Just returned home from our 7/29/06 to 8/5/06 cruise aboard the Pride of America. On a scale from 1 - 100 I would give it a 95. We flew in on United from Detroit, with a connecting flight in Chicago. From the time we got off the plane, it was less than an hour for the NCL staff to meet us as we got off the plane to get us on the ship. Everything was organized and made easy. We had spent time reviewing the comments and so we packed our swimsuits on our carry on luggage and was able to enjoy the pool and hot tubs while we waited for our luggage to be brought to our room. The poolside bar/cafe had hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. for us to enjoy, as we missed the Aloha Cafe's lunch that was available as you came on the ship.
The six hour time difference got to us quick and my wife, and children, ages 13 and 11, all hit the hay by about 7:30pm, and we missed the sail off.
We awoke Sunday in Hilo, and began our first excursion, which was the Coastal Hilo and Botanical Garden trip. We were interested in this trip after learning the history behind the garden, and Peter, the gentleman who carved out the trails thru the rain forest. It was a fairly easy walk, some steep areas, but golf cart assisted trips were available for those unable to walk the area. It is very pretty, and we had a great time.
