We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, the destinations were mostly good apart from a change to Nauplion instead of Spetses. Mykonos was supposed to be docked instead we were taken ashore on tenders. Igoumenitsa was a waste of time nothing of note here .We had more tenders than was on itinerary which was disappointing. Training some of the staff to steer the tenders when passengers were on board was a bit worrying. The food on board was excellent in the Discoveries restaurant and lunch times in Windows. The entertainment on board was a bit disappointing and not up to the Quests. The decor in all the public rooms was tasteful and relaxing. The ship has been refurbished new carpets etc. The waiters in the restaurants were attentive and friendly. The living room was a comfortable relaxing place to be with attentive waiters and various snacks during the day. We had a balcony bedroom which had a table and chairs on the balcony. The bathroom was small and the only complaint from most travellers was the shower curtain clinging to their bodies when showering. We did not take any of the shore excursions as we felt they were very expensive and we could make our own arrangements. We had a group of Greek dancers onboard during an evening buffet who were excellent. The Azamazing evening was in Dubrovnik and Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment a rock Cellist Ana Rucnar, we had the central square cordoned off and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We chose this cruise as our wine shop was sponsoring the trip for customers. We had 46 people in our group. We were in Cabin 8052 which was right next to the elevators and stair well midship. We had our doubts as to the possible noise level for the location, but it was never a problem, we had no noise at all from the elevator and stairwell traffic. The room itself was very good with lots of storage and plenty of room to move about without any problems. The only issue is if you are not agile the tub presents a problem as it is a high step into the tub. Once in tub area to shower your head is practically touching the ceiling, I am 5'8" and clearance was about 1 inch, so if you are over 6' you will have to scrunch down. Otherwise the bathroom size is good. The Club Continent Suite comes with a stash of free liquor, Bombay Gin, Sotli Vodka, Rum, and Johnny Walker Red. The balcony was a bit tight but not an issue. I suggest that when you board, if you have a Club Continent Suite or higher the specialty dining is free, you book the specialty restaurants for every day you are on board, then cancel the day(s) you do not use on those schedule days, otherwise you are on a wait list the whole trip. The food is not spectacular on board, but very good. The surprise restaurant is the The Patio, poolside. Order a bone in sirloin steak that was as good as the steak house specialty restaurant Prime C. The menu at The Patio is very good. The best food of the entire cruise occurred on White Night when the food is superb everything from lobster, pork, steak, frog legs, calamari, etc. is available. Tons of desserts, too. Entertainment on board is good, nothing to write home about. The singers, magicians, and band are fine, good way to spend an hour relaxing on board. For dancing and drinking the Living Room is the place to be where they have a DJ and combo for entertainment. My favorite location was the Spirits bar in the Den which seems to be the gathering place on the ship most nights, cocktail lounge atmosphere with piano player. The bartenders were exceptional at the Spirits bar, but I learned they are not permanently assigned but rotated through the ship. The bartenders we had were Alex and Vlad, Alex was assigned to work the Mosaic Coffee bar and Vlad the pool bar on the next cruise, too bad as they are truly good at the bar. We booked three tours on board. We were very disappointed with 2 tours and loved the 3rd tour. This is hard to judge for future cruises as they rarely return to the same ports, but keep moving across the Mediterranean Sea and beyond. So it just could have been the locations we chose to see. Look into Viatour or local tour companies in port. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout the cruise. One nice feature is fewer passengers so embarkation and disembarkation at ports is never crowded, easy on and easy off was nice instead of waiting in long lines. The ship is small so navigating decks and going to bow to stern takes no time at all in getting around the ship. Would I do Azamara again, yes, now that I "know my way around and the tricks" The ship does not attract the younger crowd, families with children, or serious partiers so the atmosphere is laid back for people in the 50's and over age croup Read Less

We are "destination-focused" travelers, and while we have been to land trips in Europe several times, we chose this 10-nt Venice-Barcelona trip because it was going to give us an opportunity to revisit some of our favorite destinations -- Venice, Positano, Florence, the Riviera, and Barcelona. We love the size of Azamara ships -- lots of pretty places in which to relax without the overwhelming atmosphere of an "auditorium" gathering place; excellent cuisine in main dining room every evening plus the over-the-top French Chefs Table, high caliber of entertainment with variety, and well-timed shorter performances of 45 minutes to keep the crowd, and provide us with several venues in the course of an evening. Great, friendly, and unstuffy service. A Captain who is so "guest friendly" we looked forward to his afternoon often humorous and self-effacing factual announcements, which totally spoke to his competence and professionalism. Our cabin was as cozy as we remembered last year, with well appointed storage which was more than sufficient for me, the chronic overpacker bar none. While we had only travelled before last year, that was on Celebrity 12 years ago, we clearly prefer the smaller ship environment and would not consider other lines at this point. We had previously travelled with Celebrity and Cunard on 2500 to 2800 size ships. This is a quarter of those. The food was good but no better than the larger ships that don't claim to be luxury at the same level. Service was excellent with very friendly and helpful staff. Most drinks are included and it was nice to have wine with a choice at each meal included. The smaller ship meant that we met friends more easily whilst around the ship. The entertainment was much more limited than for the larger ships due to space and budget. It was more personal but also a bit more amateur. The 'Amazing' evening ashore when Azamara put on a an evening event for all the travellers was brilliant and free. There was also a 'white Knight' barbecue evening on the higher deck which was superb with excellent food. So, the cruise was very good and different from the larger ships. Would we travel again? Probably only if the itinerary fitted. Read Less

