Docked away from city center in cargo port area but continuous free shuttle bus service was provided. Simply but, this was a big city port call, but had various historical buildings as New Zealand’s capital. Weather was cloudy with light rain/mist later in the day, so me merely took shuttle bus into city and rode cable car up to botanical gardens. Gardens were a disappointment since being late Summer there was very little flowering plants except in one area. We definitely would like to tour again in late Spring. Read Less

This was not on the original itinerary. The inclement weather at the Fjords forced the change. So Wellington replaced Port Chalmers/Dunedin. The ship docked around 6 p.m. on the third night. We rode the free shuttle bus into town. But most of the stores and attractions were closed. The next morning, we hiked up to Mount Victoria from the second shuttle stop. We also visited the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and walked along the waterfront. From the waterfront, we walked along Lambton Quay to do some shopping. We ended up at the Beehive where the first shuttle stop was. Read Less

Took shuttle to 2nd drop/pick up poit and went to the Museum... very comprehensvie, but map/plan atrocious, couldn't find my way around. I particularly wanted to learn about the aarival of the Maori people. I learnt something but it did not answer all my quesions. Enjoyed the walk back along the waterfront to the first shuttle pick up point, again savouring a reasonably priced cuo of coffee enroute! Read Less

We arrived on a public holiday 7am-2pm but everything was either closed or didn’t open until 10am. Very rushed.

Been here before. Did a bit of shopping and went back to the ship but if you haven't been to Wellington before it's a nice city for touring.
