Dining at sunset on formal night. We dressed but many folks did not. We wished we didn't also (less clothes to pack!)

Independence of the Seas…a mixed bag
"I saw no one wiping down any of the handrails throughout the ship, nor did I ever see anyone applying new varnish to the moister-barren teak handrails on the outer decks…ever. The fare in the main dining room was also very, very good; lunch one day at the Chops steakhouse was absolutely fantastic...."Read More

Feeling Cuts to Pay $11 Billion Pandemic Bond Debt

Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Independence of the Seas

Cruise #6 with RCI since 2012. Cost cutting to pay the $11B in pandemic bond debt has really hurt the experience. Food quality and options have declined. Service is hit or miss, with MDR and Windjammer service noticeably worse. Nickel and Diming ($20-ing and $40-ing) for things that aren't worth paying for (e.g. $35 for the escape room, $2 to play skee ball for 30 seconds) -- even the teenagers ...

Ship was well kept for an older ship. Our balcony stateroom was clean and nice. The cabin attendant ( Virasami ) was the best we ever had. Hard working (even when not around our cabin ) attending to our every need, and anticipating our needs. Food in the main dining room was ok. Our waiter Saka was accommodating to our needs and wants. Our head waiter Hans, was a character. Nice but over ...

First Time Cruisers - Read all of the fine print

I have not taken a cruise for 20 years and so much has changed that I consider myself a first time cruiser. I went with my sister and while the staff was fantastic, I learned the hard way that you have to research everything you can think of before getting on board and you must read the fine print. On the first day we stopped by the drink package table and the line was fairly long. Since I ...

Expected better but it was "sufficient" for the price

After speaking at length to an RC agent she assured me that sailing with RC would be a great experience and wonderful value. She mentioned that RC had been awarded best in class for the last few years. I told her I sailed once before on Carnival and it was Fabulous. She said this would be even better. Wish I could say it was. I won't sail with RC again. Parking was close and convenient. ...

My best friend and I do a birthday cruise every 5 years or so, and we had been on this ship 6 years ago-pre-COVID. We were very surprised and how dated the ship was this year, needs lots of TLC. This is my ninth cruise on various cruise lines. Pros: Cabin steward was excellent and friendly. Dining room staff phenomenal. Veteran's tribute was lovely with a live band playing all the ...

We recently sailed on Independence of the Seas. We are seasoned cruisers with 25 prior sailings, but this was our first with Royal Caribbean. There were several highlights on this cruise including the fact that crew members that we encountered were friendly and helpful. The entertainment staff and headliners were very talented and fun, and one of the best things we experienced during this ...

I recently took the ship’s September 25 four night sailing from Port Canaveral to Nassau and Perfect Day at Coco Cay. Overall, I had a nice time, but there were some challenges. First the good. Without doubt, Royal Caribbean’s biggest asset is its crew. With the exception of my room attendant (more on that later), every one of the staff was courteous, accommodating and couldn’t do enough to ...

We reached Platinum status with RCL on this cruise, so we have some past experience with the line. The cabin was very dated. Our cabin steward had it nice and tidy for us, but you could tell it was well worn around the edges and at the very least needs a deep cleaning. The bed was very comfy, and the balcony had nice room, compared to our next cruise on Sky Princess, however the plexiglass ...

Cruise was okay, but food is awful. I was beyond disappointed. Nothing like pictures and videos on YouTube. Desserts were the worse. Mostly flavored pudding with whip cream or small cake. No cake slices like picture. It was a joke. The food taste was blah. Looked pretty and looked appetizing, but taste was flavorless. I think COVID has something to do with them making short ends. Not many places ...

We chose this cruise ship because we cruised same ship in mid December. Then ship went into dry dock. It certainly did not make any improvements. If anything maintenance was lacking. Service in the Main dining room was very slow. Food brought luke warm. And they cut the menu in half. Asked for a paper cup to bring 2 coffees to our room and was told that I had to get them from bar on deck ...
