20+cruises with thomson,1st on discovery great ship ,staff, and entertainment, one gripe Broadway lounge next to live room the noise could be heard in the atrium we're a singer was trying to perform right next door to the live room ,3 venues right next to each other crazy!.the slug and lettuce pub was only used for quizzes and sometimes a group, good bar to meet and have a talk with people instead of daft quizzes and noise, perfect for background music and relax. Plus disappointed with no group or singer on stage in the afternoons when people get back on the ship ,we used to look forward to hear them on deck before the afternoon trivia questions. All in all great time had by all nearly!we must mention our room cleaners Rhea and Eddi very polite and always smiling made everyday a happy one thanks to them and all the bar staff and waiters for there hard work .corfu airport is a joke, waiting outside in a queue about 100 yards long in the heat waiting to put our cases in to the check out, sorry but not much help or info from tui staff.the much liked crew show was pathetic the backgroud pictures of the singer/artist took longer than the person singing,we are all for a bit of background on their lives but come on! maybe thats why there was only 4 crew members chose to sing, usually they put on a great show and receive the loadest cheers of the night.i hope this is a fair review and we will pick marella cruises again, thanks again to all the staff for a great cruise. Our group of 6 adults cruised the iconic isles cruise it was fantastic from start to finish apart from two nights of rough seas that prevented us docking in Zante but instead we docked in katakolon which was beautiful. Food and drink was excellent something to suit everyone bar staff gr8 and especially the waiter Nikola from serbea who was so good to us throughout the week. Inside cabin was compact but good for us and had everything we needed Reginald was our house keeper and always was so pleasent and friendly. Will definitely be booking again well done TUI.Embarkment and Disembarkment were exceptional smooth and as we were on an evening flight we were able to stay on book with full use of all inclusive facilities until our pick up time, luggage all colour coded and ready for our coach. Only downside was the entertainment got a bit repetitive and we didn't enjoy the comedian at all but still loads more to keep us entertained. Read Less

This was our first ever cruise. We were a bit dubious at first and wasn’t sure if it was for us, but after a couple of days, we found our feet and began to enjoy it. The day at sea, the boat was very very busy (understandably), the pool area looked like seal colony, people were packed in like sardines, which I didn’t like. Days at destinations was fine - plenty of room. The staff are EXCELLENT! Very friendly and always happy to help you and serve you. Certain staff really stood out ... the Head Waiter Josico ... great manager and really goes out of his way to help. Charity the waitress in the steak restaurant is just lovely! Sofie on the destination desk was lovely and so helpful. Some of the entertainment is fantastic ... our favourites were the singer Maynia / Jessica Drake on the Piano / the comedian is a must! He’s so so funny. Those 3 entertainers were the highlight of our cruise. The Steak restaurant for a supplement is well worth it! The food and service are amazing! The only thing that was a bit of a let down was that every day you would be pretty much guaranteed to be served a drink that was not 100% clean. We sent back lots of drinks because lots of glasses had lipstick marks on them. Read Less

We went on this cruise because we had been on the Marella Dream in June, we had such a good time on the Dream we decided to go on the Discovery, so we could compare the two. we enjoyed both to be honest, although the Dream is smaller and older ship than the Discovery I'd say the Dream just piped the Discovery for us. We thought the Dream managed the people it had on board better than the Discovery, it just seemed to us that there were to many people for them to cope with comfortably. Don't get me wrong the staff were fantastic and worked very hard to make our stay as good as they could, we just thought the management had packed to many people on the ship. To give you an example if you were out and about at night there didn't seem to be enough seating for all the customers, I'm not sure if some parts of the Discovery were more popular than others but it did look odd that there were a lots of people having to stand because there were no seats available. Food on the Discovery was good and plentiful, we did have an issue with the bacon on the breakfast buffet which I have written to them about but that was all, just going back to the subject of room, we went as a couple and when we went to the 47 gallery or the 47 restaurant we wanted a table for two which we did get, but the tables were only separated by a few inches so there was no chance of a intermate or private conversation because you were so close to the next table. Now again don't get me wrong we are not loners and can mix with the best of them, but if I wanted to make eyes at my wife I don't want the women on the next table getting the wrong idea because we so close together. The cabins were nice and the staff kept them clean, the places we stopped were good, except Santorini which was a disappointment the place would be lovely if it wasn't for the vast amount of people, we expected it to be busy but goodness me it was packed to the rafters. My wife has a disability and walking is a problem so it was even harder for her to get around because the crowds, there were no places to rest for her because all the places were full, so we decided to go back to the ship, but even this was a big problem because the queue for the cable car back down the mountain was so long its was a long hot wait of 20 minutes before we got back down. So if you go on this cruise been warned its busy and hot at the top the crowds are mad and in our minds Santorini has that far away look, it looks better far away. All the other destinations on the trip were better and we enjoyed them. Over all we had a good time we will go again with TUI next year on a different ship and see how they do, look out for my review. Read Less

