We chose Princess because we wanted to try a new line. Overall, this was a very nice cruise for my wife and me. We are in our late 50's, have sailed several other lines (16 cruises).
Princess has it spot on with the app. to assist you with boarding the ship. I set up everything through the app, I uploaded documents, selected embarkation time etc. I was fortunate that I checked the app every day to see when they would release the boarding times, I was able to get the 1130-1200 boarding time. We arrived at port via taxi at 1120 and we strolled right through the process, My wife had the app as well. We were aboard the Sky within 15 minutes of stepping out of the cab. It was by far the most stream line process ever. We made contact with 1 Princess employee, he looked at our docs and our phones and we strolled right on through.
Princess ships are beautiful, very nice color selections, very subdued colors, a lot of earth tones. We were in a Balcony Deluxe on Lido , our room was great. I like how they have the large closet area, great for grabbing clothes. I do wish I would have paid more and selected a mini-suite. We had the drink/wifi/gratuity package and it was great. We did not over indulge on drinks, cocktails were not strong so no worries there. The beer selection is abysmal if you like craft beers (I do), they offered nothing in the craft arena (what year is this??). I had a Fosters and a Guinness that was about it for beer. The wifi worked well, I had to bring my work computer and send a few emails, it worked fine. Dont pay for extra devices, the package includes 2 devices. We both logged on with our phones, I was able to log off the network on my phone and log on with my computer. When we were in port we lost connection a few times, no biggie.
LIdo Deck Cabin , very nice cabin. Worked very well for us, balcony was nice. I like the large closet for clothes, plenty of hangers. Decor was great, very nice. I would upgrade to a mini-suite next time, I looked in to a number of those cabins during cleaning, much bigger than Balc. deluxe.
We took a little self made excursion....we took a cab from the port to Red-Hook, then took the ferry to St. John, another cab to Trunk Bay. We love Trunk Bay and think it is by far the nicest beach in all of the Caribbean (it is a US Nat'l. park). We only stayed for 3 hours due to winds, sand was being blown on the beach. Water was a bit rough but I was able to snorkel. It cost us approx. $120 round trip for all the modes of transportation. We enjoyed the adventure. Yes, there are excursions for this beach from the cruise port for approx. the same amount, we just wanted to try this on our own. I highly recommend Trunk Bay.
