Family friendly and to try a new cruise line . What we got was the rudest most unhelpful staff I have ever seen in the 15+ years of cruising. The dinning was average and again “couldn’t care less type of attitude “ Nobody seemed to know what was going on and never got the same answer twice. We had a tight connection and wanted to know how long roughly it would take to leave the ship with our own bags and was told the immigration could be slow and on leaving the ship there was no immigration! The cabin was average but what tipped my wife over the edge was no tissues in the bathroom. She was told it was because we didn’t have a higher enough grade balcony!!!! Staff had a poor command of English and didn’t know what was going on . Overall very disappointing and will never travel with them again. Read Less

Here are some example: - my daughter found a metal tack in her chicken, their only reaction was to replace the chicken lno other excuse, letter of excuse - the bar by the pool is often out of cold draft beer, if you want a beer you need to buy bottle more expensive - the buffer is only offering water and coffee, juice is only available during the breakfast - restaurant and bar often out of sodas - have to wait to get out of the ship (docked) because only one exit is open or because the decide to put everyone on hold the exist excursion using the same exit at the same time This cruise was my u in e yeard and 3 rd with msc.... Food and Drinks The whole dining experience was a disaster, and is the main reason that trigger me to write this review. The MSC website boasts a "12 distinct VENUES". Go on board and you'll find out that 3~4 of these VENUES serve exactly the same food, but just that the name of the restaurants are different. Some are even right next to each other, but use different names. Now we know why they use the word VENUE, clever! Specialty restaurants: As soon as we boarded we bought a package to dine in 4 different specialty restaurants, it was 115 Euros total. We soon found out that the package means eating the set menus at each restaurants and that we could just walk into any specialty restaurant without a package and pay the price of set menu. A set menu usually means 3 course with very limited options to choose from. At the end of the four days we were very disappointed to find out that the values of all four set menu added together was only about 7 euros more than 115 euros that we had purchased our package for. Specialty restaurant 1 (Bistrot): The waiter obviously had no training as he spilled wine everywhere on the table while pouring. Every single glass he poured he spilled. The decor looked cheap. Set menu options very limited as compared to a la carte. Specialty restaurant 2 (Butcher's Cut): Everything was great. Specialty restaurant 3 (Japanese): The set menu comprised of around 9 items. First came the miso soup and the appetizer. Then the food stopped, and we had to wait 40 minutes for the next dish. Items 2~8 came together in one platter. We almost missed our Cirque du Soleil show. The food was mediocre, it was just a western version of Japanese food using disposable chopsticks. The waiter asked for our room numbers and he entered it into the machine, but it didn't work so he asked again our numbers. This process repeated 3 times. Had he asked one more time I should've probably write it big and clear on my forehead. Specialty restaurant 4 (Tapas): We were given an a la carte menu as usual, but this time it got 10 times more complicated for ordering a set menu. There were around 30 items total on the menu, but only around half can be ordered if you are on the set menu. The tricky part was that the menu didn't indicate which ones can be ordered and which ones not. So the waiter had to point them out again and again. On Board activities Perhaps it was our own lack of experience, but after seeing the promotional video on Belissima with the water slides, bowlings, F1 sitimulators, and all the cool activities, we somehow thought that all these were supposed to be free. - The jacuzzis were always packed, even on a non-sea day. - The gyms had no yoga classes that we wanted to go. Service & Staff Waiters are generally not friendly. Room stewards are much more friendly. Ship design and cleaniness It is a very nice new ship and well designed with high techs. Would have been 5 stars but on the main public deck (Promenade deck), the walkaway is quite narrow for a ship with 4000 passengers. On top of that they place photo shoot stands, tables selling perfumes, etc. to block the way and make the main walkaway even narrower. This especially affected the speed people disperse after a show finish. I guess making money out of photo shoot and perfume is much more important to MSC. Cabin Our cabin was right under the buffet area and the sound of people moving chairs was very very loud. The sound could have been much reduced had they put softer rubber paddings on all chairs. At night when the buffet chairs were silent, things were even worse... The cabin had this constant high pitch plastic or wood crackling sound everywhere. It was even worse in our relative's room. Review summary We were excited and overjoyed the moment we got on this stunning new ship as we saw the glamorous high tech interior. This was our second time cruising, with the first being in Alaska with HAL line 'Noordam', but the ship was very old and even had CRT TV in each cabin. However, we had a very enjoyable time on it and so we decided to cruise again, this time choosing a newer ship the MSC Bellissima, what could go wrong? Unfortunately, over the course of 7 days on the Bellissima we felt that MSC puts a higher priority on making more money out of guests in every way rather than making guests happy so they would come back again. For example: - Staffs would hard sell packages, souvenirs, lemon cello, photo shoots, etc. every chance they see you. - Basically apart from buffet, main dining rooms, shows, otherwise nothing is free. Even water is 3 euros/liter and guests are technically not allowed to take water with our own bottles in the water dispensers in the buffet area. - It is written by MSC that tipping to individual staffs is 'discouraged', and that tips are encouraged to be tipped to the company as a whole. After getting to know MSC's mentality we suspect that this was so that they could keep those tips and never pay it down to the staffs. Read Less

