Do not book a cruise on Sunrise!! The positives: The Flying Scotsman; family memories, Java Blue coffee shop, debarkation, free laundry (pay machine was broken) Negatives: Smell of sewage throughout ship Cabin bathrooms smell of urine Cabin 6365 is below casino, constant smell of cigarettes (lung cancer anyone?) LOUD - doors bang shut - Passengers - most of them were rude, for example: things I heard in the hallway (mid ship 6th floor): a parent telling a young child they are "retarded," toddlers left unattended, people encouraging friend to vomit in hallway (he succeeded), smell of marijuana Scantily clad passengers who left nothing to your imagination. Breakfast in dining room WAS FANTASTIC!!!!! Dinner in dining room - AWFUL (ending up just eating dessert every night) At 2 am, a group was outside our door talking loudly. My husband asked them NICELY if they could keep it down, to which they replied "f you, we will f you up!" Read Less

***LONG POST AND REVIEW*** First time poster here! I recently returned from my 2nd cruise ever to celebrate my birthday. It was 7 days on the Norwegian Escape to Bermuda. We spent two and a half days ported. Cons- Truthfully I wasn't too impressed with the food. We did fine dining six nights out of the seven, and the menu didn't really change. The main buffet (Garden Cafe) was just okay. I am a vegetarian, so there wasn't many choices outside of pasta/grains for my main course. I also felt like they were scared to season the food and I had to use salt and pepper for most of my meals. They did keep a variety of selections for the main course/entree with meats included, none of which I could eat. I found that the Indian food and dessert was the best! They had several specialty restaurants on board all of which were extra money. This includes lobster for those of you seafood lovers. Pros- Great time of year to go. We had beautiful weather everyday. Bermuda was AMAZING. The beaches were like nothing I've seen before, and was different all around the island. Horsehoe Bay is the tourist spot, but I would recommend to visit the other beaches that are less crowded (Jobson's Cove). We did two excursions on my birthday. Hartley's Helmet Diving and the Sunset Catamaran cruise. The Helmet diving was quite the experience and well worth it. We spent at least 45 minutes on the bottom of the ocean floor getting to touch and take pictures with the fish. The Catamaran was very relaxing. They served us bottomless Rum Swizzle, and chocolate chip cookies. Both excursions were booked through Trip Advisor. I recommend to do it that way if you wanna save a little bit of money. Also, we were told ( by locals) it was costly to eat and drink in Bermuda, so we did that on the ship. The Escape is a beautiful ship. They had some noteworthy shows as well as parties. My first cruise was with Carnival, and I'd have to say I did WAY MORE partying on the Norwegian Escape. (We did purchase the drink package..WORTH IT especially on anything longer then a five day cruise). So don't believe everything you hear about Norwegian being completely boring! We partied with EVERYONE from all walks of life...anyone who was up for having a good time. We had two cruise directors who were fun and upbeat. All in all I would definitely book with Norwegian again. You create the experiences you want to have, not necessarily the cruise line. I can't wait to try out their other ships! Read Less

The restaurants had some of the worst food I have ever had and the service was terribly slow. It seemed like they bought the cheapest buffet food online and then tried to feed it to us! Half the buffet was closed almost all of the time and half of the golf course was closed off when we got there! The remote in our room only worked about .3% of the time. I finally was able to rent a movie on the tv and then the TV glitched and deleted it! It was $10.00 for the movie! The woman at the Atrium bar was very rude and made consistently rude comments to us so we complained to customer service and they were unable to assist us. Everything from the pool tables to the regular tables looked run down and old. We turned on the light to have our room made up and towels exchanged and the cleaning woman came in turned off the light and closed the door! She did not clean the room, exchange the towels or even come back! The room service was a joke and took forever to get there. They forgot a part of the same order 3 times and brought it town 2 hours later. We had to keep calling to follow up. The entertainment was lacking and the movies were showed in the Atrium which is located in the center of the ship so you could not hear anything! We were just happy to get off the forsaken nightmare that was that ship. I have cruised with Princess, Royal Carribean and Celebrity and have never had a bad experience on their ships. Save your money and go with a different company or you will have a bad time. Read Less

