Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Explorer of the Seas

We are seasoned cruisers with RCI and Celebrity, cruised once with NCL in Febuary 2014, and we use this as a benchmark for quality and VFM. Flew to NYC early to have a couple of days doing “touristy” things, walking the High Line, MOMA and a show on Broadway . On Saturday morning we took a shuttle car to Bayonne/Cape Liberty, this trip was a little hint of things to come. On emerging from the ...

We were with another couple who came to visit us first from Georgia and we flew from Florida to Newark and stayed at a local hotel. The next morning we were driven back to the airport where we connected with our Royal Caribbean shuttle to take us to the port. Getting to the ship and then onto the ship was a nightmare. It seems all we did was sit and wait, shuttle and wait. Finally, we got on ...

Totally lovely cruise! The staff was very friendly and totally focussed on great service for their customers. Scarey... no way! sure we had a little wind but really? You're in the water, water moves, therefore the boat moves... If you want no movement... stay on the couch! Dining Room: Table staff and heat waiter were fabulous and extremely accommodating. As a vegetarian, they went out of their ...

Explorer OTS repo from NJ to Port Canaveral – Nov 1 to 15, 2014 Friday, October 31, 2014 – Travel day Good morning everyone. It is 6:40am on October 31, 2014. I am through security at LAX and I am waiting for a 9:10 flight. If all goes well, in about 10 ½ hours I should be landing in Newark. So, as I listen to muffled announcements (that I think are being made in English) regarding the boarding ...

Second time on this ship, 9 years apart, this time with kids. A different experience. The Explorer is still one of favorite ships, although she is by no means the smallest, she still offers the best of both worlds- the feeling of being at sea with a range of activities available. Nice mix of passenger ages. Embrakation was a nightmare- rumor that porters were on a slow down and certainly appeared ...

The Rude Cruise

This is the 4th time my husband and I have sailed on the Explorer, and its the first time I can honestly say I was very dissapointed. We hardly saw our room attendant to ask any questions, although our room was always cleaned for us. The bartender in the casino bar (the woman) was very friendly, but we tried to ignore the tall gentlemen, as he always was grouchy. I say Rude Cruise because it was a ...

Critique of Explorer of the Seas departing Port Liberty 10/9/14 Great time until debarkation. The Captain announced that we would be an hour late as there was a maximum speed which he was not allowed to exceed. 'Tough sailing because of the weather.' I do not know the reason for the speed limit. If he went 2 nautical miles faster he would have made up the time in the apx 1,000 nautical miles ...

Explorer of the Seas from Bayonne

We just got back today from our 10 day cruise to the Eastern Carribean. Overall everyone had a great time. We traveled with our two daughters ages 21 and 25 , one of their friends, my sister in law and her son. The embarkation from Bayonne was slow but not awful. The ship was very pretty and didn't show it's age unless you were looking for things to complain about. Our staterooms were small, but ...

Hotel Information - We stayed on Staten Island at the Hampton Inn. Good staff and very affordable. They provided parking while we cruised, shuttle to and from the port, and breakfast in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful. Be aware, that the pick of the shuttle for us was 45 minutes late. Other than that, we were happy with our experience. Ship Information - Ship was in good ...

We have cruised on Explorer of the Seas out of Bayonne 3 times. It is never quick to get through the traffic but this time was ridiculous. We left our home in Rockland County NY at 11:15, breezed down to Newark and got on the road to the terminal...and sat and sat and sat in traffic. Our driver was starting to get really frustrated. What should be a ten minute trip took over and hour. The check in ...