We chose this cruise based upon advertising and online recommendations. In a nutshell, the Azamara Quest over-promises and under-performs in many areas, all while charging premium dollars for the cruise. First, we have been on well over 100 cruises and my wife and I agree that the crew on the Quest was the best of any of our many voyages.They were consistently "GREAT". Also, the Captain interacted with the passengers daily, something you rarely see in today's cruise world. The food was hit or miss. We did not go to alternative dining. Food in the Discoveries Restaurant was good, but not great. Hit or miss! For example on several nights, I ordered fish, and without exception, it was very dry. Food in the windows café was varied and again, good, but not great. Based on our cruising experience, most of the shore excursions were grossly overpriced. While we were in port most days, and many passengers left the ship, activities on board were almost nonexistent. Those they had, included such things as "table tennis get-together, unhosted", "Enjoy a caprese Panini in windows café", "bridge game get-together, unhosted" and a "Last chance art sale". Entertainment on "The White Night" and the "Amazing Evening" was extraordinary and enjoyed by all. On balance, most of the other entertainment was good. The ship itself showed some signs that it was due to be refurbished; however, it was well-maintained and very clean. There was a daily trivia however unlike most ships, many of the questions were very difficult, to a fault. We have played a lot of trivia and Azamara must learn to ask questions that are age-appropriate for their passengers and challenging, but not impossible, to answer. I did use the fitness center if you times and the equipment was good, but very limited. The ports were fine and very interesting, but for the most part, very crowded, as you might expect in Europe, in the summer. One last thing. We were told not to make flight arrangements before 11 AM on the last day. As it was, passengers were told to disembark beginning at 8 to 9 AM. Had we known this, our plane travel home could have been much more direct and would have allowed us to get home without overnighting in New York City. Read Less

The staff ! the staff ! the staff! from the second you are on board the Azamara crew becomes second skin . Everyone who works on the Quest is first class in both service and smiles . You feel as if the staff would fullfill any request with a smile and a wink! From the wait staff to the captain from Russ and Meg to the Azamazing performers this cruise ship is all about pampering .performimg and providing the greatest adventure the seas have to offer on shore and off shore .. Food is flavorful ,filling and reflects the port of calls and the passenger profile so well you would think the chef(s) live in our respective countries and towns ,from Italian to American cuisine as well as Indian Asian and Mediterranian .. Entertainement was over the top from on deck Arias to Azamara nights and Azamara whites . Russ the cruise director was delightful ,energetic and robust in his performance. Meg ,The assistant cruise director infused the cruise crowd with her ebergy talent and spirit a most wonderful performer My only complaint ~~~~ the cruise ended too soon but we will be back to enjoy all that Quest has to offer .. This was our first Cruise with Azamara. Unfortunately our expectations were not met. We knew that the “Quest” was an older ship but did expect that the service, food etc. would compensate for that. The cabin - as for the ship itself - really needs a refurbishment. Especially the bathrooms, carpets etc. The cabin size is on the small side, which we knew though. The bathroom is very small and the including shower very tiny.. The service on embarkation day was really bad. We found our cabin to be without bathrobes, slippers, fresh flowers and some of the ameneties in the bathroom were missing. Dirty mirrows in the cabin and messages regarding on board credits to former cruisers had not been removed from the desk. On top of that we received one of our suitcases broken during the embarkation process.. Not really an issue but when it is said that you are to expect a high service then these things are not good enough. The first night we went to the main dining room where we found the service and the food to be very poor. The staff did it’s utmost but being very few persons to serve many guests that meant that we had to ask for water, wine when we wanted a fill up. We had bought the Ultimate beverage package due to a wider selection of wines and sparkling waters. However we had to sit waiting a long time (more than 10-15 minutes) for i.e. a Perrier as the staff had to go a long way to get hold of it. Furthermore we were told in the main dining room (and later) in Angelina and Prime C that portwine (Fonseca) was not included even though we had it in writing. Not comfortable to have to discuss this. We have never experienced such a bad service on our prior 6 cruises(Celebrity and Norwegian). To summit itnup: GOOD: Very nicely decorated “Windows Cafe” - the most stylish we have seen on the ships we have been cruising on. The food in the windows cafe was delicious although the selection was quite limited. The service and the food from “In room dining” - the best we have ever experienced. Being on a small ship means the possibility to get to places that bigger ships cannot go to. The itinerary was really nice - Menorca, Corsico and Elba being our favorites BAD: The service (compared to what was to be expected on a ship that should be luxury). The need of the staterooms, bathrooms, carpets i.e. to be refurbishment. The team spirit between the staff did not seem to be the best. We had a waiter in one of the speciality restaurant that - in our opinion - did not match the job. We was really trying but he seemed to be placed wrong. I.e. his comment when we ordered lobster was a “wow” so to say he was too smart for the job and needed som training how to “behave towards guests”. The food in the Main Dining room was poor - cold and lacked in taste. On “White Night” there were no possibilities to dine outside or sit in a bar if you did not want to attend the “White Night”. The intertainment was so bad. Really missed the productions shows on prior Cruises. Value for money - not worth paying the double price compared to Celebrity. In the future we will choose Celebrity Aqua Class instead. It is important to mention that we are not the only ones who were dissapointed. We spoke to various people on board - first timers on Azamara Quest as well as people who have cruised on Quest before. There was in particular one person who had been on Quest earlier this Year in the Carribean and he could not believe that he was on the same ship this time - so different was it. We do believe that the staff did it’s utmost to give us the service that was to be expected BUT even if they do what is in their power they cannot compensate for CUTS in general made from the persons/managements in charge. We think that Azamara should be profiling themselves as a Cruise Company that can go to small places where big ships cannot go and don’t profile them as being a luxury Line. Read Less