We only chose to go on this because we had $250 nextcruise credit with NCL that was about to expire. Last time we sailed with them was in 2015 on the Breakaway and we were not too crazy about the service so we thought this would be our last cruise with NCL. I have to say that NCL redeemed themselves nicely on the Escape. Check in was a bit confusing. There was no longer a separate desk for Platinum members. Instead, they divided people according to their deck number. It was pretty smooth. It took us less than half hour to get on the ship. We got the drink package as well as 3 night dining packages. It was worth every penny. We had drinks as soon as we were on board. If you're looking for a bartender that knows what they are doing, I recommend Iketut at the MIxx bar. Everything he made was superb. We used our dining packages at Cagney's, La Cucina and Teppanyaki. Of the 3, I'd have to say La Cucina wins in terms of service and food quality. We dined at Manhattan once and service and food was night and day compared to the specialty restaurants. Service very slow. Nobody cared if we wanted to order drinks. Food was really salty for my taste so I only took one bite and sent it back. However, they do have great live music which somewhat made up for it. On other days, we dined at O'Sheehan's both for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Good food and good service there. Can't really go wrong with them. We had a 5 year old with us. He absolutely LOVED splashed academy. He loved it so much he didn't want to leave. In fact, he asked to go back to that ship again if we cruise. Entertainment was really really good. From comedy to shows (e.g. after midnight), to dinner shows (Chelsey, Company of Men), to parties at H20. We thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I used fitness center 3 times. Loved the equipment provided. Only problem was, it could be quite busy and you might have to wait to use the machines. I also manage a hot stone massage. Loved the service and the massage but hated that they tried to push products on me at the end. Then again, this is a normal for ALL cruise lines. Now for things that could be improved: not too crazy about the pool deck. It was always packed and constantly smelled like food that sometime made me feel ill. My wife went to art auctions and she said they did not show the art works that people requested to see. Dinner at main dining rooms could have been better. Food at Garden Cafe serve its purpose. What I don't get is the ship is full of Asian workers, yet, none of the Asian dishes they served was good. Disembarkation was chaotic. Not the cruise line's fault. But as soon as we get off the ship, we were screamed at by the customs and boarder patrols like we a herd of cattle. From the time they announced our tag color to the time we got our luggage and exited, it took almost a whole hour. Overall, I highly recommend this cruise if you get dining and drink packages. Bermuda cruise so only 1 long (3 day) stop. Plenty of time to explore and/or just enjoy the ship. Plenty of venues for eating and entertainment on this beautiful ship. Plenty of food options at the buffet as well with various stations. Although embarkation and disembarkation was a nightmare. We disembarked with our luggage but still had to get in line behind the people picking up their luggage rather than proceeding straight to customs as other cruise lines do. We traveled with the family so ages ranged from 20 to 85 and this cruise was perfect for all of us. Plenty of entertainment options for the 20 year old and plenty of accommodations made for the 85 year old (designated tables at buffet and theatre, plenty of staff to help seat and carry drinks/food). The pool area can get quite crowded and loud. Not a place for quiet reading or relaxing. The “quiet” option is H2O Spice area that has lots of chairs but only a few umbrellas so if you want shade you have to get there early (before 7am on sea days). But there is a walk thru grotto with water feature for cooling off. Would definitely cruise with NCL again. Read Less

The staff was amazing starting from the time we got on board until we got off. They made our stay a memorable one. We adored Gerald Casillo! He was the best! The food was incredible and this included the Garden Cafe as well as the specialty restaurants. We found the bartenders to be not so friendly and seemed annoyed at times when ordering drinks. Although we were only able to see The Manhatran Club because we were too late in trying to see other shows the entertainment was top notch! The Karaoke at the 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar was the best. Both my husband and I along with our kids spent alot of time there and Rafiqic was by far the BEST!! Alex the cruise director rocked it! He was lots of fun and found him to be the perfect person for this job! What can I say about Bermuda? It was absolutely spectacular and we can't wait to go back on the Escape to Bermuda again! My Husband and I have been on many cruises including the Norwegian Escape. June 23rd 2019 we took our son/wife/kids. Maybe it was because of the adorable girls ( ages 3&6) and celebrating my granddaughters 3rd birthday but I have never ever been on a cruise where the staff was so incredibly nice and accommodating. Our room steward Paul actually understood our needs and wants (many just shake their head and smile and do not help) Not Paul he even made a cake out of towels for the birthday girl. IONELA OPRISAN was amazing with the attention he gave us...KIVANC UCAR was beyond nice. I wish I had all the other names...yes one or two were rude (towel guy) but for the most part EVERYONE was so nice. Maybe the other ships should learn a lesson from the Escape (GEM ??) No matter how good the food is ( it was on the Escape) or the shows ( great again) the spa, gym, shopping (disappointed stores on the Escape) etc it could all become a bad experience if the service is not goo (GEM again) already booked on the Bliss....can't wait thank you Escape for making our family trip a great one :) Read Less

