So I sit here typing this with a heavy heart as I am a Disney fanatic and was so looking forward to our 7-day cruise with our 2 year old son who is also a huge Disney fan. We returned from our Western Caribbean cruise on Saturday and let's just say that I am very disappointed. I have heard nothing but good things from people who have cruised with Disney before and I have come to the realization now that Disney is resting on its laurels and not actively working on its tradition of great service.

We had an Deluxe Balcony stateroom (5124) and learned that the inside stateroom across the hall from us had been vacated as work needed to be done in the bathroom. For the *entire* duration of the cruie, we listened to hacksaws, power drills, etc coming from that room. Now, if it would have just been my husband and I, we could have vacated our room and hung out pool side. However, travelling with a toddler who requires a nap, we were forced to be in our room during the afternoon. Of course, all of that noise meant he woke up from his naps frequently and was pretty cranky throughout the duration of the cruise. He's typically a champ sleeper, but there is *no way* he could sleep through that noise (which is saying a lot, considering we live in downtown Chicago and sirens/traffic noise is the norm). We made several complaints to Guest Services (Alex, specifically) and received no resolution. As it is Disney, I would have thought something would be done as they are the kid specialists and should know that a 2 year old without a nap is not a fun thing for anyone. Unfortunately, we were told the work had to be done and they apologized for the inconvenience. Considering we paid $4k to listen to a construction zone, we were less than pleased. After *several* requests to speak to his boss or at the very least a contact person where we could lodge our complaint (or, as my husband put it - Let someone at Disney know they won't be getting another dime of our money and we're going back to Princess)... we received an envelope shoved under our door the morning of disembarktion with a business card in it. No note, nothing - just a card with the corporate guest services contact information.

As an aside, there was also a huge construction area blocked off pool-side where the movies are shown which went on throughout most of the cruise as well. I honestly felt like I was back at work, listening to the incessant construction that is going on outside my window on Wacker Drive. Also, another one of the pools were closed as water was pouring through the ceiling of the atrium outside of Lumiere's for our first two nights - with water spilling off the beautiful glass light hanging from above. While I understand that the bottom line is important (I work in the financial services industry), I think this ship in particular just need to be dry docked and get the work done on it rather than pocketing people's money - bad form, IMO Disney.