Quick background - we are a couple who have cruised 6 times over the last 2 years. Not the most seasoned cruisers but have some experience of cruising with different lines. We decided to take the leap from mid sized ships to bigger ones with MSC as they offer yacht club, which we felt would be a good way to combine a big ship with some familiarities of a smaller vessel, as well as indulging in the luxury service YC offers. Embarkation was great. We were taken personally by a butler to the YC check in area and given Prosecco to drink. We were then escorted straight to our cabin (YC suite) by a butler who also introduced us to the staff on the concierge desk. The cabin was lovey. More a junior suite than a suite of rooms as we’ve had on other lines, but very well furnished. The only snags would be the wardrobe being quite small for two people and the balcony being quite small also. However this did not distract from how nice the room and shower room were. We also had a complimentary mini bar and a bottle of procecco on arrival in the room. This has to be the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The ship it’s self is a sight to behold. Absolutely amazing. Think Swarovski Crystal stairs and LED ceilings that show different images during the day. The YC private sun deck was very nice as was the private lounge bar for YC guests. The physical product that MSC offer was brilliant. However the service provided by the majority of staff was a massive problem. We had chosen to book several meals and drinks packages before travel. This allowed us to get the dates that we wanted in advance (NYE being one of them) for specialty meals. One of those we booked was the Cirque du Soleil meal and show. When we arrived we had a note in our cabin asking us to visit guest services to confirm our reservation for this meal. As we were in the YC we were able to go to our concierge desk rather than wait as guest services (the queue at guest services was at times 1hour long!). The concierge explained that anything in terms of meals booked on the website never transfers to their system and that’s why we had to see them. She emailed the cirque to confirm our choice of date. We decided to check that our other reservations were in place. She said no and that for those we would need to go over to Eataly and speak to the manager who would confirm them all in one place. We went to Deck 6 where Eataly was and tried to get the attention of the manager who was chatting with some Italian guests. He proceeded to ignore us for several minutes before we decided to interrupt his conversation. We explained the situation and he didn’t reply but waved another memeber of staff over who couldn’t even speak English. He didn’t have a clue what we wanted to after 10 minutes of trying to explain using hand gestures we gave up and went back to the concierge. The concierge said the reason for not being able to get it sorted was we ‘had gone to the wrong Eataly’ and it was our own fault. She said we needed to go and find the other Eataly and they would sort it. At this point we asked if she could sort it for us. She agreed, although did not seem happy about it and said she would email the bookings to us. She also explained that our booking for the chefs table wouldn’t be available for NYE as we had booked for. She also spotted our premium drinks package and said ‘I don’t know why you bought that as you’re YC and get it anyway’ . No offer of a refund. It was at this point we realised that the bottle of champagne and souvenir flutes we had booked for sail away had not been delivered. She again told us that this is because their system has never worked but she could sent it over for another day. This set the tone for the rest of the service recieved. •in the YC bar we were often ignored and found it easier to just go to the bar our selves rather than wait for a waiter. One who did come came back to us 4 times to confirm our drinks order of ‘Diet Pepsi and a white wine’. The same waiter slammed our drinks down and began shouting at another member of staff •when coming back on board from one of the ports the staff ignored us and we calling each other profanities very loudly •walking through deck 6 was an obstacle course of people selling you meals and drinks packages •we asked our concierge to change one of our meal bookings over one night as we’d had a long day and fancied something quieter than the cirque show we’d booked. He shouted at us over the phone saying that he couldn’t do that as it was ‘too complicated’. When pressured by us to sort it he said he would but in future could we ‘not change our minds as it’s awakward’ for him and that he’d struggled to get us a table in the other resturant (which ironically was very quiet anyway!) Food. •Generally the food was poor quality. The food served in the YC resturant was the same at lunchtime as in the buffet (not the gourmet experience the website promised). •The steak in the butchers cut was very good, but at a premium. •The buffet was a feeding frenzy with people grabbing food and pushing and shoving. There was inadequate seating available for the volume of guests. It was very very very loud in here, we didn’t go back after the first time! •When booking we were advised that we could dine anytime at any of the included resturants across the ship. However this was no longer the case and we could only dine in YC, premium resturants or the buffet. Other guests who were not YC were subjected to strict dining times in a set resturant - if they were 15 minutes late for their time they would not be allowed in. •unlike other lines you will not see officers around the ship and the manangement team do not interact with guests, passing you to a more junior memeber of staff Around the ship •Astheically the ship is lovely. However the public areas do not seem to cope very well with the volume of passengers during the winter season. Everywhere is loud. There was a DJ playing above the shopping arcade at the same time as a Zumba class happening at the bar a few meters away. •the Swarovski stairs are amazing, however you probably won’t be able to use them as the ships photographers use them for private photo shoots with people lying down on them posing •on day one I thought there was a queue to meet and greet the captain. It was very long. It was actually the queue for guest services for people complaining •staffing