My wife and I were looking for something special to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. Talking with family and friends about what and where to go everyone said they or someone they knew had been to Bermuda and nothing bad was ever said. So we had a place now how to get there. Our older daughter had been there last year flying in and staying a week but we were looking for something a little more relaxing. Since we have cruised before we decide to look at that and we found Norwegian fit our needs best. We booked a year in advance and had to change sailing dates due to work conflicts which was not an issue with the help of our Norwegian cruise advisor. Sailing day arrives and what excitement. Since we didn’t have to fly to NYC we used that savings to upgrade to a suite and it was worth it. Check in went smoothly and we were onboard being served lunch while the cabins were being completed. Finally got to our suite dropped off our carry on luggage then off to explore and grab a drink. The one thing that stuck with us was how polite and considerate the staff was and very helpful, you had a question you got an answer with a smile sometimes they would take us to where we wanted to go. Food need I say more, awesome! Shows were entertaining. We do want to give special props to Alvin our cruise director and his staff. They made every day and night exciting with their entertainment. We were able to have dinner with the senior officers one night which was very nice. The only down side to the cruise was getting a lounge chair at the pool. Only two days we were able to. And if you think you can get out early to put down a towel to save the chair for later we’ll the staff monitors use if unoccupied for an hour they remove the belongings. You’ ll understand when you’re trying to find a seat why they need to be vigilant about this. Bermuda itself was excellent. We booked our excursions thru the ship which is a wise move. If you have a problem you have someone to help but we didn’t have any problems just peace of mind. So if you want something special book the cruise to Bermuda on Norwegian. BTW next year 2020 they bring their newest ship to sail Bermuda. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had a limited time-frame to book and because it left out of NYC. I like that we don’t have to fly. We always park at the pier it’s $40 a day and it’s the closest parking. There are other options such as Uber and spot hero to find close parking but this works best for us. We have been to Bermuda before and we really liked it. Especially the fact the boat is in port over a 3 day period. We arrived at the pier about 11:00 and we had hardly any line to wait in. We dropped the luggage off with the porters (who work in part for tips $1-$2 a bag is standard. We wanted to avoid the craziness of the buffet for lunch so we just had some water and soft drinks in the starlight bar next to the casino because our room was not ready. Once it was we went up to the mini-suite we had bid on and won ($50) it had a larger bathroom with a multi jet larger shower and a double sink. The bed was a king (2 twins pushed together) it was not very comfy (the MSC bed was a foam bed ) very thin foam. Pillows were ok. The closet had sliding doors with several shelves (plenty of storage for 2) on one side and a bar with hangers on the other side. There is a small safe (4 digit type) in on one of the shelves. One thing we noticed was that the lights on either side of the bed had usb plugs to charge phones, iPads etc. the vanity area has two three prong plugs and one European plug. We always bring a power strip (non-powersurge type) so there are plenty of spots for us to charge things. There is a small coffee pot that uses pods, not a Keurig. They provide coffee decaf tea, cream, sugars and cups. It’s small one cup. They did away with the ice bucket and I noticed the stewards didn’t have a cooler with ice in the hall anymore. So think ahead of you want ice you have to get it from the buffet. The hair dryer is an economy type that is slow, but not having to carry one from home makes up for it. The cube stool under the vanity has a hard top that is removable and acts as a tray. We use it on the small table on the balcony. The balcony was not very large, just enough room for 2 chairs and a small metal/plastic table. The a/c turns off when the slider is open so we had to be sure the door was closed properly or the a/c wound turn off. The mini bar is not included, it’s all extra, it’s expensive. Also the bottle of water (Aquafina) with the tag is extra. It’s better to buy a water package once on board. We bought on line and it was more money. They don’t allow you to bring water or soda on board any longer. Wine may be brought on, but they charge a corkage fee (not sure how much). The ship will provide distilled water if needed for a cpap although it was difficult at first for the crew to understand what we were talking about. The vanity has a small tv with a few news channels, a movie channel and a bunch of ship channels. The TV can be used to check your account and reservations, but sometimes it takes s while for things to show up. We had s cabin on the 13th floor, sadly sandwiched between a family who were back and forth slamming the doors and yelling across our balcony. So it was noisy. The last thing about the cabin is that there is slot right inside the door that controls the power for the room. It’s designed for you to put your room key in when you come in and take it out when you leave. Any card with a magnetic strip seems to work. I used a casino card from another casino and we were able to continue charging our electronics. The ship is really beautiful and clean. The elevators are ridiculous. There are 4000 plus people and only two sets of elevators. I use the stairs most times except when I had on heels. We didn’t go to any shows, game shows or slides because the boat was absolutely packed with kids. They seemed to be running unaccompanied in packs. Dashing on the elevators knocking wine all over me, no manners. We tried to partake in some of the games offered on the boat like the ropes, bocce, mini golf and pools and hot tubs, but they were often monopolized by the kids. They also ran the halls at all hours sounding much like a stampede. The hot tubs in the adult (H20 area) were full of adults who never seemed to leave. Somehow there were kids in the grotto area too. The movies they played in h2o were kid based. I kind of felt like I was in the wrong all the time wherever I went on the boat. One thing i did for myself was book the Thermal Spa, it’s expensive $199 but it’s worth it. It has a thermal pool, hot tub, heated loungers, a snow room (-14 degrees), steam, sauna etc. they have fruit infused ice water, hot tea and oranges to snack on and the best part no kids! Don’t get me wrong I like kids, but not when they are acting like maniacs. I will never again book a cruise when kids are out of school. I learned my lesson. . NCL likes to nickel and dime its passengers and it has only gotten worse with time. We don’t eat out often so when we vacation we like to eat in the better pay restaurants. I can’t comment on taste, savor or the Manhattan room because we didn’t eat there. We went to Cagney’s (who now charges extra for shrimp cocktail) the fish restaurant (which had an up-charge on top of the dining plan and additional charge on top of that for previously killed lobster) it wasn’t good. The food was almost always cold, including the sides. Steaks were overcooked, seafood under cooked. Soups bland. Went way down hill to save a buck! The buffet is and has always been ridiculous. The food cold, mostly carbs, bland tasting. Add to that a bunch of kids dashing in and out in front of people and it was less pleasant. One good thing was the crepes station in the late afternoon/evening. Lots of topping choices, fresh made. And the omelette stations provided fresh egg options if you asked. The toasters were slow and it usually took 3 trips to toast a muffin. That is most likely because so kids don’t burn themselves (in spite of the warning signs). The few issues we had were ignored by the customer service staff who must have been at the end of their contract. They were trying sometimes, but they were tired and beat. They didn’t seem to care much. The room steward was good. Sam I think his name was, or a variation of that. He did kind of take his time with cleaning the room, and there were no towel animals. The at sea days were beautiful weather wise, but there was no getting a lounger after 10:00 am. The crew tried with the little stickers (indicating they had not seen anyone using the chair in a while) but they gave up after a day. We had better picks on shore days. Bermuda is a beautiful, friendly island, but it was crowded at the beach. We purchased two day bus/ferry passes somewhere in the $31.50 per person. We were able to go all over the island by bus and ferry to Hamilton. The bus hub was in Hamilton and all busses started out there. I think pink poles (at bus stops) brought you to Hamilton and blue poles brought you away from Hamilton. This time around we went to the small aquarium/zoo and it was (for the price) a fine way to kill two hours. NCL purchased an older high speed ferry from Block Island RI (I think I remember seeing it a few years ago before the refurbishment) and NCL uses it to bring people out to St George. It’s a nice 45 min ride. Of course the only rain we had the whole trip was just when we were heading to tobacco beach. So we went to the Fantasy Caves instead. We went to Crystal Caves last time. They were beautiful and the guide let us pose for pictures with ”Simba” which was a broken stalagmite that everyone seems to hold up the way Rafiki held up Simba in the Lion King. It was fun. We went over to the bar/restaurant The Swizzle Inn. Food was excellent. The final day we spent at the royal Naval Dockyard Shopping and having lunch at the Frog and Onion. I recommend the brisket sandwich. Then we were back on board to do as many with balcony’s do: watch the people who get back to the ship late. Read Less

