(12:56 p.m. EDT) -- Carnival Cruise Line's Asian restaurant Bonsai just grew a little bigger; Bonsai Teppanyaki will debut onboard Carnival Horizon when it launches in spring 2018, making it the line's first teppanyaki restaurant at sea.

The announcement was made this afternoon at an event for travel agents and media onboard Carnival Sunshine while docked at the Port of Manhattan.

Nestled within the Bonsai Sushi restaurant, which will be located on Horizon's promenade deck, Bonsai Teppanyaki will be a for-fee venue featuring two eight-person tables surrounding Japanese hibachi grill stations. Chefs will slice and dice, demonstrating knife skills, performing tricks and providing entertainment to diners along with their meal. Meals include a selection of appetizers, an entree and a dessert.

Passengers can choose from five appetizer selections -- like pork belly yakitori with sesame asparagus fries and seaweed  or spicy tuna on the rocks with onion sesame sauce and miso –with their entrees; prices range from $18 to $30. Choices include lobster tail with yuzu cream and citrus kosho ($30); filet mignon with truffle salt, garlic chips and a Champagne cognac  flambe ($20); teriyaki salmon ($18); black cod ($20); shrimp served with young lettuce and Gyukuro tea ($20); spiced and grilled teriyaki chicken ($18); and grilled tofu with vegetables, yaki udon noodles and a teriyaki anticucho sauce ($18). Entree combinations can include steak/shrimp, shrimp/chicken, steak/salmon – all $20 – and steak/lobster tail ($30).  All entrees are served with fried rice and stir-fried vegetables.

For dessert, Bonsai Teppanyaki patrons will be receive a chocolate bento box with green tea ice cream.

Bonsai Teppanyaki, on Carnival Horizon, will be open for lunch on sea days and for dinner every night. Given that the seating capacity is 16 people, reservations are highly recommended.

This latest dining venue for Carnival Horizon joins family-style Italian restaurant Cucina del Capitano, steakhouse Fahrenheit 555, Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, Pizza Pirate and Seafood Shack.

After Horizon debuts in Europe in April 2018, the ship will cruise to New York for a summer of four-night Bermuda and eight-night Caribbean cruises before repositioning to Miami for year-round Caribbean sailing beginning in late September 2018.
