As other cruisers have put it, this ship should have stayed in drydock. The information published on the internet about the refurbishment indicated some great changes that would certainly enhance the cruise. Coupled with our previous HAL experiences, we had high expectations. Unfortunately the information was inaccurate and, to be frank, this ship is a piece of junk.

I generally choose HAL for the itineraries. The ship is in really poor condition. Bathroom, broken shower tiles with mold, staining, and rust. Three water main breaks on second deck over 4 weeks. Loud construction noises on room nearby for four days, which then went on to being flooded. I did not choose my room you upgaded me to this.

Shore excursions were as usual, and as usual it was cheaper and better to organise your own if feasible.

Recently completed HAL Indonesia cruise, round trip Singapore. Was not impressed. Embarkation was a little slow, but not a big negative. We cruised on the Volendam from 9 to 21 December 2013 - from Singapore to Hong Kong. This was our seventh cruise on five different cruise lines.
We liked the fact that we never had to wait for the lifts and we liked the option of being able to have a bath.

Stateroom requested Suite G2706 ... Paid $3850 per person march 2012
The same stateroom selling for $2200 per person in December 2012 two months before sailing. Called Holland America office and talked with supervisor who informed me that he could not refund the difference but would upgrade to window stateroom.
No refund but an update from HAL offered........BIG MISTAKE..DO NOT ACCEPT ...
