My husband and I cruised the Explorer of the Seas December 18-23 with stops in Coco Cay and Cozumel. Here is my brief summary of the cruise.
Embarkation:
We arrived around 12:15 and the whole process took less than 45 minutes.
We had an interior room that looked over the promenade (deck 7 across from Cafe promenade) This room is convenient to the Palace theater and Exercise room/Spa but on the opposite end from the Windjammer and dining rooms. This is the second time we have cruised in a promenade cabin, and we really love it! It is nice to be able to look out and see what is going on in the ship - as well as a good spot for watching parades should you so wish. We have never been bothered by noise from the promenade - but then again, we have been careful to avoid rooms above or across from the pubs. Also, we tend to be night owls - so most stuff is shut down by the time we go to bed. Privacy is not an issue for us - we know how to close curtains. However - our room was in dire need of updating! There were stains on the sofas, drawers that didn't work, worn/scraped/dinged furnishings and an outdated tube tv. Also, the shower could not maintain a steady temperature. It constantly cycled from tepid water to scalding hot! I know I also complained about this in the locker room - but I cannot ever remember this being a problem on any cruise in the past. Maybe this is a ship-wide problem with whatever they use to heat water. Our room attendant - Rolando - was just about the best we have ever had! He always seemed to be working - and greeted us almost every time we left or returned! Our room stayed clean and he quickly fixed any problems we encountered (see drawer above) Plus he kept our ice bucket full!