We chose this cruise ship on the advice of our travel agent. It was amazing! We chose to spend one day in port on the ship, we planned a couple of excursions on our own through Viator, a couple of transfers through Azamara and one on our own. Everything went perfectly! The one "excursion" that we planned on our own was the Great Italy Tour of the Bocelli Winery and restaurant. Here is the link: https://greatitalytour.com I cannot recommend this tour enough! It was the most incredible and personal day ever! From the first time I reached out to them, to the pickup at the port, touring the countryside, the food and wine and the best driver and tour guide EVER, this was the best excursion we have ever been on in all of our travels. This was the most expensive of the excursions that we planned and almost considered not booking it but, on the recommendation of a friend, we did and are so glad we made that decision. My advice: Spend the money and cut back somewhere else if need be. It's that good! Now, the cruise: The staff of this particular cruise went above and beyond at every turn, the ship is beautifully decorated and we loved that this cruise was all inclusive; beverages, food and gratuities. I just took my first cruise on the Azamara Journey and was highly impressed with the ship, crew, food, and friendliness of the passengers. I had received an extremely good deal on an obstructed ocean view cabin and luckily was able to select cabin 6036, which is between lifeboats and thus not very obstructed. I was pleasantly surprised how well laid out this cabin was and it was totally acceptible for one person with alot of closet space. The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were soft and easy to sleep on. I enjoyed the smaller ship experience and how friendly the passengers and crew were. The service was exceptional and the food was much better than other, larger ships I have been on. I liked the way the buffet was arranged at dinner with tablecloths and candles, so you felt like you were in a restaurant rather than a cafeteria setting. The ship tours were more expensive but they were much smaller than other ships, with an average participation of about 12-15 persons per tour. It was simple to get on and off the ship and particularly convenient to be docked closer to the ports. I booked several other cruises on Azamara because I felt the higher cost of the line was definitely worth the enhanced experience. It is especially good for solo travelers as Azamara seems to cater to those traveling alone, and the passengers are so friendly and welcoming to everyone. Read Less