AMAZING CRUISE!! The Escape is a beautiful ship, there are plenty of activities if you choose. We prefer to relax at The VIBE a private area with comfortable lounge chairs and a bar. Additional cost but well worth it. The tube slide is great for both young and old! Be sure to give it a try. We ate at all of the specialty restaurants, food choices, and service were excellent. Our favorite was La Cucina, the Burrata and Veal Osso Bucca was our all time favorite we went back twice! Crap Cake at Cagney’s and Escargot at Le Bistro were exceptional. All a must try. The only restaurant to serve lobster was Bayamo, the service was great, appetizers very good, not sure if we would go again because of all the up charges added to the dining package. The shows were excellent Choir of Men exceptional. The Supper Club offers dinner and a show. Very enjoyable! Deepak the General Manager/Hotel Director of The Escape was always around and all of the staff was very well organized under his direction. All of the staff are helpful and friendly always ready to assist in any way. If you are in the New York area, this cruise is an easy one. I especially love going under The Verrazzano Bridge. The view from the top deck was awesome! Bermuda is beautiful, plenty of things to see and do. We went to St. George, NCL provided a complimentary ferry there. There are free historical tours in St. George, Royal Dockyard and Hamilton for history fans. Other recommendations for Bermuda The beaches, The Caves, the aquarium. Love to cruise Love NCL Read Less

The ship is huge! We ate most of our meals from the buffet because it was quicker. All the food was awesome with lots of choices. There are 3 main dining rooms serving same food just different atmospheres. We didn’t go to any of the specialty restaurants because of the extra charges. The Starbucks on board was priced correctly and tasted just like my Starbucks at home. Our balcony room was roomy for 2 adults and a teenager. The room was clean and kept clean all week long. The bed was comfortable. The sun decks and pools were over crowded. People leave towels on chairs so we walked around a lot looking for a place for 3 people to sit. The hot tubs are not hot tubs. They are lukewarm so I don’t understand why they advertise they have hot tubs. Something that wasn’t well planned is they have a smoking area right by the running track and kids play area. The port of New York was easy to. We traveled Sunday to Sunday I’m sure it’s a different story during the week. Bermuda was beautiful! I loved that we docked for 2 and 1/2 days in Bermuda. We definitely will go back after we adventure to other islands first. Read Less

We were told that we couldn't go outside on deck and they still wanted to people to pay for bingo. Anyway not for me. This was the second time my family cruised with Carnival and they enjoyed the first cruise so much. The shore excursion that was booked through Carnival was also upsetting, we had to wait 45 minutes for a pre ordered van to take us to beach and it was only supposed to be my group then they let more people squeeze into van, also lost about 11/2 hour of beach time, very disappointing. I've just returned from our Carnival Sunrise Cruise. I love cruising and I've cruised many times but I was so disturbed and overwhelmed by this cruise. First off the food and crew were good. But that was about it. I was traveling with my daughter, her husband and 3 children for their first very much anticipated family cruise. First day weather was bad and all activities were closed (pools, slides, ropes, everything! My 6 year old grandson got sick and medical on board was not always open and Did Not have children's Tylenol...really? There were 2 small pools and not enough deck chairs....the six of us had to share 1 deck chair. This ship holds 3300 passengers but ship's amenities cannot accommodate them! Drinks packages, which were extra $ couldn't be used until the next day when we were in international waters. We were supposed to have the 2nd seating for dinner but upon arrival found that we had to have a reservation. Bar service was very slow. Food lines were slow, especially the pizza line...and it was hard to find a table to sit. I was looking forward to lobster and steak...but sadly this would have been more money, it wasn't included. There was a big fight that broke out with 20-30 people throwing deck chairs...there was another altercation among 3-4 men, luckily it didn't end in fist fighting. On disembarkation, the police boarded.....not what you expect! This ship is touted as the Fun Ships, but it was too darn crowded and Nothing about it was fun! Needless to say, my family will never cruise again.....I may, but definitely not on Carnival! Read Less

