Cabin: Junior Suite with Balcony

After previous plans to celebrate our 40th Anniversary fell through, this cruise fitted the time frame. We wanted something special so booked a Junior Suite. It turned to a nightmare when our booking was canceled a day later (no one explained how) and there were no other suites available. Thankfully our travel agent and RCI helped us snatch a Golden Junior Suite when it became available later that week.

Our taxi driver on the way to the cruise terminal told us it was school holidays in Singapore. Sure enough, lots of families, lots of kids. However the perks of a Golden Junior Suite really worked for us. Embarkation lunch in the Silver Dining area was very peaceful. Evening cocktails in the Gold lounge area also very relaxed. We saw very few other cruisers using the reserved area of the Solarium for suite occupants during the whole voyage. This space was under cover, which was just what we needed given our fair skin. The Sky Suite Concierge was very helpful with ininformation and helping make our anniversary night special.

Most passengers were Singaporean or South East Asians. We saw about a dozen Australians, no Americans or Germans , no Russians or Brits. Being mostly Singaporean, the kids were mostly well behaved and the adults courteous. The Solarium pool was in an adults only area. It wasn't busy, but at less than 3 foot deep it wasn't great for a swim. We tried the covered pool early and late when it wasn't very busy, also meeting our skin requirements.

Junior Suite with Balcony

Junior Suite is not much larger than a balcony room, but the extra space eliminates any cramped feeling. It was nicely appointed, very clean, lots of hanging space. Separate toilet from bathroom was a bonus. Our room attendant Cathy was very helpful without being in our faces.

Perhaps the best aspect was that we were 20 paces from the Gold Dining and Gold lounge, and just 2 floors above the Silver Dining, Silver lounge and Solarium - all places to escape the crowds. The 16th floor afforded us great views of Phuket, Singapore and Penang from our balcony. These suites are forward and high, but the gentle rocking in these calm waters only helped us sleep better.