ratios do not seem very high. At the amusement arcade there was one person running the sports court, bowling alley, f1 simulators and the flight simulator. We had a go on the flight sim and had to wait ten minutes when it finished for the memeber of staff to let us out. We had to wait in a pitch back sealed pod! We even pressed the emergency button as we’d waited so long!!! •the safety drill was the most unusual experience ever. We were all asked to meet in the theatre. Given an demonstration in 5 languages as to how to put the life vest on and then group by group taken to different muster stations across the ship. We were group A so after everyone had left we were told in 5 languages that the theatre was our muster station and we could go. Surely they could have told us this at the start and saved us a 45 minute wait?? Bottom line This ship was on the whole not for us. It is loud and difficult to relax in. You could be sat eating a meal at the butchers cut to be interrupted for 10 minutes by animated dinsours fighting and roaring on the LED screen for a ‘show’. However we do appreciate that some people enjoy that kind of holiday. However, had the service and food been better we would have made the best. Instead we were treated like an inconvenience and told off by so called ‘concierges’ and ‘butlers’. We told the YC director that we were planning to leave the next day and he apologiesed but didn’t offer to rectify any of the issues we had raised. The next day he was genuinely surprised that we had booked flights home and said he thought we would have reconsidered - why? Nothing had been changed. All the bookings we had made online were still messed up. The food was still rubbish and staff still rude. And even our newspaper delivered on the last day was wrong. We decided our time was more valuable that the money we had already spent and we would have a happier new year at home where at least we don’t get told off and can relax. This ship is due to move over to serve the American market this year. I cannot see Americans who are used to and expect a high level of service tolerating what MSC offer on this ship. We have been offered no compensation or reimbursement for the services we paid for in advance that we did not revcieve. Read Less

We chose this for our honeymoon. Our group includes our 80 year old mothers. I’m struck by the sheer overcrowded, impersonal, iPad and upsell-driven process we are a part of. Food areas and common areas are ridiculously overcrowded, no seating available and long queues for lukewarm and very ordinary food-we cruise a lot, this is way below par on many levels. The ship itself is impressive, and I’m sure few would deny this, the experience though is far from relaxing. Cabins small, we have a balcony cabin with the Aurea package, TV impossible to see from the bed, we have no sofa, nor mirror in our cabin (bar the bathroom). I believe we have seen our cabin attendant once. We found that the staff are undertrained in general, they work too many hours and are tired and overstretched as they have traded opulence of ship and taken away any form of personal experience, just doesn’t feel special in any way and it’s a fight to get service-I requested a tray to carry food to my mother who is disabled, and was told to make several trips with plates instead, each time fighting my way back through infeasible crowds. Not a patch on other similar priced cruise experiences I’ve had. Read Less

We were ill for several weeks after the cruise. Our stomach problems really stared on the plane after leaving the ship on the last day. We had only eaten on-board while on the cruise. We are convinced that we caught a bug whilst on board. After 3 Visits to the doctors my wife now seems to be a lot better but still has stomach problems. We were contacted by a passenger stayed on the ship for a further week after us. This was her comments:- There were lots of people on the ship (passengers and crew) with low-grade food poisoning but the medical team and ship were misreporting it so they would not be investigated by the port authorities. Whole tables were having problems -7 out of 8 on our table with just my partner being OK. The last 2 days they actually started taking action and cleaning handrails, enforcing the hand gel when going into the restaurants and when getting on the ship. The cruise was bad. The cabin was so narrow that to get into bed we had to bend down and shuffle sideways, it was not comfortable at all. The passengers on board were mainly Italian. We had been on board only an hour when this middle aged Italian ran into my wife almost knocking her over. If you used the lifts you had to fight your way out as the other passengers would rush into the lifts giving you no chance to get out. The quality of the food was very poor. The main restaurant was OK if all you wanted was pizza, pasta or burgers. The formal restaurant was slightly better but the portions were poor and the preparation variable. I asked for a medium steak but it arrived raw inside. After sending it back twice I gave up. The staff were generally polite but I heard reports of someone swearing at a passenger and the waiting staff having a “bun fight” during dinner one night. When we arrived back in the UK we spoke to friends of ours that had been on a different MSC cruise shortly before and they state that they would never go on another. We went to see customer services on the last night. The fist girl I spoke to was very polite and friendly. She told me I would have to speak to a manager who was very impolite and so was his manager, all they did was quote company policy and were not interested in sorting our problem out. The ship was terrible. Passengers were allowed to smoke in the bar area even though there was an enclosed smoking area next to the bar. On arriving back I tried to contact MSC customer services, only to be told that I could not speak to anyone, they only responded to email. I sent an email, which was returned days later because I had not used the correct customer services address. I had to send it again. Why the person could not have forwarded my email I do not know. I received a reply back to say they would contact me within 28 days. I did not receive an email for over a month. I truly believe that any company that only deals with emails for customer services and sets a response date of a month, do not really care about customers. Never again MSC. Read Less

