Chocolate martini nightcap in the Haven!

My husband and I love to cruise, we are loyal to NCL and we booked this last minute cruise to Bermuda on the Breakaway for our 35th wedding anniversary. We upgraded to the Penthouse Suite in the Haven; it was our very first Haven experience and it was spectacular! We cannot say a single bad thing about this cruise other than it wasn't long enough! We enjoyed every single minute of it but we especially loved the Haven bar each night. Before we'd go to dinner every single night, we'd first go to the Haven bar and enjoy several cocktails. We were treated so well; our names were remembered, our drink preferences were remembered, the staff just went out of their way to make sure all the little details were put in place and well executed. Our butler Willy was excellent and our cabin steward Barry were both fantastic as well. We loved coming back to our room late afternoon to find canapes, fresh baked goods, fruits and candies delivered for us to enjoy. The Haven dining room had THE BEST food on the ship, hands-down. Trust me when I say that...we are foodies and even have our own food vlog on FB called SeeMattEat and we did several videos of new foods/cocktails we tried on board.

We especially enjoyed our Haven bartender Christian Jade, who is from the Philippines. His level of hospitality was outstanding! He and his team in the Haven-Jillmer, El Marie, Javier, Petar, Marko (dang it I KNOW I'm forgetting one of the guys-I can see him in my mind but cannot remember his name!!!) meshed so well together and really worked together like a team should. When that Haven bar was busy, Christian and his team kept cranking cocktails out for everyone and they did it effortlessly (or at least it looked so to us!) One night Christian made a Smoked Old Fashion cocktail for my husband's food vlog and it was fantastic! The rest of his crew helped to create this video and made it so much fun for us!

Our oldest son who is 34 is currently in remission from brain cancer. He was diagnosed in 2018 and had a craniotomy to remove the tumor, followed by 6 weeks of daily radiation and chemo and then a full year of chemo. Our family wears gray bracelets that read "#SimpsonStrong...gray for brain matter and SimpsonStrong because Simpson is our last name. Towards the end of our cruise, I took off my bracelet and gave it to Christian and told him the story. He was so moved by it he invited us to a competition the next day-he was competing against two of his supervisors for most creative cocktail. Christian told us he was going to dedicate this drink to our son. That moved us so much!

King's Wharf

This was a last minute cruise for us. We chose it because of the value, because we've never been to New York before and we've never been to Bermuda before. Bermuda was sunny, warm and lovely. People were so nice and the excursions were great. The Royal Dockyard where our ship the Breakaway docked really didn't have much to offer as far as shopping, dining, bars, etc. We would have had to travel into Hamilton for that which we did not do but that was okay...we loved the ship so much that we didn't mind spending more time on the ship.