We are a retired couple in our early 70's. Both of us have mobility issues. We traveled with our adult daughter and her boyfriend. This is our 10th cruise, 1st on Azamara. We selected it because of the itinerary. I can't say I've always wanted to visit Cuba, but the opportunity presented itself and we thought, Let's go while we are able and permitted. We really liked the smaller ship experience. Our cabin was near the aft elevator, easy to get to the main dining room, Mosaic coffee bar, and the buffet/Patio. I liked that you didn't have to walk so far to the front of the ship also. The cabin was a Club Verandah class. Space was adequate for 2. The shower was the tiniest I've ever seen. We didn't use our verandah much because of the air pollution in Cuba. One thing I didn't like--the gray wallpaper made the cabin gloomy and depressing. I hope they change to a more cheery color scheme when they next refurbish. Food ranged from typical cruise fare (buffet) to outstanding in the main restaurant. I only ordered from the "always available" options twice, for French Onion soup and Crème Brulee. Easter Monday brunch in the dining room was beautiful They really went all out with the ice carvings, decorations, and baked goods. Beverage service was spotty in all venues--sometimes someone would take your order before you even sat down and other times you had to wait, and wait, and wait. This was especially true of coffee at dinner. We prefer our coffee with dessert, but it seems the waiters usually bring it after dessert. Asking didn't help. The only entertainment we attended was the Azamazing Evening. It was truly spectacular. The destinations speaker, Dr. Ellen, was very interesting. She covered topics from Cuban history to present day/future Cuba. Since it was Passover, there was a Rabbi on board, who led two casual discussion groups. Although we are Catholic, we attended the first but had a conflict with the second. There was also a priest who said Mass for Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday, plus on the sea days. We found the fitness center was one of the best maintained of any cruise ships we've sailed. The machines all worked, and they had enough treadmills, exercycles, etc. so you never had to wait. The crew was fantastic. Everyone we encountered was very cheerful, relaxed, and eager to please. Ports and shore excursions: This cruise was not a good fit for us. We visited 4 ports, Key West, Florida, Havana (3 days), Cienfuegos, and an overnight in Santiago de Cuba for the Azamazing Evening. As I mentioned at the beginning, both of us have mobility issues. My husband has had both hips replaced and I am recovering from knee replacement surgery last summer, In both Cienfuegos and Santiago, there were NO mild shore excursions offered. In Havana, only 2, Easy Panoramic Havana and Classic Cars, which could easily replicate each other. Which left us with Moderate Excursions, most of which were more strenuous than the tour booklet description. Key West: Hop On/Hop Off Trolley and Butterfly Conservancy We would normally do a hop on/hop off tour on our own, but actually saved money with the included Butterfly Conservancy. We enjoyed the stop to see the butterflies and the tour of the city which followed. Havana Day 1: Best of Havana A very disappointing tour, more strenuous than described, mediocre tour guide. Hemingway's home was closed due to a holiday (not sure what). Since it was Good Friday, we had the vegetarian option for lunch--rice and salad. Fusterlandia was fascinating and Revolution Square was a good place to see all the classic cars. The bus made a stop back at the ship for those who didn't want to see the flea market. Our daughter said they had a better selection of souvenirs at the terminal. Havana Day 2: Easy Panoramic Havana Bus tour with photo stops. I enjoyed Fusterlandia more this time around. Revolution Square seems to be obligatory. We also visited the old forts on the other side of the Bay and saw relics of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Great tour guide. Havana Day 3: We stayed on the ship Cienfuegos: Colonial Trinidad Should have been marked strenous. Even those with greater mobility had trouble with the cobblestones. Lunch at Ma Dolores restaurant was very good. Visit to the potters' workshop was a highlight. Santiago de Cuba: El Cobre Rated moderate and it actually was. The Church of Our Lady of Charity was beautiful. The steel drum band was very good, but we bought their CD/DVD and haven't been able to get it to work. BEWARE. Lunch at the Tropicana was great. San Juan Hill was the hardest part of the trip. All in all, we met the worst and the best of Cuban society. Lots of beggars/panhandlers in the streets and squares. But the tour guides and others involved in the tourist industry were very pleasant and eager to show off their charming county. Would we go again? Not to Cuba, it's a once in a lifetime experience. But we would happily sail Azamara again if the itinerary appealed. Read Less

I chose this trip because of the itinerary, which scheduled 3 nights in Havana, and also visited Cienfuegos and Santiago. The ship is fine, not much to do. The food at the buffet (I did not eat at the dining room) was OK, not great, soups were awful, desserts limited. Because of my booking date, I was able to do excursions on my own, although one is really on the honor system and it is possible to book private excursions. My problem with the ship excursions is that, because of the newest regulations, they emphasize "people to people" activities to the detriment of typical sightseeing. For example, the ship excursions I joined included time consuming visits to "private artists" and galleries, as well as some cultural dance demonstrations that were interesting, but took time from visiting tourist spots. I hired a private guide using the private agency "Customizing Cuba Tours" to visit Matanzas and Cardenas, two cities with personal ties. My guide, Hamlet, was OUTSTANDING. His agency was very professional throughout the booking process, and everything worked like a clock. The interaction in a private excursion is far more powerful than any other contrived "people to people" contact. I also hired Hamlet to drive me around Havana to visit some of my childhood haunts, and again it was a most rewarding experience, thanks to Hamlet's professionalism. We booked this back to back a year before whilst on the Journey. Check in at Singapore was the worst we’d experienced in our long cruising history. Once aboard the customary welcome glass of champagne was not offered although other guests were walking around with them. In fairness our balcony cabin was lovely - spotless clean with regular towel/bedding changes. Our biggest disappointment was the very poor inferior entertainment. No singers and dancers but a group of four opera singers who are excellent performers but I felt totally inappropriate for a cruise. Their repertoire was far too ‘high brow’ for a relaxing.cruise holiday. The only outstanding performer was Kim Purling. We’d seen him on another cruise and he is an amazing pianist which put all the other acts to shame. There was a has been singer from Las Vegas, a has been comedienne from Australia and other embarrassing performances. I have never walked out of a show before but couldnt stand to sit through these acts. Cruise director Eric did his best to hold things together with his shows. White night has now passed its sell by date as it is so predictable and not so good without singers and dancers. On the plus side we experienced two brilliant Azamaing Evenings. The crew were as welcoming as ever and the service was good. Food was excellent with steaks being the best at sea!.we won’t be rushing back to Azamara. Read Less

Azamara night was a waste of 3.5 hours. disco only had rock and roll and there was no place to cabernet dance after 6PM. no bridge director on board. the ship is well laid out and with the small size it was easy to navigate around. As always activities conflicted. to many non hosted events, they publish solo get together and then there is no one to coordinate it. No one should have unroasted events. Read Less