we chose this cruise because we hadn't been to any of the destinations. We upgraded to an outside cabin which had a decent size window and was of OK size. We also pre paid the drinks package and three lots of excursions before we went. Even though our agent had done all the API and we had checked in on line and printed off our own boarding passes when we got to Stansted we still had to Que with everybody else who had done the same for about 20 mins for baggage drop. No quicker than before you had to do all this stuff yourself. Should have had more than two on check in I think. Flight on time, luggage at Corfu great, reps there to meet, straight onto coach and 15 minx to port. Check in quick and luggage arrived at cabin within 30 mins. I would probably put swim stuff in hand luggage as it says can take up to 2-3 hours. Food, service, staff all very good. We were on deck 6. Main formal restaurant on 4 and pools and Lido self service on 9. Formal night very good, black tie, long or short dresses are the order. We thought we would do self service all week but we did the formal. Did the hot rocks restaurant one night £16 pp extra however lovely evening. This is done round the closed pool at the front of the ship so inside/outside sought of thing. Must be good as captain and officers were there the same night as us. The excursions were good however mostly 0830 starts! Our favourite island was Syros where we just walked round the town. One good thing all the places you dock you can just walk ashore and just go or get the hop on hop off bus or the city bus on Crete to town for €1.70. Two places had to tender, santorini and Zakinthos. Enjoyed captain's twice daily announcements on weather, speed, direction, sunrise, what time the pilot was coming on board, docking etc. Good to know they support recycling as say the skip arrive on departure day. Have to be out of your cabin by 8am on morning of departure. Really enjoyed this cruise it was as formal or casual as you want to make it. Read Less

As this was our first cruise we were a little bit apprehensive of what to expect. So after much deliberation between my wife and I we eventually settled for the Thomson Dream. This being a slightly smaller vessel than others viewed, and decided on after having read many posts about the Dream on a few sites. To us novices we found it a bit smaller than we thought it was, but were quite happy about that. We picked a Cruise and Stay holiday for our first adventure. We flew from Edinburgh to Corfu with Thomson doing the Aegean Shores, no hitches at all pleased with this flight. On arrival at Corfu we were ushered to the embarkation hall where we found the whole process very simple and easy. On joining the ship our luggage was waiting at our cabin door. Our cabin was comfy clean and quiet all the time. The food on board was very good along with the service received. Plenty to do on board at nights, can't say much about day time as never on board. We never used the ships tours as we like to do our own thing. Overall we throughly enjoyed our first experience cruising the seas, in fact we liked it so much that we've booked again with Thomson this time on the Discovery and we're heading on the Baltic Experience next June. Our stay was at the Sensimar Grand Mediterraneo Resort & Spa by Atlantica in Corfu. We again throughly enjoyed this hotel, food excellent, staff very accommodating, facilities excellent, the only thing I would point out here is depending on where your allocated it does have a steep hill up to the hotel complex, but not to worry pick up the phone and call reception and within a few minutes a golf buggy will arrive and transport you up the hill if required. Entertainment at night was very good, but it can get slightly crowded so you need to get there early for the nightly entertainment. The complex has a pebbled beach, not to everyone's liking, and you get there by the Gondalla Train, or walk down about, well a lot of stairs. Local buses come into the complex, prices very reasonable. Read Less