£3700 pounds for a nightmare , dirty tables Full lifts Staff English very limited Everyone using the wheelchair and pram entrance so my children were irritable waiting over an hour to board . Some staff were great and some terrible , the better ones in the paying restraunts . If your thinking of travelling mainly Italians and announcements are mainly in other languages other than English . Buffet most days clear your own table before sitting like a zoo. The ship is very attractive however the staff are the ones that can make or break your stay . The rooms very clean and attendant was polite . Waiters in main restraint were great . If MSC said I’ll give you a £1000 cruise voucher to a future cruise I would decline. I blame the ships management as moral seems an all time low . Especially avoid this cruise if you are from the uk and have children as the kids club speak little English and focus more on there own spoken language . The excursion from the port to Marseille is charged by Msc however there’s a free shuttle so they will have you over for this. Read Less

The food is terrible. Little choice and cheap quality ingredients used and cooked badly - often overcooked. Food left over is rehashed into different dishes next day, for example leftover roast beef becomes sliced beef in gravy next day. I noticed food and drink is rationed in a subtle way for example in the breakfast cereals there are (cheap quality) corn flakes, rice crispies etc and muesli and when (little bowl) of muesli runs out during service it is not replenished forcing remaining diners to have corn flakes or rice crispies. Same with drinks first glass decent measure, second smaller. Ship claims to run out of certain wines, then has them again next day. Some things like bananas are only offered once a week. Meal in Tex Mex awful, ordered sirloin steak on second day of cruise - told they were sold out! Had fillet steak - terrible unseasoned overcooked and served with iceberg lettuce Not Tex Mex! Meal in etoile, where Yacht Club members dine (70 eur) also bad, 3 tiny pieces of meat. More like a ferry than a cruise with the ship picking up and dropping passengers and ports and safety drill in Seven languages interrupting evenings social life take ages. Shop and reception staff are rude and unhelpful. A million miles away from any other cruise experience we’ve had on P&O, Cunard and Celebrity. MSC have started sailing from Southampton and I suggest any UK person to avoid and not be taken in by advertising hype. This cruise line has a lot to learn. Read Less

I am currently a passenger on the MSC Meraviglia. My wife and I are passengers on a Mediterranean cruise.I can honestly say that this past week I experienced the worst of over 35 cruises I have enjoyed. The ship is not geared for the American audience. For example coffee or tea after dinner is an extra. The MSC line nickel and dime you whenever possible. On several days I had to wait 45 minutes to get back onto the ship. When I asked to speak to the head of security, I received the run around. I am still ,after several days and asking to speak to someone waiting to hear from any personal. The food on this ship is sub par as opposed to all the other cruises I have been on. It is so bad that my wife and I are going to pass our normal dinner seating and opt for pizza. If you are are from the US you will quickly realize the poor quality and treatment passengers receive on this ship. I notified them in advance that it was our anniversary and not so much as a balloon was placed on the door. Please note I offered to pay for the anniversary addition. It leaves a lot to be desired. If you want to go away and lose weight then this is the cruise for you. The food is literally no better than 1 star. Staff service is ok but ignore the staff to customer ratio half of them obviously missed the ship, takes ages to get served, a lot quicker getting yourself. We've both had upset stomachs . Ok the cabin not bad, ship tidy, what they don't tell you in the luxury cruise brochure is they let 3rd class citizens on at various ports for a stay at next to nothing to make up the numbers. When you work hard all year and book a luxury cruise one expects to eat well, get top service and relax with like minded people. That not going to happen with this cruise liner company. The worst part is constantly being sniped at with hidden charges, maybe we should have read the small print but when you pay for all inclusive including food and drinks package one doesn't expect to pay for bottled water, orange juice and the like. They also force a daily service charge per person on you. VERY VERY dissapointed. 1 star rating I'm afraid. Read Less

We had hoped MSC might be a good alternative cruise line, after dozens of cruise with others. IT IS NOT. The ship was lovely and accommodations fine, but there is simply NO service on the ship. Staff were untrained in basics (like where the knife and fork go on the table, for instance). Staff were uninterested in helping passengers in any way. Food was terrible, meager and boring...and they literally make you buy water to drink with your meals. The buffet was repetitive and tasteless, and the environment filthy. Passengers were down right rude, and staff completely unhelpful. We removed all tips from our bill as no one deserved any. (Although the cabin steward was very good overall). There is no comparison to any American cruise lines, except to say that compared to MSC even the worst ones seem elegant. What a disappointment. It is worthless to try to get concerns taken seriously with MSC. Read Less