Just recently sailed on the Azamara Quest from San Diego to Miami through the Panama Canal. We have previously cruised on Oceania and Princess several times, Viking once and we are elite level on Celebrity. The pros for Azamara Quest were the White Night and Azamazing Evening in Cabo San Lucas. The wait staff in the restaurants and bars were excellent. The crew was very friendly and approachable. The food in the specialty restaurants was very good. The buffet had various ethic food nights. I thought that for a ship this size that the entertainment was very good. The cons, we had a verandah cabin on deck 8 and in the middle of the ship, lots of vibration especially at night. My wife got seasick one day and this was the first time this happened after 18 cruises. The bathroom. Is very small and the shower is too small for most humans. Disembarkation was at least 2 hours late getting off the ship due to congestion in the Miami harbor according to the captain. Read Less

San Diego was a fun place to visit before embarking. Enjoyed visiting the USS Midway and the zoo. As usual the cruise was very nice. The crew was amazingly helpful and courteous. Always cheerful (I don’t know how). Our cabin was comfortable and spotless. Plenty of room for the two of us. The entertainment was ok but we don’t go on Azamara for that. If we want better shows we cruise Celebrity Solstice class ships. Specialty restaurants were very good. We mostly ate at the Windows buffet which was fine for us because we’re usually tired after exploring ports and want to eat casually and at our own pace. Ate one night in main dining room and wasn’t that impressed and had to eat at the wait staff’s pace. The excursions we took through the ship were adequate and not badly priced. Since it was our first visit to these ports they were a good introduction. Overall it was one of our better cruises mainly because of the crew and the fun people we met. Read Less

We’re experienced cruisers, an older couple, one of us has a mobility problem. This was the second of two cruises we took this winter, the first was a Princess cruise to Hawaii that was very successful. By contrast the Azamara cruise was less exciting though still very good. We had done two cruises on the Quest last year covering much of the same territory, tho with the addition of the Sea of Cortez. We repeated because we wanted to stay close to North America – and Azamara offers a gourmet experience, important to us. Unfortunately we came down with vicious colds and coughs. No fault of the cruise. Since the temperature was so hot we avoided visiting nearly all the possible ports, barring the Azamara evening in Cabo San Lucas and a short trip in Huatulco. Which meant we stayed on the ship, in itself a pleasant fate. We had an accessible oceanview cabin. It was large, comfortable, and very quiet, indeed a congenial place to spend much of the day. The cabin, on the fourth floor, was especially convenient, with easy access to the elevators and from there to the front and rear of the ship. The Quest is a small ship, so you rarely have a sense of being crowded, unlike on the Star Princess where battling for elevator space was a daily occurrence. Exceptions: when a special event like the white night party or a folkloric show which pulled in so many people, and the pool side bar-b-ques where there were long lines of hungry passengers. We’d expected the food on the Quest to be very good: it had been on five previous trips. And, yes, much of it was tasty. But somehow not as pleasing as before, certainly not at the level of the Crystal (a line we have always enjoyed). The dining room offered a variety of dishes, including the standard salmon and steak, every night. Yet nothing was memorable this time. The nightly wines, included in the fare, were ok but not as good as on the Star Princess (where of course you had to pay). On sea days it also offered lunches, including once a tasty Spanish burger that pleased and, even more, a dim sum feast. (We didn’t try the brunch.) The Patio had excellent burgers and in the evening good steak, though its ribs ho-hum. Prime C, the specialty restaurant, as before, had very good steak (and some really fine desserts) but we found it noisy: try to get a table in the back away from the front where there is a large table that attracts people enjoying themselves with gusto, and thus much noise of course. The various pool side bar-b-ques were abundant and tasty – but, again, the ribs this time were not spectacular. The signature crepes, however, were as good as ever. The Windows Café, the buffet, in the evening served a themed dinner, seafood, Greek, American, etc. The paella prepared individually by a chef for the Spanish evening, was simply superb, one of the best I’ve had anywhere. But the pad thai similarly prepared was mediocre. And the Turkish night offered nothing of interest to us – or most others, it seemed, given the paucity of passengers. Room service breakfast was excellent, the many restricted but still varied, with much to choose from and delivered on time and as requested. We did go to the Windows Café for many lunches: what appealed were the various salads and salad makings as well as the sandwiches and sandwich makings, as well as the soups. The cheeses on the cruise were limited but decent – one difference with the Crystal where the cheeses superb. The Quest looks good, despite its twenty years. It has a classic look yes, especially notable in the Discoveries dining room, the baroque staircase on the 4th-5th floor, and the drawing room. It has an excellent viewing space at the front, the Living Room where in addition you can enjoy drinks and at meal times various tapas. Recently the ship has added replicas of Dalí sculptures, a marvellous touch, and these enhance the overall look of the public areas. Likewise dropping Park West Gallery and replacing them with an individual artist was a wise move: he did an excellent rendition to the night of the dead, the theme of the Azamazing evening, producing it on site. The upgraded stateroom was great, despite the curious bump around the bathroom, presumably to ensure that the water ran off into the drain, not the room. One of the outstanding features of the Azamara Quest is the staff. Captain José, Hotel Director Philip, the entertainment master Russ, the security chief Silvano, all these officers are fine people, friendly, congenial, helpful. And that applies to the rest of the staff. All of the people were ready to help, to offer assistance, to ensure that our needs were met, our concerns satisfied. The Quest is a very friendly ship where the staff goes out of its way to look after passengers. We didn’t do much of the enrichment (tho the lectures we attended were decent) and almost none of the entertainment (excepting Russ’ singular performance, really an enjoyable show). We did go to the Azamazing evening in Cabo (the third time!) and it is certainly singular, full of colour, music, and charm – plus excellent margaritas. I should add that the logistics of this evening, moving all the passengers back and forward without mishap, the professional skill demonstrated, is itself amazing. The folkloric show when in Cartagena was also superb, again full of harmony and dance, a mix of Caribbean and Spanish and Hispanic styles. In the end, then, a fine cruise. Pity our health didn’t allow us to enjoy more. But, in the end, the fact the cruise offered us such great service, some fine spaces, and so much peace made it all worthwhile. Read Less