This was my first cruise experience. My coworkers tell me to try again, but I just can't. It was an extremely rocky ride...so I struggled. It did smell like sewage the whole time. The other guests on the cruise were rude to the workers and were beyond overwhelming. There was a fight in the eating area...which was absolutely absurd. The families on the cruise let their children run around and food was everywhere. A woman literally barged into the drink line and put her personal water container on the lip of the water to refill it for ten minutes. It was like eating at Golden Corral the whole time. I became extremely sick and spent the night in bed and going to the bathroom. I did take medicine for sea sickness...but it might have been a combination of the food, sugary alcohol drinks, rocking of the ship and the sewage smell. Leaving the ship was a nightmare. We were stuck with a 1000 other people in stairways and people started fighting. Thank God there was not a major catastrophe!! The police did board the ship in New York and take the people that were fighting. The staff were exceptional and kind. I felt so bad that they had to put up with the other guests. I would NEVER work on a cruise line. God bless them all!!! The entertainment was phenomenal, and it definitely helped me get through the weekend. There were multiple family reunions on the ship....so if I ever thought of going on one again....it would not be one with large family reunions. It was a family reunion ship where I was related to nobody and did not want to be there!!! Read Less

My in-laws booked this cruise as a family weekend getaway. From the beginning, the ship felt crowded. The lobby bar area was always very full as were quick dining locations. You could wait in line for 30-40 minutes at the food options around the main pool. We chose to eat at the restaurants on board. We were very pleased with the steakhouse, Fahrenheit 555 and the Chef‘s table. There were some rude guests on our cruise; however, the staff impressively handled these difficult situations. The cruise ship needs to update and use room key bracelets rather than the cards. It got to be insulting how many times crew members would ask you for your card and a bracelet would have been a much simpler way of scanning for drinks, towels, etc. Disembarkment was a little messy in the morning, we paid for the faster to the fun pass but had to wait 45 minutes to disembark as some of the rude guests mentioned earlier needed to be escorted off of the ship by NYPD. It would have been nice to have had them wait with NYPD on the ship so the rest of us could have left on time (my husband and I needed to go straight to work). Our cabin steward, Larson, was wonderful! He sensed our needs before we had them! The highlights of this cruise for our group were Nikola and Denis at the Alchemy Bar and Scott at the Piano Bar. Nikola was a highly knowledgeable and talented bartender, we took his mixology class on the Sunday afternoon of our cruise. You could tell that he loves what he does! Scott had us laughing and singing for hours. He had a great personality and played off of the people in the room. For adults on this cruise ship, I recommend using the Serenity area of the deck (quieter, just get there early for a daybed). Overall, I think that the best way to do this cruise is to pay extra for the better dining options and to spend your time at the Alchemy Bar and Piano Bar. Read Less

Our 5th cruise. 1st with Carnival (3 NCL, 1 RCCL). 1st with kids (ages 11 and 13). We chose the cruise because the length was good for the kids, we hadn't been to Bermuda, leaving from NY was easier than flying to FL, and the Sunrise had recently undergone a $200M refurbishment. Embarkation: Cruise port was relatively easy to get to. Parking was right next to the ship. Definitely older than port facilities in Miami; less high tech experience, but lines weren't bad. View of the city on the way out was a really nice highlight. Statue of Liberty, Empire State, 1 WTC, etc. Room: Standard balcony room. Just like others we have had on other ships. Standard bathroom. USB outlets on headboard were a nice touch. Good storage space. Tasteful decor. Bathroom standard; not used to shower curtain vs shower door but no issues. Crew: Friendly but not outgoing. Were hardly greeted entering the ship. No one greeted us when we entered the buffet. No "washy, washy!" In fact, no one on the ship offered us hand sanitizer; not once. This is a real surprise and something that concerned us a bit. Bartenders were a bit slow, but not unacceptably so. We saw our cabin steward several hours after boarding. He had us sign a paper stating when we wanted the room cleaned. We didn't see him again until the obligatory goodbye around tip time. Room was made up once a day. If we took an afternoon nap, the bed wasn't remade in the evening. That said, several staff members were very kind to us. Our waiter quickly learned the kids' names and remembered them when he saw them at a different time in a different part of the ship. I saw another crew member assisting a mom whose child was seasick, which was nice. Food: Buffet was average; not as much selection as we are used to. Main Dining Room fare was also standard; nothing to rave about, but no complaints. Other free restaurants - Guy's Burgers, Guy's BBQ, Blue Iguana, deli, and pizza place were all quite good. We didn't eat in any of the specialty restaurants. Crowds: Crowd flow was poor. In trying to update the ship and add more stuff, they've created a number of bottlenecks. There was always a line for food. They couldn't make pizzas fast enough. All of the buffet items are in a row, so you have to get in a line and go through everything just to get one item. Individual stations would be much more efficient. In addition, there are so many food places on the Lido deck that it seems like one continuous line, particularly when combined with crowded pool and bar areas. Entertainment: Pretty good. We went to see a band play rock/pop hits a few times and they were quite good. Kids liked Hasbro Game Night. PG rated comedy acts were both funny. We liked the vibe at Red Frog Pub, including the little game room in the back. Disembarkation: Terrible. Not enough to ruin the cruise, but it does end it on a down note. They ask you to wait in your state room until they call your deck. I don't think people listened. We did but even then, we got our bags down from Deck 7 to Deck 5 and then had to wait in a mass of people to get down the stairs to Deck 3 for at least an hour if not more. Balancing heavy bags on narrow stairs with hundreds of irritated people and restless kids was not fun. They need to fix this ASAP. Thankfully we didn't have a flight to catch. Overall: A good time, but don't let the $200M in upgrades fool you into thinking the Sunrise is the equivalent of one of the newer megaships. It's solid and standard but by no means spectacular. I don't see us taking the Sunrise again unless the itinerary and the price were too good to pass up. We're even a little skeptical of Carnival. Again, no major negatives, but we felt other cruiselines did it better. Read Less

