My wife and I sailed out of Ft Lauderdale to Cozumel back in April on Liberty of the Seas. We liked it so much that we booked a second trip for August so I could take my kids on their first cruise (they are 15 and 18).
We live in Ohio so we opted to drive to the port. Well, sort of. What we actually did was drive from Columbus OH to Hamburg PA the day prior, staying overnight, then driving the last 90 minutes or so the morning of the cruise. This went very smoothly. I had booked parking with a place called "Premier Parking", and while it seemed to be a bit "fly by night" when we arrived there, it proved to be an adequate solution. The shuttle transfer to and from the port went smoothly enough without much waiting.
We arrived at Cape Liberty port around 11:15 am, and after a relatively pain free 15 minutes in line, we were crossing the gangway and entering the ship. The cabins weren't available until 1 pm (we knew this ahead of time), so we took the kids to Windjammer to eat. We finished by 12:30 and walked around on deck 11 and 12 until 1 pm. Promptly at the aforementioned time, the doors to the cabin corridors were opened and we went to our rooms.
It was the forward most cabin on the starboard side, 10th deck. It is basically identical to the last cabin we had, which was 6314, forward most cabin on the port side, 6th deck. Just big enough for two people, clean and in reasonable shape. No blatent displays of wear and tear. Both balconies have extra room due to the fact they are the forward most cabin. I will say the 6th floor is bigger and the leading glass is uncovered which was great for sunning your self under (my wife, not me). Cabin 1230 has a smaller "extra area" and the leading glass was covered due to the fact that the bridge would otherwise be able to see directly in (my theory).
We got to the port before noon, zipped right through the check-in process and were on the ship before noon. The pick-up and drop-off areas were chaotic, but that seems to be the norm at every port I've ever been too.
Getting on and off the ship was easy and quick. The area is nice and clean, no homeless asking for money nor tons of people trying to sell you junk. Snorkel Beach does actually have a nice reef for some general snorkeling on. To do much else you'll be ferrying or riding a bus or taking a taxi for 30 minutes or more.