Great experiences with Azamara. Azamazing evening in Cabo was truly fantastic. The whole idea of no extra charges multiplies the value. An all inclusive at sea. When the captain knows your name by the 5th day, you KNOW you’re on a small ship journey. Our 5th voyage in a row out of 20+ total. Before we found Azamara, HAL had been line of choice. Now, we have done a transAtlantic, SE Asia, South America, and some random Caribbean Cruises with Azamara and are satisfied. There are leaks and tweaks on any cruise line and this is no different—just minimized because of the small ship and great service. The entertainment is not as strong as a big ship, but you don’t have to fight the crowds or sit in the third balcony. The time in port puts these cruises in a world of their own. Last year we did a week long cruise with another line and spent 18 hours total in ports. Our Azamara cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore spent 2 to 3 days in different ports allowing side trips to Angor Watt, Mekong Delta, Hanoi, etc. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the Panama Canal experience and the size of the ship. Embarkation was quicker than anticipated as we hit a lull in the arrival of passengers. The disembarkation did not go as well due to an unavoidable delay in tying up. Also, there seemed to be no urgency in getting the luggage off the ship by the longshoremen; there was a lack of signage directing us to the airport transport and once we were loaded onto the coaches, there seemed to be no concern in getting us to the airport quickly although we were running +/- 1 1/2 hour late, with the result that we almost missed our departure. We have completed 10 cruises to date. This is the first cruise that I felt we should book another trip on this ship due to the friendliness and personalities of the crew we encountered. We felt that the night-time entertainment was only a 5/10. Pianist Sasha and Russ were the exceptions. Give them top marks. We have never encountered a ship's master like Captain Jose. Very personable and likeable. We'd gladly cruise with him again. We felt that the ports of call were too close together. It would have been nicer to have a sea day between a few of them. Read Less

We are loyal Celebrity cruisers and wanted to try something more upscale and on a smaller ship. The Azamara Quest was truly a wonderful experience. The cabins were a bit smaller but had very efficient storage space and decorated with lovely cool gray colors. The closets light up when the door is opened. The food was wonderful in the Main dining room. We enjoyed breakfast, some lunches and some dinners there. We also ate in the specialty restaurants which were a cut above the main dining room in service and ambiance. Overall possibly the best food we have had on any of our many cruises. There were two wonderful evenings you can read about on the web site “White Night” and the “Azamazing Evening”. Both events are so well organized and enjoyable. A must not miss for sure. The entertainment is more subdued than on a ship like Celebtrity but still several beautifully appointed spaces to relax and enjoy a drink before or after dinner. Overall, it was a more sophisticated atmosphere. The decor and ambiance was relaxing and classic. There were no photographers hounding us for photos. There was no pressure to keep spending more money on extra things. The fare is all-inclusive for basic spirits and wines etc. This was wonderful and no need to upgrade unless you are very picky. Sydney to Auckland, Feb18. First impressions were excellent, the online check in made things an absolute breeze, we were onboard the ship by 1pm, which gave us plenty of time to become familiar with her. The Journey is a lovely well maintained ship, very clean. Our cabin on Deck 4 was located midship starboard side around 5 cabins down from the Starboard Gangway but was extremely quiet the whole time we were onboard even with the gangway being utilised. Our cabin was extremely clean, the en suite was on the small side and if you're a big guy then you have to turn sideways on to the shower to fit your shoulders in. The plastic shower curtain is USELESS would be so much better if they just had a glass door. Our cruise was 14 days, we had plenty of storage space and for the first time on 5 different cruise lines I was able to put my Extra Large Samsonite Hardcase under the bed (big plus). Our Cabin Attendants Louis and Reynaldo met us, fantastic guys, who delivered excellent service with a smile or joke every time we met them. They kept the cabin absolutely immacuate. As for the food, well the Main Dining Room was good, good choices and well cooked etc etc as you'd expect. The Buffet up at Windows Cafe, even though it had a number of speciality nights, we saw time after time, the same deserts, the same pasteries, the same sushi served up lunch and dinner. The Chefs Top Table was a STUNNER brilliant, great food, great wine and great company. Prime C Steakhouse the food was average but it was brilliant in Aqualina, as was the service. Coffee was out and out DISASTER and NOT WORTH DRINKING. Getting served UHT Milk for coffee whilst the ship was visiting two of the BEST Dairy Nations in the world is simply not on. As for the Coffee, the beans must have been roasted badly because the coffee was full of acid, no balance and very little favour. Onboard Entertainment to these Aussies was POOR. 54 may have been great for the Americans onboard but to anyone else it was so so. No Presentations on the history of New Zealand etc etc other than the Shore Excursions was pretty poor. That said we had the only Presenter Dr Michael Fopp do outstanding presentations on the Battle of Britain, Early Female Flyers etc etc. The Public Rooms were all excellent and very very comfortable. The ship only has 690 passengers maximum onboard so it was always possible to get a seat except at 6pm for Dinner at the Discoveries Bar or the Sunset Bar on the stern if the ship was sailing. The Itinerary was wonderful with plenty of time in the various ports we visited. Gave us plenty of time to wander around or take up shore excursions. Picton is just gorgeous whilst Napier with its Art Deco buildings was also a highlight. Milford Sound we arrived with grey skies but the sun rose and the sky cleared to show Milford in all its glory. We met a number of the Officers and Crew, all of whom were very nice and would take the time to have a chat with you. Finally the Onboard TV Entertainment was woeful. Documentaries were over 20 years old in some cases, whilst the movie selection was limited and repeated after a couple of days. The first cruise line to introduce a system like the In Flight Entertainment one finds available onboard a flight with Emirates, Singapore or Qantas Airlines will make a killing. No excuse in this day and age of technology for ships not to have such an entertainment system available to its passengers given ships have more space to carry such systems than aircraft. If the airlines can do it, the cruise industry should be doing it as well. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise because of the itinerary and the ships crews. The things listed above if improved would see the Journey really at the top of its game. Read Less

