First Viking Cruise

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Gullveig

I chose this cruise because of my desire to visit the Christmas Markets along the Danube. My friend and I booked about two years out, in the middle of COVID to have something to look forward to as we got through those long months. I had heard wonderful things about Viking but our experience was not as wonderful as I had hoped, beginning with the airfare that we included in our reservation. ...

The staff, cleanliness, food was excellent but keep in mind a few things: - We had a room with balcony but 3 out of 8 nights another ship was blocking the view. Viking parks the ships side by side thus saving on paying docking fees but totally messing up your experience - On our itinerary we had to dock in Passau for one night but they changed plans and took us back to Austria to some small ...

Viking Fleet Growing Too Fast?

After thoroughly enjoying a Viking cruise on the Rhine a couple of years ago, my wife and I decided to cruise the Danube this year. The last half or so of the cruise was impacted by a river blockage resulting from a grounded barge. Low water level and excessive barge weight apparently played a part in the grounding. As a result, we were bused around the blockage the last 4 days of our trip so ...

Our first time river cruising

We have sailed many ocean cruises, but this was our first river cruise. We liked the idea of being able to see multiple cities in Central Europe while unpacking only once. Overall, the cruise was OK - not sure it is a great value for the price paid, but it did deliver us to some great destinations. Booking - Difficult. Viking likes to have you "call for a quote" rather than just telling you ...

Viking drops the ball -

This was our second cruise with Viking. The first was terrific. This one was very disappointing. Although we certainly understand that low water levels can sometimes happen, this was not the first time Viking had to deal with this issue - it is our understanding that this has happened periodically over the past few years. Two major issues related to this: 1. When Viking docks at port, ...

Disappointing, Expensive Cruise

This was our second Viking cruise. The first on the Rhine was lovely. And while we know that Viking cannot be responsible for the Danube running out of water, we felt like Viking was not open and honest about how they would handle this situation. We were told via website that the Danube cruise would go on as planned even though other river cruises were cancelled. It was not until we were ...

What began as a wonderful trip fell apart at the end. The ship was beautiful and the staff was efficient. The rooms were spotless with very nice amenities- lovely towels, bottled water replaced every day, great toiletries. Sightseeing-the sights along the river were incredible. Enjoyed the local guides at every port. Very informative. Appreciated the bottled water that was handed to us as ...