I actually won this cruise on the Today Show. Was so excited, but let down afterwards!!! The ship was so crowded, the pools are extremely small, Buffet lines are ridiculous, the ship is chopped up and hard to navigate to all the venues. You have to walk through a Smokey Casino to get to most Venues. The Entertainment was mediocre at best. What topped it off was my IPAD being stolen from my cabin and they won't reimburse me. I've sent them several emails and they say they can't find it. It was definitely stolen!! I never used it because the wifi was so bad!! I had left it in my carry-on and never checked my bag again until I got home. I will never cruise Carnival again!! The Positives: My Stateroom was spacious, bathroom was a nice size. The food was OK but not enough places to eat during the day like other cruise lines. Such a Disappointment!!!!!!! Read Less

We selected this cruise for a newer ship and all the perks received. We had the unlimited beverage package, 3 free nights in specialty restaurant, and OBC. The ship was spotless, great friendly service and crew in all areas. After Midnight and Choir of Men were exceptional, make sure to make reservations for both. We were pleased with food in all areas. The only complaint - we were billed for 4 people in Margaritaville, when it was only for 2 - my wife and myself. I saw this on TV - went to guest services, and the correction was made. We are Royal Caribbean and Celebrity fans, but cruise NCL also since out of NYC and no flying - and additional perks. We are booked on Dawn for October - hope service and food is just as good. Also, one really nice feature that is not offered on all cruise lines - we had a relaxing lunch in MDR - great service and avoided the craziness of buffet on embarkation day - wish more lines would adopt this policy. Till we were done with lunch cabins were just about ready. Read Less

I adore some of the staff on this ship and I struggled as to whether to give this five stars but in the end I decided I need to raise it as a concern simply because it happened literally every single time I sat down for a meal as a solo and I hope they make adjustments. In no way will this review impact my decision to sail with them again. Embarkation was awesome. No delays at all, very short wait. I boarded around 1 and decided to go to one of the dining rooms for lunch. I was seated very quickly and ordered a bloody mary with horse radish. I got a bloody mary without the horseradish but they brought me an entire ramekin full of it. I just cannot imagine that anyone would think a person could possibly want or need that much in a drink but since I didn't have the drink package I didn't do anything other than put a small amount in my glass. The meal was good as was all of the food I ate in the dining room although I will do a deep dive on the service shortly. I loved my studio cabin and I loved the studio lounge. I did not love 5PM solo get together and 5:30 dinner because that's too early for me but that is not a negative as some want to get a meal out of the way so they can focus on other things. Solomon was awesome as a host and I hope to see him again on another ship in the future. Many thanks for the chocolate covered strawberries sent to my cabin.Without a doubt, the best ones I've ever had. Since I did not have the alcohol package I opted to buy the six bottles of wine package. I was surprised to find out that this meant that when I asked for a bottle they'd bring it to me, open it, pour a glass, leave the cork on the table and walk away. YES, this was epic. That meant I could take the bottle with me anywhere and no matter where I went (I didn't take it with me up on the pool deck so this would be limited to decks 6-8) the bartenders brought me a glass when I asked (had they offered to pour for me I would have tipped them). I was very happy to have a bottle to bring back to my cabin and even happier I could walk down the hall, down a flight of stairs to get a glass of water/ice anytime I wanted. Brilliant, don't ever change the concept of the studios. The only time I would not want to do one is on a transatlantic or where the weather could be rocky. I don't get seasick but I'd like to have the option of sitting out on the waterfront. My cabin steward was good, very personable and having asked for ice to put the champagne on once, he made sure every single day to replace it. Unfortunately I never had the right opportunity to drink it (see above) so hopefully he was able to find another crew member who could enjoy it. So now that brings me to the single diner. When you are seated at the complimentary tables, you are given a menu and someone will ask if you want water/juice. As a solo, when the waiter/waitress comes over to take your meal they don't introduce themselves as they do at other tables (there's a million hours of video tape available to back this up) they just say "Hello, are you ready to order". If it's dinner, you tell them what you want for an appetizer, and what you want for your main course. They bring out from the kitchen two plates. Both are covered. They present you with the first and walk away. They (and their assistant) may tend to other tables but they do notice when you are done and voila they take your plate away and simultaneously put your entree down. That's very efficient for them, trying to get you, the single diner out of the dining room, but that doesn't help if you are the type who wants to dine slowly. After I experienced that once I told them before I ordered to NOT bring out both plates at once and when I saw they brought two plates on the tray the next night I told them point blank I would not accept that second plate and to send it back. Maybe it was a language barrier, maybe it was because they thought I was in a hurry but that's not how one should "dine". Maybe I am just picky and perhaps other people who are alone just want to get it over with but I would rather have someone ask me if I need anything else while I'm eating or just let me enjoy my meal and treat me as if I'm as important as if I were part of a group of 8. So while I did not enjoy the dining aspect, the entertainment was awesome. So very excited about Choir of Man. I don't know why more people don't go see After Midnight but that was awesome. I loved meeting members of management around the ship. Maybe I should have told them how single travelers are treated but quite honestly I needed to see it three times to be able to say this is the instruction they are giving! I'm not sure why but they are because they all served me identically. Read Less

