Sail Date: Aug 2022
Cabin: Balcony

This was our first cruise back with Princess since Covid. We have sailed many times with them before. Firstly let me say that the crew were great and boarding and disembarkation were a dream. (as usual) Our room was a balcony and was very comfortable although, as usual no sofa. The shower was tiny and allowed for no movement. Formalities to do with safety were quick and easy.

Whilst we had the Plus fare and it certainly made budgeting easy, the internet didn't work properly and was a waste of time. However ordering food and drinks from the phone was handy at busy times as the bars seemed to default to the app orders. The medallion worked well for opening doors and checking into the dining rooms.

On the subject of dining rooms, we had pre booked the same restaurant, table size and time for the entire cruise but had to wait in line with many people that just turned up. Surely they could have allocated us a table and we could have made our own way there on the second night, as we have done in the past. The main let down with this cruise was the food. Whilst it looked well presented, it mostly lacked flavour. Deserts, although they looked good were on the whole not worth the calories. The menu was very limited in choice and not many prime cuts of meat. The pizza lunch in Sabatini's was terrible. A spattering of topping on a base that was like a SAO biscuit. I won't ever bother again. The pizza at the grill was better. The burgers were great but again the choices were very limited to the past and no evening menu change. The Buffet was good for breakfast but the choices for lunch and dinner were limited and boring.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Clean, tidy well serviced and plenty of storage. Like most Princess balcony cabins, no sofa, just 1 chair and a small table. Shower the smallest I've ever had on any ship.

Port Reviews

Brisbane

The cruise terminal is great but the area is not a good look and out of the city with no transport links. It is a great place to start of leave a cruise as it offers on site parking. Taxi is about $40 from the airport. Not a good spot as a port of call.

Newcastle (Australia)

Newcastle port is in a working industrial harbour with many large ships coming and going throughout the day. This is interesting for some. There were shuttle buses that took passengers to the CBD and Newcastle is a small easy to walk city. It has many historical buildings and a revitalised shorefront precinct. It has a small town feel and you feel like you have stepped back in time a bit. The beaches are good but it wasn't really beach weather on our visit.