We had last sailed on an Azamara ship approximately 6 -7 years ago and due to a combination of circumstances,destinations and dissatisfaction with Azamara we had not booked again until we found this cruise going from Bali and around Australia beginning on its west coast. At the outset we were delighted with the incredible changes that have been made to the journey. The refurbishment of the ship was good, but the cabin redo's were excellent. Space was much better utilized, especially in the suites. for the first time we actually had room to spare for our belongings on this longish, 18 day cruise. The bathroom set up was a great improvement, over past years and other comparable accommodations on other cruise lines, having a much larger amount of space for our toiletries. The staff was wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly and all had the Ritz Carlton mentality/mantra of being empowered, or so it seemed, to solve problems, both large and small.Highlights of the trip included a great White Nights evening, a wonderful breakfast for Le Voyage Club, Azamara loyalty program, members and a simply superb rijsttafel dinner one evening, at a small extra charge. Gratuities included as is most alcohol, other than very high end premium brands of liquors and wines. With all of that "booze" it was interesting that we never saw a single passenger the slightest bit tipsy other than when the waves were high. Of course some things were not great. Included in that was the differences in the taste and quality of coffee depending on the venue in which it was served. some of the tours that we attended were fair or less at best including the Azmazing night in port at Freemantle. The singers/musicians and songwriters were good, but the native dancers performed off the stage and on a level with the chairs so that unless one sat up front it was difficult to see them. The food was plentiful and quite good at this event but the venue was overcrowded and very hot. Entertainment on the boat is what one would expect with a smallish ship-not terrific, but in some instances quite passable. The enrichment lectures were quite good. In sum, I would rate them tops for value and would not hesitate to return to Azamara for other cruises in the near future. Read Less