Have sailed on all of the major lines but never a ship of this size. Although the crew was pleasant and responsive the experience seemed impersonal due to the large number of passengers they had to deal with. The buffet food was fair, restaurants much better. Teppanyake specialty restaurant had the best food; quality and quantity, but prepare for an entertaining and loud performance by chefs preparing your meal. My balcony cabin was good size, clean and well maintained. Disappointed in the public areas; seemed in the attempt to make areas more intimate they felt small and cut up. Biggest disappointment was the lack of a grand and elegant open lobby most ships, especially of this size, boast. Mid ship is an attractive glass staircase but due to the fact it was open to the casino an awful stench of stale cigarette smoke infiltrated all three decks adjacent to it. I'll sail again with NCL but not this ship. Read Less

We wanted to take our grandchildren, ages 5 and 9, to Bermuda as we can take the train to New York City. We had a family suite booked, but were offered the chance to bid on a Haven suite and I bid on the Aft Penthouse Suite and got it. From the moment we stepped into the terminal, everything went so smoothly. The check-in process was a breeze, very fast and efficient. Our suite was ready when we got on board so after a light snack in the Haven lounge, we settled in. We were in Suite 11912--living room, dining area, two baths, bedroom, and huge balcony. It was great for the four of us. The largest bathroom was particularly luxurious. We had a butler who brought snacks every day and served us dinner in the stateroom one evening and breakfast another day. Musa was excellent. We don't normally take in the shows and entertainment, but we enjoyed the lounge in The Haven and the kids loved the pool there. They also used the Splash Zone area, but enjoyed the more private pool more. We enjoy Bermuda and we have been there four times now. We had a glass-bottom boat tour scheduled, but it was canceled due to the weather. We took a cab to Horseshoe Bay Beach on our own ($32) and took a mini bus back ($7/person). It's a lovely beach and was not overly crowded the day we were there as the weather was a little iffy with rain off and on. We were very happy with The Haven. The wait staff in the dining room quickly got to know the kids and their preferences. The food was excellent and the service was also excellent. We ate most of our meals in The Haven dining room. The kids were always able to get into the pool. Our suite was not directly in The Haven, so we walked the length of the ship whenever we wanted to use their facilities, which we did often, but for us that was fine. Our grandkids were thrilled with the ship, particularly The Haven. My granddaughter has been on a cruise to Bermuda once before with us in a regular cabin, so she really understood the differences being in The Haven. We have probably spoiled our grandson forever with The Haven! Embarkation was very easy, but we really appreciated the private escort off the ship for disembarkation. We had a terrible experience leaving the ship on our last Bermuda cruise, so this was wonderful. We absolutely loved being in The Haven and will be looking at other destinations in this category suite. And that;s saying a lot for us as we don;t like ships this big (we usually cruise on Viking). We had an amazing time on the Escape. My first time on Breakaway Plus. I absolutely love the Getaway. I have to admit I do think the Getaway was the nicer ship. I noticed the Escape did feel a bit more crowded than the Getaway even though the Getaway was at max capacity and the Escape was not. We had a great time. Really good food and the Art Auctions are always a highlight for me. We really enjoyed the Manhattan Room. We did not go to the Buffet really at all. We loved that Taste and Savor were open every day for Breakfast and Lunch since we tried to avoid the crazy buffet. We got a nice inside cabin on deck 14. We were right next to the Elevators so it did get noisy at times. Overall we really had a great experience on the Escape and would certainly go again. In terms of Bermuda it was my second time there and it was once again really amazing. Horseshoe Bay Beach is definitely not to be missed. Tobacco Bay also is amazing. The Crystal Caves were really great as well. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to price, destination and inclusion of airfare to/from New York. The cruise was to Bermuda with a three day porting. The excursions were good. The mini suite should titled as a balcony room because it was not any sort of a suite. Cabin and balcony very cramped. The main floor (6th) with the Customer Service, Shore Excursions, Next Cruise, and Internet were all cramped into a small area with a very loud venue right next to them. It was so loud a person could not hear any of the personnel at any of the services counters. In addition, directly down the hall was the open cigar lounge that permeated the entire floor. And further down the hall was several of the up class dining areas that were directly under a open casino and the cigarette smoke was also permeating the area. Totally unpleasant unless you enjoy the smell of cigars and cigarettes. Too congested and smelly. The Spa and their personnel were nice but very aggressive in selling their oils and herbs. The coffee bars advertised having Chia Tea Lattes but neither had any and personnel seemed offended that I even asked for one. No caffeinated teas on the ship so if you don't drink coffee, which I don't, you are in for caffeine withdrawal. The dining on the ship was good but again no caffeinated teas were available. We enjoyed Cagney's steakhouse and it was very good. The Japanese hibachi restaurant was also very good and entertaining. The bar service was slow and one drink we received had no alcohol in it, only the mixer. I did not enjoy the entertainment as it was not entertaining. Just loud. The activities were not well advertised and changed without any notice. The shopping aboard was poor and sale times were changed without notice. The pool area was very crowed and difficult to get lounge chairs. The only thing really good about the ship is that they had the disembarkation down. Easy to get off of ship without having to deal with the usual crowds at Customs. I will not cruise NCL again. I do not have any photos of the cruise ship because I did not see anything worth photographing aboard ship. One does not want to photograph unpleasant memories. Read Less

