked mini bar that can be stocked with your favorite beverages and snacks. Comfortable seating area and a lovely patio with table and chairs. We had them do our laundry and everything was well cared for and well presented on it's return. Cabin cleaned twice a day and fresh water always. Heavenly!