We chose Thomson Dream because it was going to the area we wanted and we had already travelled on the smaller ships Celebration twice and Majesty once. Dream has undergone refurbishment and the scale of the ship was good with three sets of stairways between decks, all the lifts operated except one and I imagine they keep one available for transport of furniture and equipment for maintenance. We took a wrong turn one day ending in a basement area where they were steam cleaning a sofa, to be lauded. The staff were courteous, cheerful and helpful. The food was of good quality and sometimes the quantity at the 'main' of the four course inclusive evening meal in the Orion was a little too much e.g the serving of roast tuna. We ate there most evenings, men wore shirt and long trousers and ladies wore skirts, slacks, nice tops or day dresses, (except the captain's dinner when men wore dinner jackets,or suits and ties, or sports jackets and ties and long sleeve shirt, some didn't wear the jackets just long sleeve shirts and ties, ladies as far as I could see wore cocktail type outfits either dresses, suits or trousers with fancy tops. El Capitaine Richard Watkins was his usual warm, welcoming and sociable self, his new word of 'negatory' used when asked if the entertainment troupe had followed him from his previous ship! He is a great character). He used the ships tannoy to give us news of arrival and departure from ports and when there were particular issues with regard to ports or the ship, that we needed to be made aware of, including temperature outside in port and the speed of the ship. Singer Ben Moss needs a larger venue due to lack of seating, entertainment troupe fab. Learned line dancing one day, lots of activities on ship. Would have liked an evening film show in between events. The later you leave the facial in the trip the cheaper it shall be. Read Less

We much enjoyed our cruise and found the ship a pleasant and comfortable base from which to explore a variety of Greek (and one Turkish) ports. The crew were always very helpful and cheerful. Three dining room staff in particular were very helpful indeed namely, Hendrick, Segfried and Ferri. Thank you gentlemen for your care of us. The food in the dining room was good and we enjoyed every meal. The wine list is reasonable too. Our cabin, an outside standard one, was spacious and comfortable. The entertainment was excellent especially Benjamin Moss who played every night to a packed Waters Edge audience. The main theatre was the two deck high Broadway and the cruise singers and dancers were superb. We have cruised with Thomson before and find them good value for money with no nonsense over tips and over dressed dining! Smart casual sums it up. We are sailing with Thomson again next September and are already looking forward to it! Read Less