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my Norwegian cruises except for my recent one week June cruise (June 2019) roundtrip from New York City to Bermuda. The cruise was aboard the Norwegian Escape. I was shocked by how poorly designed the ship was for over 4000 people and how unfriendly some of the staff was. I have been on large ships (4000+) of two other cruise lines -- Princess and MSC. These ships were comfortable and could easily accommodate all of the passenger. HOWEVER, THE NORWEGIAN ESCAPE WAS FILLED WITH CRAMPED AND UNCOMFORTABLE SPACES AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH STAFF TO PROPERLY HANDLE ALL OF THE PASSENGER. The Design of the Escape First of about the cabin. I have never had such a small balcony cabin on any ship that I have ever been on. The cabin was long and narrow -- Not really enough space to easily move around the cabin. There was insufficient storage for clothes so we had to keep some of our things in our suitcases. The bathroom was a comfortable size, but I would have accepted a smaller bathroom to have increased living area. The balcony was the smallest I ever stepped foot on. The lounges and bar areas were extremely small and some were oddly shaped so that patrons could not view the stage entertainment from where they were seated. The pool area was small and the pools were small as well. The whole area was cramped and because of upper decks, we felt like we were surrounded by skyscrapers which blocked most of the sun. The gym area not only was not tiny with insufficient equipment for 4000 guests,, but also did not have showers, saunas, and only had single patron washrooms. I could go on, but I think I have given you a good idea of why we will never go on the Escape or other Breakaway class ships of Norwegian Cruise Lines. The Staff The Guest Services Staff, the Casino Staff, and the Future Cruise Consultants made excuses about problems rather than being helpful. Many times they were very defensive about what had happened. Just one example. The Casino occasionally gave Canadian and Bermudian money in change when casing a ticket for a guest. They have given me 80 cents -- 60 cents Canadian and 10 cents US. When I returned to the Casino cashier, she denied that they had given me the change. Guest Services was no help either. So I returned to the Casino staff and argued my case. Eventually they gave me 70 cents for the Canadian and kept the Bermudian dime. Housekeeping was not responsive to us at all. When we requested that our towels be replaced, they said they would. We contacted them a second time. However, we had to go to Guest Services in person to request towels. We tried to call Guest Services and they never answered the phone for us. Our Cabin steward was lackadaisical. This cruise was the first time that we did not give our cabin steward an extra tip. However, the serving staff in the restaurants and in the buffet were absolutely excellent. The food was very good. Bermuda was great as well. The only positive things about the cruise. Overall, the cruise ship and staff were a disappointment and I will avoid Norwegian's larger ships. Read Less

We had an excellent time on this cruise. I cruised with my husband and three daughters and my parents. The best part about this itinerary is that they spend 3 days in Bermuda, which allows you to do more on the island. Cruise Terminal: This ship left out of the Manhatten Cruise Terminal and I would suggest that if you are planning on cruising out of this terminal that you research where you are going to park ahead of time. there is parking at the terminal but it is expensive. $40 a day. We researched ahead of time and found a parking garage within only a few blocks from the terminal for half that price. Embarkation: Boarding the ship was relatively smooth. There was a long line but it moved quickly and the staff checking people in was efficient. Ship: The ship is huge. This was our fifth cruise with Norwegian and the layout was identical to their other large ships in the fleet such as the Breakaway, Bliss and Getaway. The ship was very nice and clean. Certain areas tended to get congested such as the Garden Café, and the theaters during show time. The Escape has waterslides, a ropes coarse, plank and mini golf, in front of Spice H2O there is the grotto with a waterfall area you can walk through. The pool area fills up quickly, two of the days we were not able to find a lounge chair that was empty. Get there early if you want a chair especially on sea days. For the shows we watched Choir of Man, which was outstanding, if you do nothing else, you must see this show, and we watched After Midnight which was also very well done. The only specialty restaurant we did was Teppanaki which was amazing. As soon as you set foot on the ship book your shows and restaurants right away, if you wait then everything will be booked out on the first day. Cabin: We had 2 adjoining rooms that were interior rooms on the 13th deck. It's nice and quiet up there. My kids were in one room and my husband and I were in the other one. Before this cruise we had always done a balcony but I was impressed with the interior room. Still enough space and it was cozy. The only thing I was unhappy with was the cabin steward. He took our pool towels and never replaced them and he lost our laundry, it ended up being found later that day. Aside from that, the rest of the service was off the chart. Bermuda: Bermuda is a great destination. It's such a beautiful island with the most stunning beaches I have ever seen. The one thing I will say is that it is extremely expensive. I forgot to pack sunscreen and when I bought it there it was $18.You will save a ton of money if you go back to the ship to eat all your meals. the first day we did an island tour that lasted 3 hours. This was a great way to get oriented with where everything was on the island. We also did snorkel park beach which is s short walk from the ship. No waves so it is great for children and you can rent kayak's and snorkel gear, and they have a beach bar. On day 2 we did a catamaran swim and snorkel. This was the highlight of the trip. They take you out to a reef a few miles away and you have 3 hours to snorkel in no more than 15ft of water. Snorkel gear is provided, along with kayak's and paddleboards. There is a bar on the boat and you get a free rum swizzle. It was great. For beaches we went to Horseshoe Bay which is a must see, it is beautiful and Tobacco Bay in the town of St. George, another beautiful beach with no waves and good snorkeling. Dining: We only ate at one speciality restaurant and it was Teppanyaki. All the food in the complimentary dining rooms was excellent. Overall we had a great time and would go again. Read Less