Excursions are very expensive and not good organised, to get on and off the boat it is a war, a fight to be the first ! Dining is like a hundreds of hungry pigs doing a hold-up on the buffet! The theme restaurants are better for the service, food is as bad as in the self service. Once I had risotto with St Jacobs scallops , sorry was only 1 slice, about 1/5 of a scallop!! An other day we had Pintade.... the leg who has been warmed up in a microwave, it was hard as a stone!! Also pay attention to your drinks.... not included and very expensive if you want to enjoy cocktais, wine, etc .....I hoped to have a good reposing cruise, but it turned out in a horrible experence. I usually do not review cruises but this one cannot be ignored. My husband and I flew to Barcelona with 10 friends to take the MSC Meraviglia cruise that sailed 11-24-17. The itinerary for this cruise was great. But, sadly, that was the only thing that was great. The ship is new and quite beautiful but the acoustics are horrid. It is a very loud ship. The cabins appear roomy but that is because there is limited furniture (no chair), a very small closet with only a few thick wooden hangers that take up a lot of precious room and only two very very small drawers which are located in the small closet. I would suggest bringing hangers and limiting your clothes. Use the extra luggage space to bring water. Only water available in the dining room is what you bring in or buy at 3.25 a bottle. And forget about getting a cup of coffee after dinner. Not available in the dining room. You would not have time to drink it anyway. They start trying to get you to leave about an hour after arriving. Our first night, the Maitre 'D actually asked us to leave. Only time he talked to us the whole 8 day cruise. Our waiter was rude and unsociable. He was rolling his eyes while standing behind you taking your order. I guess he thought we would not see that. The food portions were very small and the quality was mediocre at best. This was the first cruise that I lost weight. There were several nights that we had to go to the buffet after dinner if it was open. The buffet was closed more often then it was open. They shut it down after breakfast for two hours and again from 4PM-7:30PM and again at about 10:00 PM. During those times all that is available is Pizza which was not very good. It's an Italian ship and the pizza was not very good. The poolside grill was cooking hamburgers but would not let you get one. They were wrapping and taking them to the buffet. By the time you got one, took it to the salad bar to put lettuce/tomato on it, it was cold. But, I only ate one because it was terrible meat. Disembarkations for the tours were total chaos. On our tour to Rome the bus turned around 1/2 hour into the trip to come back for 4 people they forgot. They got us back to the ship at tour end late and we missed our appointed dinner seating. They would not seat us and told us to go to the buffet. When we went up there all that was available was pizza. We paid for some fish and chips at a pub and they were tasteless. The buffet served exactly the same food day after day. There were a few desserts that were good but in general it was just mediocre food. The hot chocolate at the specialty shop was great but that is another paid for item. You have to reserve all shows. The cigarette smoke in the casino is terrible. The staff ranged from complacent to rude. I could go on. This was the worst cruise I have been on and I will never sail with MSC again. They began as a cargo hauler and apparently still think that's what they are doing because they are definitely not a cruise line. Read Less

This is the 9th cruise trip I had so far. First time with MSC. We tooked NCL, Royal Caribbean, Disney and Princess before this on. The MSC Meraviglia is a brand new ship with maiden voyage in early June, 2017. Though we are extremely disappointed, on the service. I will use the word, Horrible, to describe the experience. 1. Cabin is extremely small. Not enough space for storage even just two persons. Our friend with four family members had a same size cabin. Keep in mind, the crew ration of this new ship is 3.8-3.9. While the other cruise lines keeps crew ration around 2.8-3.0. 2. While they provide a new my MSC smart phone app for most of the information for on-boarder, the front desk always have long line even during the night around 11 pm or midnight. Reason for that is the there are so many issues passengers encountered. a) Over charge the drinking package which supposed to be free as part of the deal. b) No clear communication on the VIP photo access cards they offered so the passengers are confused. c) Food provided in the complementary restaurants tastes really bad. Fish, meat are all over-cooked. Much less variety in buffet for breakfast and lunch compare to other cruise lines. Main dining rooms are not enough so formal dinner has to be served in half of the buffet dining hall. d) In order to get a drink of featured coffee or cocktail, you have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes in the bar until to be served. 3. Front desk personnel are rude and not helpful even in the medical office. a) My kid got cut on the side of ankle, when we visit the medical office the male receptionist was really not patient to offer a band-aid. b) While we tried to get to bed around 11:30 pm on the first night we were on the ship, loud music/drum noise can be clearly heard from upper level lounge. When I called the front desk, they said they will call the bar to lower the volume first. We waited for 15 minutes, nothing changed. We called again, they said they would have someone stopping by to check. Waited another 15 minutes, called again, eventually the guy came and confirm the noise after 10 minutes and promised to change. Nothing happened for another 10 minutes. I had to go to the front desk and waiting on the line for another 10 minutes, the receptionist told me to wait until 1 am when lounge close!!! And promised me it was only for that night. Since it was 12:40 am, We waited and finally got sleep after 1 am. Next night, again, same thing happened!! I went to the front desk to complain and was told to stay in the room for someone to come check again, and confirmed, and asked me to wait for the lounge to be closed by 1 am !!!! We requested to see the manager of the front desk, REFUSED. ..... And eventually the lounge closed at 1:30 am. That was the second night. The third day in the morning, we waited on the long line for the front desk manager reported the issue. Eventually, told to stop by in the evening to provided us another room. Which is extremely small. The bed is queen-size and cannot fit a sofa in the room!!! And have to move back to our old room during the last night of the cruise. 4. The steward for the switch room in 8079 is not a honest person. we missing 90 Euros during the evening dinner-show time on the sea-day. The day before my wallet was missing and eventually found it behind the side table. The next day, the money in the inner side pocket of my bag I left in the room but not in the safe disappear... We reported to the front desk during the disembarkation. [The receptionist said why we hadn't report early?!?!?!] Well, so much to talk about disappointment. But have to giving a thumbs up on the shows it provided. High quality of the shows with top performers including the dancers, singers. Though, they are really overloaded. 5 nights a week and 3 shows each night for the same set of the performers. So, our advise - Stay away from MSC if you want to enjoy a cruise trip. Read Less

