Had 7-previous AVALON river cruises. They lost my wife's suitcase for FOUR DAYS on their transfer from Paris to Saint Malo. On 2nd day, the tour guide told us they had video of the suitcase being loaded on the bus in Paris and it was probably stolen. On the 3rd day, told us that they think they found it and it should arrive by that evening...It didn't. On the evening of the 4th day, the suitcase was delivered to the ship via UPS. We lost touring and onboard dinners due to having to file a detailed theft report with the local French police. Had to wait two days until we could buy some clothes and toilet items at a mall. They no longer give you water bottles on the shore excursions...Also, no water available on the tour buses. No paper maps available during entire cruise and tours of the towns and cities visited. No paper daily schedules provided onboard. No longer give you one free complimentary-bar coupon. No chocolate on pillow. No itinerary booklet mailed to us before departure (used to be a nice souvenir). Onboard tour director was a rookie and could only offer limited information. 50% of the dining room staff was inexperienced. Had to walk long distances from the ship to the buses for land tours. No buffet offered for early morning final-day departures. AVALON is cutting corners to save $$$$ and there has been a large turnover of their experienced staff post-covid.
Balcony cabin was clean and comfortable, however half the time had to keep curtains drawn due to double-docking and docking where there was a large amount of pedestrian traffic.
