I used Boton to sail from because Clarkston was not there. So disregard the embarkation port. We have been on 55 Ocean cruises and 5 River Boat cruises which gives us the ability to critique this cruise. We sailed from Clarkston, Wa to Portland, OR. on October 13, 2022. VERY DISAPPOINTED! American Cruise Lines has been in business since 1972 and you would have thought they just started doing this itinerary. They got off on the wrong start. No one from the cruise line was at the airport to greet us. They sent a small van seating 8 people to pick up al lwho might be coming in. The people didn't know who was coming or how many.. There were 24 people. They had to make 3 round trips to get us to the hotel. We came in for a pre cruise of Hells Canyon. Usually there would be a cocktail party or some greeting but there wasn't anything. Every staff member had only been on the ship 3 months or less except for one. We felt like we were on a training cruise. About 70 percent of the table cloths in the dining room were pressed. The others were taken directly from the dryer and put on the tables wrinkled. The food was just mediocre. On the last night they ran out of the wine we were drinking, the baked potato was not cooked through, ran out of sour cream, butter and no fixings. The tour director was a disaster. He was a complete control freak and not well liked. He was sent to a different ship the day before we left. This cruise was so disorganized and I blame it on lack of training. The staff was very nice but not trained. We were expecting a first class cruise because we paid top dollar and everything we had read this should have been top notch. If you are thinking of sailing on American rethink your choice. They only good thing I can say is the alcohol flowed freely and was top shelf.. Frank Chase played the piano and he was the best we have ever had.