We were a party of 10 and we booked 5 staterooms with balcony 1 year in advance for the 50th wedding anniversary of my parents in law .once onboard they told us that my parents in law got another stateroom ,they got an upgrade. We asked of it was a balcony stateroom, and they said yes but it's on deck 10 instead of deck 9 where we all had our staterooms.they went to there (upgrade)stateroom and it was an ocean view stateroom .we went immediately to guest services and they told us there was a overbooking,and that the ship was fully booked.what was ment to be a week of happiness became a week of stress.we al paid €380 extra for a balcony stateroom.after a few days MSC suggested a refund of €300 and a 20% discount one a following cruise vallid within the year,REALLY?? After two days MSC raised the compensation to €600 with no further discussion.we had to accept this because otherwise we could end up with nothing.we accept but were not agreed with this settlement,we didn't accept the 20% discount. Overall experience of the ship was verry poor. The staff and crew was not friendly, with exception of our stateroom host and our waiters for dinner.the choice and variety off the food was also very poor. We had booked the beverage package Alegrissimo , but it always took a long time to getting our drinks. Every day there were people getting off the ship and others back on, so every day they held a safety drill (OK for me) but during the safety drill all services stopped ,you couldn't order a drink although the bartender was behind his bar . One day we've booked a shore excursion, this was total chaos, we booked a tour 'Rome on our on' but it was already noon as we arrived in Rome and we had to be back at 4 pm at the bus. the entertainment was every day the same ,the shows in the theatre were amateuristic. I choose this cruise at start because of the promise it was a family cruise boat and had a fantastic fun kids club. I was told that the cruise line had partnered with Lego and had refurbished their kids club locations with Lego theme. I was told by msc representatives that this applied to this cruise ship. I was told the kids club was fantastic and full of fun and plenty for them to do. Kids club was from 9am - 11pm and we could leave them there in good hands with a fantastic team who worked with children and made the club fun fun fun..... More like boring, unhappy and little to do. The staff were never pleasant when we dropped kids off. They had a routine timetable each day which was the same and quite regimented. The staff, especially the girl with blonde hair never smiled and there main language was French or Italian. They did not speak fluent English and I found them rude and never smiled. The kids hated the club. When it was movie time they put in a movie in the language which most children spoke and if that wasn't your own language you still had to sit through it and watch the movie. The kids could not do anything else. The room for the kids was not Lego themed nor big. It was small room and very little for them to do. I only managed to put kids in 2/3 times and that was only a couple of hours cause they complained it was so bad. The staff were not fun nor entertaining. Oh and the Xbox and wifi times - when it specified Lego none of that happened. They played sky-landers and nothing else. No Fifa but another game. The same every day. They had 1 tv, 1 play station console and 1 wii. It was awful. Terrible. So outside of kids club there was 1 small play area with a small pirate ship and slide. And then a water play area. That's it. Nothing else. Oh wait.... I forgot they had a games room which was nothing to bag about and needed money to play. The F1 formula virtual world was a racing car which kept breaking down and the 4 D cinema was a virtual 4 D ride which lasted 5 mins. Imagine that's it for 7 days....7 days!!! Awful!!! Kids had nothing to do . Nothing was fun. Never seen staff so unhappy to be there. Was totally mis-sold. I took 4 kids. Worse decision ever!! The disembarkment was a shambles aswell and I paid for transfers which was cheaper and easier if you take the taxi! All in all not recommended!! Read Less

I booked this cruise after my 1st choice was on MSC MELODY i had to cancel. MY travel agent was no help is choosing another one! GETTING TO SHIP I travelled by RYANAIR the day before so i could watch the CHRISTENING! The next day after breakfast i got a\ taxi to the ship which was quite a distance! EMBARKATION I arrived at the port at the port at 10.30am a lot before the time stated but others were there in 2 lines(no idea why or what for!!) We finally found out it was to drop off our bags. then to check-in where somehow i got PRIORITY as i had a classic card(which i later found was out of date!!) I boarded the ship as the cabins were no ready i had buffet lunch which was quite good. CABIN After lunch i looked at my cabin( i was not even shown where it was!!) It was an inside on deck 10. Quite large with a queen sized bed,mini bar,shower,safe, a\chair and pouffe and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. RESTAURANTS I had asked for 1st seating but was given 2nd so had to queue to change it. It was VILLA ROSSA restaurant. Apart from that there is only TEX MEX which is a small charge, and GALAXY DISCO but AT 24 EUROS AND ONLY A FRENCH MENU i did not bother!! there is more choice if you have a YACHT CLUB SUITE.the food was quite basic and not a great choice especially for desserts. No TAP WATER! so had to buy BOTTLED WATER despite it being in your cabin and in the buffet! PORTS OF CALL A good choice ROME(i did my own thing on a train into the city) MESSINA i did an excursion to mount ETNA which was well worth the money. MALTA i got a bus to POPEYE VILLAGE it was\a long way and only just made it to the ship in time.DUBROVNIK had to pay 10 euros for a shuttle bus only to be ordered off as some did not have their passports(why could they have not told us?) SHOWS These were very