My wife's first cruise, due to her work commitments we could only cruise during very selected dates, thomson were able to supply our cruise during the time we had available, hence cruising with thomson. We tried to study as many reviews as we could before sailing, sadly a lot weren't very favourable but we decided to go ahead anyway. Overall the cruise was to both our liking, nowhere near as bad as a lot of people have written in the press etc ! We did the hellenic classics cruise. Start at corfu, chania in crete, mykonos town, kusadasi (turkey), piraeus (greece), katakolon (greece), then back to corfu. Most of the journey we enjoyed. Chania, quite pleasant, no problems. We didn't rate much on mykonos town, wouldn't go again, just an all white tourist shop, ashore by tender, fairly rough sea, but no problems. Next piraeus(greece), very hot day 37,too hot for coach trip etc to athens, a lot of people said they weren't too happy after going, glad we didn't go! pretty big port town a little off putting, we got a little tourist train to have a good wander round the town, not too long a time but but got off for a beer half way round had a look round the marinas, not too bad, and then picked up the next train to go back to the port area. A little shopping and back to the ship fairly early for a relax. Next katakolon,(greece) last call on the return trip, tiny little harbour, great for a gentle walk around, shopping, beers etc, a little lunch.we really liked our time there, people very nice and not pushy. Last bit of trip at sea, calm seas and very relaxing by the pools etc, finish every evening in the hot tubs,(swimming pool, deck 11). Overall, cabin midships deck 6 quite acceptable, very nice, clean enough, cleaner , lovely phillipino,we liked him! free food in restaurants not too bad, mornings queues a bit too much (needs addressing).snacks by the pool bars not too bad,we liked the burgers. Liked the orion restaurant, food very nice, but you had to pay £10 each extra even if you were all inclusive like ourselves (a touch annoying if you wanted a steak).we have to say, the steaks were lovely!! From day one a lot of crew pestering us to pay to upgrade our already paid for drinks package,(£140) for two people on top of the £300 i paid before the cruise, very naughty and got us quite angry!!! We were told the drinks package was everything on the drinks tariff, not so, without paying a lot more the selection is very, very limited, bit of a trick,a lot of complaints about this, overall rather naughty, should be stopped!!! YOU ALSO HAD TO BUY WATER, ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN A HOT CLIMATE.(BUY ASHORE) Shows and general nightlife we enjoyed, staff all very nice. On arrival at the ship, suitcases outside the cabin pretty quickly,no problems there! Leaving the ship, no problems,if you followed instructions,(some people didn't and started complaining).bus to corfu airport no problems at all, staff explained what to do. THEN THE PROBLEMS STARTED, CORFU AIRPORT IS A JOKE, (BUT NOT FUNNY).NO AIRCONDITIONING, BLAZING HOT, A LOT OF PEOPLE NOT FEELING TOO GOOD WITH THE HEAT.IF YOU DECIDED TO TRY AND GET TO THE TINY CAFETERIA, BAR AREA ETC, GOOD LUCK, MASSIVE QUEUES ALL THE TIME,THE WHOLE AIRPORT NOWHERE NEAR UP TO SPECK FOR THE TOURIST TRAFFIC VOLUME(TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE.) Worst of the whole cruise, and this is thomsons greed only, terribly high excess baggage fees, around £20 a kilo (highway robbery!!!.) sadly i had bought quite a lot of presents for my wife and myself, it really ruined our holiday and caused a big row in the airport where the staff were mercenary and rude, never again, you can stuff corfu airport. be warned !!! Many people broken hearted, if you don't pay you lose everything.( what's the point of a holiday if you can't but presents etc ?? Once again beware corfu and thomsons, very naughty company!!! Last but not least, for some picky people the ship is a little tired in some places, but she is over 24 years old,for us no big problem, but some people were always going on about this. Overall, the captain and crew were great to us and made me and my wife very welcome. The captain especially nice chap and very kind to us (full marks for attitude and decency and politeness) and seamanship!! Read Less

At first I was a bit apprehensive going on my first cruise with my 83 year old grandmother but I was pleasantly surprised. On arrival I was helped with my grans wheelchair through check in and to the cabin. The cabin was small and dated but we couldn't complain as we got a cheap deal. The food at the Lido was great, we ate there every day and there was a different selection every meal time. Most of the restaurant staff were lovely, especially Noel, they all managed to remember myself and my grans name from the first day! The entertainment team were first class, putting on a different show each night. The comedian Peter pier was also brilliant. I especially enjoyed the Scottish jokes! The gym was small but functional, I went 4 times during my cruise and it done the job. Half way through the cruise I done a seascape photo session with one of the photographers, Damien. I was pretty nervous at the start as I was on my own but Damien put me at ease right away and made me feel relaxed during the shoot. We got some amazing shots and decided to buy the lot! I would highly recommend Damien. Read Less

Sailed out of Marmaris on the Ancient Wonders itinerary but Marmaris wasn't on the drop-down list! The ship actually looks like a ship and isn't in any way comparable to the modern day liners you will pass at sea or see in port but I kind of liked that. The flip side of course is that the Celebration isn't as luxurious as these floating hotels but nevertheless it has everything a person would need including a small gym along with several bars and restaurants plus a show lounge. Food - very good quality albeit the standard fayre and with plenty of choice for vegetarians. Drink - I was disappointed with the quality of beers and wines etc to the point that I probably would not take up the option of a "drinks package" in future and simply buy the premium brands. The "west end shows" are of course nothing of the sort and more like the sort of thing the local amateur drama club might put on at Christmas but that said they are entertaining. Cabins - are small but this is a ship after all and are fine. Crew - are very friendly and could not be faulted. Overall - Probably akin to a 3* hotel and I would return.   Read Less