To judge by the number of B2B travellers from the previous cruise, many of the Azamara family had been eagerly awaiting this first journey to Sydney round the West Australian coast. I for one was certainly not disappointed. A brisk headwind greeted our journey south, but as we visited ports where we were given an enthusiastic welcome, the temperature hovered around the mid 20's (70's) which made for comfortable exploration .For a first journey, the ship's excursions, while expensive, were varied and professionally presented but one or two need fine tuning The shuttles provided for individual exploration, worked well. Tenders were needed for only two ports. As a solo, older traveller, I cannot speak too highly of the always pleasant, professional and efficient staff throughout the ship. One never needed to be surrounded by family or fiends to feel included. Open dining in Discovery in the evenings made for many pleasant and interesting dinners. The delayed arrival of a Bridge Director in Perth was welcomed by the card players in Perth as lessons and duplicate sessions began. Some of the entertainment was outstanding, especially two of the solo singers but I think some of the day time lectures might have dealt with Australian history and culture. The films shown on board were disappointing compared to other Azamara cruises. While Casablanca and Sleepless in Seattle are classics more recent offerings would have been welcome. I noted that people with varied dietary needs were well catered for but while the range of food available was broad and more than adequate, the menu in Discovery has changed little over the years and I personally would like to see more authentic dishes in Windows on Asian and Middle Eastern evenings. My husband & I & our adult son have just returned from our, carefully researched and happily anticipated cruise around Indonesia. Our son has, well controlled & monitored, Bi Polar Disorder. Our staterooms were comfortable. The food was good quality in both the buffet & main dining room. the 'Brunch was a standout. Service there was very good. We also ate in Prime specialty restaurant & it was excellent. The public spaces were pleasant & cabin attendants very good. All of these aspects validate the value of a cruise. These things, however, pale into insignificance if our priority of emotional well being is not met. The Hotel Manager, on this Azamara Journey, comprehensively failed to give this to us. To facilitate making his job easy, he sacrificed our holiday to maintain the status quo for the ' regular ' Client Base & the staff. The surreal atmosphere, once in board this ship, was one of ' team staff ' & ' team cruiser ' all working together for the elusive Superior Azamara Brand. Our son was involved in an incident of indiscretion one evening for which he apologized & expressed his great regret. After enjoying just 4 beers, he was refused service at the ' pool bar ', ( because he had had too much to drink the afternoon before ) After that , he had made a firm conviction not to drink too much. We were with him & he was happy & not inebriated. Because he was refused service, on this occasion, he became bewildered and with disappointment he kicked a bucket of ice being moved, on the ground, into the back of the bar, unintentionally slightly bruising the leg of the bar staff member who was moving it. No passages were in jeopardy of having their cruise spoiled & staff were not in danger. He was ' Tried & judged ' by the Hotel Manager. Regardless of our resounding reassurance of " no chance of re occurrence ". Heavy handed punishment was inflicted on my son ( accompanied by a strongly implied threat of being evicted from the ship if the punitive conditions were not adhered to. ) I was an after hours manager for 30 years at a large private hospital, dealing with some extremely difficult situations, so I was astounded by the Hotel Managers lack of intelligent empathy that resulted in the discrimination that destroyed our holiday... for all of us....... ( in support of my son, who was summoned to the Managers office, I was forced to miss my highlight excursion to Borobudur, our main reason for going to this part of the world ) So........ take care, & be warned, fellow cruisers, if you choose to sail on the good ship Azamara Journey, never make a single mistake & play your part in the ' team effort ' game.......because you will not be afforded a second chance to redeem yourself........... We made the Singapore cruise to Bali last January of this year. It was our 4th cruise on Azamara, and number 12 of all we did. And the experience was not as good as we used to Azamara All protocol, cleaning, food, etc. was fulfilled But it lacked the "extra touch" that showed that the company was really interested in passengers. Entertainment was poor, The average age of the passengers must be 55/60 years. And we did not get the disc jockey to put on music that we could dance (with one exception of one night). The food was healthy but extremely boring in the main dining room. The shore excursions are badly organized. They had a central focus, for example, the Borobudur temple in Java, but in a 10-hour trip, we could only spend 1 hour in that wonderful place, the rest of the time in places that were not worth it. The same happened in the excursion in the north of Bali. In both, they should have provided us all with lunch boxes since the food that was included was full of flies !! (my husband and I take that forecast and end up sharing it with other passengers). Very good idea the special night with the music and culture of Bali. But nobody explained the meaning and symbols of the characters, the story, the gestures. And we lost a chance to understand such a different culture. And what ended up as a signal that the concern for the passengers was superficial was the landing in Benoa. In January Bali as all of Indonesia is in the rainy season. Being later in Bali we learned that torrential rain occurs basically from 18 pm to 10 am. The rest of the time is hot and humid and may drizzle. We had to disembark at 9 am (probably because other passengers would embark later) in the middle of a torrential rain.And something that is clear on the boat for its equipment is when the intense rain ends The ship did not have any protection (upper tarpaulin) on the stairway, they had not foreseen anything on the surface until they reached the port building, etc.etc. We got very wet, so much that I got sick the rest of the trip. Nothing to do with the treatment we had in 2017 at the Azamara Quest where we could see the capital and the officers permanently touring the ship and taking care of even a change of route to make the trip smoother. Nor the other two trips we made earlier in the Quest. When we get off a cruise, in general, we are already thinking about the next one. I do not know if we will do it again in an Azamara. One more point, I wanted to write this in the online survey they sent us (first it is a shame that a company like Azamara use SurveyMonkey program almost free) and also it closed twice and I could not complete it. Something good: the food and those who treated us in El Patio! I hope this serves to improve, especially that a new ship of the line is being launched. Read Less

I have booked another cruise and giving Azamara another chance to improve their wines. Good Australian wines are not at all expensive. Apart from that I enjoyed the cruise with Azamara I like more than one day in ports and chose this cruise for that reason as well as the destinations. Eric de Gray is one one of your best assets. Edina in the restaurants was always so friendly and willing to serve us with a smile. Enjoyed Agnes Lee’s Bridge sessions. Our cabin was serviced to our expectations We could dine whenever we liked and sitting with different people in the Discovery Dining was so good. Our Excursion to Hanoi was a big disappointment. Azamazing evening was very good but too much food was offered at the venue. We had eaten on the ship and didn’t know there would be so much food offered. A waste of so much food as we didn’t have any. Read Less