good and varied from PIRATES,MIME, PRODUCTION SHOW to a classical concert with memorable arias(i only knew one and lots of people walked out!!) IMPRESSION A lovely ship but sadly the smaller ships had more amenities like a golf course and extra charges for everything from bottled water,charge for a birthday cake! charge for coffee and ice cream. so sadly i do not think i will be doing another msc cruise!!!! A friend of mine said that MSC offers good trips through Europa. So we booked a expensive cruise with almoust all the packages needed. We were surprised, that a lot of drinks are not included in our package. We consumed a nice bottle of wine every night for dinner - of course not included in the price. Every day the made a advertisment about percentages for shoping, best offers for massage, excursions etc. - you can not sleep… you can not take a nap - than an advertising over the speaker in about 6 languages which is very disturbing. Poor educated and not motivated employees serves you during your stay on board. The cabin is nice, the room service is good. But all the employees have to make business by selling cigarettes, jewellery, clothes, purses, cosmetic articles etc. all over. And of course the allways offer you 30 to 40 % discount.... for example: a massage for the regular price for over 120 Euro is too expensive for the quality. The therapists are working without motivation, are tyred because of too much work and stop a 50 minutes massage after 40 minutes.... But in the end they try to sell you a cosmetic product or a next massage with a 30 % offer.... Make business - go to MSC - you can learn a lot...... not a very nice feeling, when you should spend more and more money. For sure we will not recomend a cruise with this company!!! Read Less

Pros: Cleanliness and space of cabin was good. Equipment at the gym is good. Cons: Food: The (paid for in advance but constantly stated as ‘complimentary’) restaurants and buffet all served low quality food. After a few days the limited variety became very boring. The restaurants had the appearance of quality but really it was the same low quality food from the buffet but done with a table cloth. Busyness vs Service: Breakfast in the Poseidna restaurant was an endurance test. Too many waiters each with one task who kept forgetting where they had been which meant that we were asked over and over if we wanted pastries, juice or coffee (even though we had asked for tea). Everyone is so keen to be doing something that every mouthful we took was being watched. Not a relaxing experience at all. Disembarkation and embarkation: Getting on and off the ship was slow and painful. While the restaurant had an overflow of staff, security was ridiculously understaffed. In particular getting back onto the ship was frustrating with service from security being slow, inconsistent in approach and generally very unhelpful. Up selling: staff I presume are on commission to get guests to eat at the pay extra restaurants. Most of this occurred outside of the paid in advance restaurants where they must have realised that the food was so average that people were likely to upgrade to eat some decent food. In room entertainment: although a tv in th room the selections is very limited. At the very least we expected access to Netflix or another subscription service even if it was a paid for view service. Zoe: Msc’s version of Alexa provided details of the paid for restaurants regardless of the question we asked. Guest services: I called guest services on a couple of occasions and each time was provided with incorrect information. The people answering the phone seem to give their best guess to an answer rather than saying they don’t know and will find out. Ship Maintenance: on the third day of the cruise we were advised that the balcony area would be cleaned. What they really meant was that for hours we would have a high pitch whining noise from a high pressure hose cleaning all the balconies. Gym very small: for the amount of people on board the gym was very small and, even with air conditioning, it was stuffy and hot particularly at peak periods. Anything to do with food or the pool area was beyond chaotic and yet there were other large areas which seemed to be constantly vacant and could have been put to better use (eg large smoking room and basketball court). Forced togetherness: as an introvert this cruise realised my worst fears .. the food halls were crushed and beyond chaotic, restaurants with tables where you were forced to sit with other guests, and pool and deck areas where the concept of personal space was completely unknown. This was our first cruise and will definitely be our last ... certainly with msc. The ship is new but the experience in the marketing material does not reflect the reality. In summary ..think 1970s holiday camp crossed with being at the Boxing Day sales (only with no bargains). Read Less

Previously used MSC about 7 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Treated with respect and pleasant dining all through the day. This cruise eas so different, majority of staff unsmiling and grudgingly helpful when unable to avoid assistance. Started badly with us (70 yrs of age) having to lug our luggage from the port entrance to our cabin, plenty of staff just watching pretending that they could not understand the language (English) Promises of some free laundry services never materialised and cabin attendant was just a cleaner who tidied and replaced towels twice daily. Breakfast was a chaotic scramble, as was lunch, the evening meal was OK at best with small 3 courses which was never hot and rather small, often just meat with a couple of small pieces of vegetable. Despite selecting not to have a service charge on my bill (I like to tip for good service to deserving individuals who were few) it took 3 visits to customer services to get a €140 service charge added to my bill without my consent to be removed. The vast majority of staff had little if any English. Almost all clients were Italian with a lot of small children, the Italians are very nice but mainly noisy and excitable. If you’re looking for a bit of luxury, some good quality service, friendly staff, great entertainment and decent value for money, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. The entertainment is a bunch of people singing, changing outfits and dancing, EVERY NIGHT. The Market Place cafe is chaos 20 hours per day. Absolute mayhem. The staff and cruisers have very little to non existent manors. Pushing, ignorance, shouting and being generally rude is commonplace. MSC over charge on everything. 