April 25, 2015 First Transatlantic cruise for me!
I drove down to Ft. Lauderdale the day before the cruise and spent the night with my brother and his fiance. I arranged for a luncheon aboard the Caribbean Princess for the 3 of us prior to sailing.... so we arrived early as instructed and had to wait a bit for the concierge, but worth the wait. We were treated royally! They disembarked and I was on my way. This has been my dream to cross the Atlantic by ship having visited Europe only by air previously. This time I planned to spend a few days in London at the end of the cruise.
This was my chance to see Ireland and Scotland on my own schedule. Cobh, Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh and then two more days at sea before docking in Southampton. I arranged a trip to Stonehenge directly from the ship through Princess and I highly recommend it. I think we spent 9 days at sea and there was never a dull moment..always something to do. The highlight of my days in London was the 70th anniversary of VE DAY. What a party! Think I will visit Normandy next time.
I always choose a balcony (much more expensive because I travel solo) because I really enjoy the extra space and the view. I choose twin beds so I can lay clothes that I intend to wear the next day out on the unoccupied bed! And I never have to put my makeup things away because no one can see them! My cabin stewards have ALWAYS been helpful and polite and such hard workers.
Took local transportation to Edinburgh for the whole day. Just beautiful. What a sophisticated city.