8euros for a beer.... PLUS 15% service charge on top. Buses at ports are all 4x the price they are when you actually leave the ship. One thing we didn’t think of was the fact people leave and start their holidays at almost every port. Imagine all of those safety drills, suitcases and so on all over the place, every day! If you’re in you’re room you have a ten minute lecture in every language about the safety procedure, almost every day. The food.... is ok. That’s it. Lack of imagination and small portion sizes but in the lighthouse during the evening it’s pretty good. They will try and get you to pay for speciality restaurants and drinks packages at every opportunity. The room we had, 12261 with a balcony was great however. Very large and much better than other ships we had been on. Our cabin steward was nice. Room always tidy. The boat is pretty nice. The layout isn’t great though and means you’re up and down stairs a lot, the lifts are always full. It’s designed and fit out a bit cheesy rather than luxury but I guess people like that. The best area of the ship by far is the Masters of The Sea. The staff are funny, friendly and personal. They remember your name, your drink and are super efficient. The live music is good and the pub has the best vibe of anywhere on the ship. One thing we should say is we are British. We’ve sailed from Southampton a number of times with different companies but this cruise fell far short and we certainly wouldn’t be booking with MSC again. Today is the last day of our cruise, looking forward to getting home. MSC if you’re reading | Areas to improve Adult only areas - quiet areas (no party music blasting) Some manors. Some organisation to the Marketplace. Restocking of minibar as standard. Entertainment - A new manager. The entertainment is simply awful. The same thing every night and every day. Very poor and a very basic standard. Try a different cruise liner and see what they do. Food leftovers left down the hallways on the floor. Pretty disgusting and often left for hours. The ship was beautiful, especially the galleria area, but: - the beauty of the ship could have been enhanced with art work - the cruise experience could have been enhanced with more activities on offer - the library was a couple of shelves with a hand full of books - the food in the buffet was boring after a few days and (surprising given the ship's Italian pedigree) not of a good quality - it felt like it was all about selling and getting more money from the cruise passengers - the promo video gives the impression of a sophisticated cruise experience .....the reality was most of the time it felt like hell on earth...noisy rude passengers All in all one of the worst cruises we have been on! I traveled with my partner and my mother, both my mother and I have traveled with Royal Caribbean quite a few times so I have another company to base this experience with. We flew to Barcalona from Heathrow, and joined the MSC MERIVIGLIA, my partner who is a first time cruiser was taken back by the size of the ship, as she puts it “wow” and indeed, the ship is massive, and magnificent, and that’s where the thumbs up stop. Embarkation was actually smooth and quick, so once all paperwork was done, we entered the ship, no welcome aboard, no warm greetings, just on and that was it. The first appearance of the ships interior is quite good, and the arched LED roof in the main deck area is also impressive, but that soon fades. The cabin, clean, standard, I could bang on and on about everything, so here is a pros and cons list Pros Great itinerary - some beautiful cities. Embarkation quite quick. The food and service in the Main dining hall is great. Beds are comfy. Cons Only three swimming pools - all sea water. (Very salty) All deck chairs cleared away after about 19:00 making the decks empty. Large TV over main pool - never used for movies. No smoking rules very lax, some even smoked in the hot tubs. Lack of things to do of an evening, unless you like music, eating, and Italian humour. Large gangs of moody and loud teens roaming boat being bored. Lack of lifts for size of ship The artwork, and colours used are bland. Super cons The main buffet hall (the market place) Luke warm food, bland and the same food EVERY DAY. Main buffet hall over crowded, which didn’t help with people using tables to play board games due to being bored. Lack of drinks choice in main buffet hall, Morning you get juices, and water and coffee and tea, but after about 11:00am all you will get is water and coffee and tea, (unless you pay) Drinks are expensive (most cruises are) At around 21:00, the kids club decides to march the kids through the main promenade to kids music loudly. The cabin to balcony doors slam loudly by inconsiderate neighbours. No night lights in or around the toilet, so sometimes you have to put the lights on to see where your going. The showers are ok, but could be more powerful. We found out they only change the bedding once in 7 days. Lost use of balcony twice due to “maintainace” Serious lack of things to do of an evening. All shows were based on music. Mainly Italian or Spanish The magic show and hand silhouette show was very 1980’s and most humour Italian orintated Everything costs, even certain shows that are based on the boat. The layout of the foods in the market place buffet is a mess, so by the time you finally sit down your food is pretty cold. The staff in the market place will only attend your table if you are buying a drink. Staff will tend to either walk straight at you, or refuse to move if you need to get past. If you have special dietary needs, good luck, mum was celiac, The tv in the cabin had only two English speaking channels BBC news and National geographic. The layout of such a large ship was a mess. The entertainment area will bankrupt you, for example 30 mins bowling €30.00 €55.00 for an hour. 4D cinema adults €10.00 or €8.00 for kids So to sum up, what you thought was a good priced cruise will actually cost you more than with other cruise lines, Would I recommend or travel with MSC again, NO. even my partner who had never Sailed before claimed that she found the evenings boring and would not sail with MSC again.
